Was here on 23rd December with a group of friends. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, they were just great. The service was quick, very attentive and friendly. The food was lovely and it's reasonably priced. They have a happy hour which lasts a few hours, on a Friday which is when we were there so was nice to... More

4 of us had lunch the Saturday before Christmas. Last time I visited was when it was under previous ownership and before the recent refurb. First off, I love the decor (inside & out) and much prefer the new layout. I ordered off the Specials menu - roast beef and the usual trimmings, which was lovely. Reasonably priced, looked good,... Visited on 7.12.16 with two friends for a girls Xmas night out. The place was tastefully decorated for Christmas, and we were greeted by a very friendly drinks waiter who suggested several cocktails to start with. The bramble cocktail was delicious! Our meal arrived beautifully presented and was without fault. Again a very nice waitress who made sure we had... More

We have started going to the AVA on Sunday's for a early tea about 5pm the last few weeks, having only come to live in Bangor. Now, it is good but it's not great. There is nothing bad you could say about it (except one waiter) but likewise it's not outstanding, just good. The food is okay, some things are... More

Hi Steffikittle, You seem to really not like one of our waiters, or that the couple of times you have dined with us he must have served you? Help us help you, can you give us a description of the waiter and why he was 'dreadful'? I have passed your review onto management as we cannot let one aspect of... More

Hadn't been in years. Place looks well and menu reads well but in reality it's standard pub fayre. Large portions on my prawn open but the dish was slightly let down by the amount of dressing the leaves were coated in. It was just far too much oil. I want a salad as it's slightly more healthy. I don't want... More

Hi HendrixNI, Thank you for your review, we try to reply to each one personally. We will be revisiting our all day food menu in January, can I ask what options you