We have known this pub for many years and its had its ups and downs!this time its fallen on its feet with Dan. We had an amazing Sunday roast, we had Turkey and beef, a great selection of vegetables and plenty of them lovey rich gravy, proper home made Yorkshire puddings and very attentive service. Will definitely be back.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review for us. We are really passionate about food and love creating new dishes for the menu, but there is nothing better than a Sunday lunch done the right way! It's always lovely to hear when guests have enjoyed their meal!

The Chequers Inn is hands down the best pub in the area since new management took over. The food is consistently excellent, whatever we’ve ordered. They retained this high quality through lockdown with the takeaway fish and chips. The service is always friendly and the investment in the pub has created a really nice atmosphere. Since we’ve lived here we always thought the area was lacking great pub food and fish and chips. The Chequers now meets both of these needs for us!

7 of us visited today 1st March for lunch, most had different meals. X2 dirty burgers, x2 roast beef, x1 lamb shank, 1 mac'n'cheese and x1 vegan. All freshly prepared, all delicious, all piping hot, including sides, everyone extremely happy. Multiple compliments to chef, most notably from our visitors older teenage children who stated 'the were the best home made burgers they had ever eaten and roast beef was exceptional'. Thank you to everyone for being attentive and to the team for being professional, but mostly for making our friends feel so welcome.
Can I thank the team personally for enabling me to be comfortable given my own difficulties. (Green leather chair)

The Pub was busy & had a nice warm & cosy ambience, & the Staff were welcoming & gave friendly & helpful service.
We ordered a bottle of wine which came quickly and with a jug of water without us asking, which is such a rarity these days!
However, we found it difficult to choose a Starter that appealed so did not have one. The Mains did not particularly appeal either but we chose Tandoori Salmon and Pheasant Schnitzel both of which were delicious and unusual. Sadly, our plates were cold and so by the last few mouthfuls our food was also cold too. We noted that many customers chose Burgers and although not for us, they looked very nice and there were a good number of varieties.
As we didn’t have any Starters We finished with tasty desserts and a coffee, sadly though there was no Espresso machine.
We wish the new Owner’s every success and hope that they develop and grow from this good start, may we suggest they advertise a bit as we live within a mile and did not even know they had reopened until someone told us?

Thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback. We have a great team and we really like to hear this being recognised.
It's a shame that you couldn't find a starter, we offer a large range of dishes inspired by international cuisine and are usually complimented on this. Great to hear that it meant that you had room for desserts, and that you enjoyed these. We are looking to get a coffee machine but these things don't come cheap and we have had to invest heavily in restoring the pub to it's former glory.
I see that you advised another member on our Trip Advisor page that the pub had re-opened in May, that was us, we're still here and hope to be for many more years!

Picked a table in the garden which is big and dog friendly but going to the bar to order was a bit ridiculous, they have a big table right in front of the bar which is not very big anyway and made it difficult to get in and order your food and drinks, service was very slow and they had ran out of vegetarian items, food was very good but very expensive I think £16 for a chicken burger and chips is a bit much especially as the jerk chicken inside was very small. The whole place had a look of being a bit unkempt as well with grotty toilets and the garden very untidy with rubbish and tables left uncleared for ages. Such a shame as in a lovely setting but just needs more attention to detail if they are going to charge that much for food

We have visited a few times since pubs re-opened but have chosen to sit outside and have always been more than happy with the service provided. The family have agreed that the vegan burgers and hot dogs have been sublime, fish and chips absolute perfection and roast dinners amazing!
Today was the first time we sat inside and we felt completely as ease with the Covid measures in place. The roast was absolutely fantastic, even the picky little one ate as much as she could fit in. I will definitely save room for the lemon panna cotta on our next visit!
There is a good sized free car park and the garden is brilliant in the summer - we were lucky enough to come over when there were bands playing in the on warmer days.

We were out celebrating a late 21st birthday due to covid and couldn’t have got much worse to be honest sat down at 1:00 on a table of 5 then got given 1 menu between us. We then asked about a gluten free food and only one waitress was able to help with this issue others just seamed obvious, there was not much available for GF people at all and what was gluten free they had ran out off not a great start. After ordering we waited about 2 hours for the food eventually it come out and still managed to get the GF meal wrong with it being served with a Yorkshire pudding and potatoes which by now would of contaminated the rest of the plate so had to be sent back then come out again wrong but did’t mentioned It as just couldn’t be asked for the hassle so she ended up eating what she could there could still be a risk of contamination as before leaving she noticed here tummy going funny.

Great food | Great service
We visited here on a Saturday evening for a quiet birthday dinner.
Despite the all the Covid restrictions being enforced on the hospitality sector, the staff at Chequers kept it relaxed, warm, friendly... all whilst socially distancing.
The food was impeccable.
Portions are generous and the meals were homely - chef is clearly using fantastic produce. Service was so friendly and knowledgeable.
The pub itself is lovely. Comfortable, decorated nicely and a good selection of drinks. Big car park too. We’ll be back!

My partner and I live locally to this pub, and we aren’t quite sure how we have only just discovered that they serve the most delicious Sunday roast around. A lovely little atmosphere, set within a beautiful village. The food portion was great, and both of our meats were cooked to perfection (lamb and beef). I made room for dessert, which was the chocolate orange ice cream. This was absolutely wonderful and went down a treat. There is also a nice size pub garden, which looks like in the summer months it would be great. We can’t wait to return again soon to try some more of the menu! Definitely a little hidden gem. Will be recommending to friends and family for sure.

Chequers have a large garden which gets the sun. There are plenty of spaced-out tables.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff.
It was the first week of opening for service outside following the easing of winter corona virus restrictions. Tables were disinfected after each set of customers.
They had a limited menu the day we went. We both selected fish and chips (£13.50 I think). The food came very quickly, was a generous portion size and was delicious. It was served in a cardboard takeaway box (I think for corona virus reasons).
Highly recommended and will definitely go back.

We had lunch at the Chequers last weekend for a friend's birthday. We were lucky enough to time it between rain bursts and sat out in the garden. Lovely setting, plenty of parking. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The menu is not at all what is on line and doesn't separate out starters / mains etc. So we ordered chicken wings, burger and a couple of the "dirty chips" on offer under the 'Snacks and sides' section - disco fries, I think. These turned out to be big enough to be considered main meals in themselves! They were smothered in a really tasty topping - lovely but too much to eat! The staff helpfully supplied a doggie bag so we finished the meal off for lunch the next day. At £100 for all four of us, with 3 rounds of drinks (beer and soft drinks), I consider that a bargain and very happy to recommend to friends. They do need to sort the menu out though :-)

One of a number of public houses who, due to Covid, have had to diversify to keep afloat. Danny Barton, the landlord of the Chequers Inn has indeed diversified by providing click and collect meals including fish and chips on Fridays and roast dinners on Sundays, in addition to providing other food services for those that cannot regularly go shopping.
Today, my wife and I decided to order a 3 course late lunch which comprised of prawn cocktail for starters with focaccia, roast beef and turkey accompanied by 5 vegetables, roast potatoes and a humungous yorkshire pudding served with lashings of gravy. And for dessert we had homemade lemon meringue with ice cream (although we have not eaten dessert yet, too full up). We agreed a time of 1630 for collection and Danny came out to the car to deliver.
We then put it in the oven to keep warm before plating up (not the ice cream obviously). The package even came with two chocolates to have with our coffee after.
My wife's comments "that was the best roast I have ever had".
Well done Danny and thankyou so much for such a wonderful meal.

I had lunch at The Chequers today. Easy to park, pleasant welcome - the left hand smaller bar is always my favourite; genuinely 'snug' and personal with its woodburner making the difference on a chilly day.
My colleague was a friend of many moons; relaxed and appreciative, the new look Chequers Inn has brought an interesting and well thought out menu. We enjoyed our food and the very personable service.
We use the pub from time to time for work orientated lunches with clients or suppliers and for some other special occasions. How nice to have this on our doorstep.
I've known The Chequers for some forty years. The investment in this new chapter of this pub's life is worthwhile - it's looking good and on the up.

My dad and I were happened upon this pub by chance on a quiet Monday afternoon by accident. It was like something out of the film “The Holiday”, the interior was cosy and beautiful, the Christmas decorations and candles were perfect, there is lots of stone and wooden beams and log fires to add to the atmosphere. The waitress who served us was so lovely, kind and helpful, we had the chicken burger in panko breadcrumbs with sweet chilli sauce, and cheeseburger which were both absolutely delicious and served with hand cut chips and purple cabbage slaw. We both said we didn’t want the meal to end and we will most certainly be coming back soon!

Your review has really made me smile! We love our little country pub, especially the cosy fire places in the winter (and the big garden in the summer).
Great to hear that your food and service were faultless.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

We enjoyed again a delicious Friday night treat of Fish and Chips Take-away from Dan at The Chequers. Portions are very substantial, batter on Cod very tasty and Chips better than anywhere else, together with mushy peas and home made tartare sauce. Food is excellently packed and brought to your car at the appointed time what more could you ask?
This Pub deserves every continued success when normality returns, they have been very innovative during Lockdowns and obviously worked very hard to improve and enhance the service they provide to the local community, and their lovely garden is just waiting for visitors to arrive when this allowed, we wish them well for the future, thanks Guys .
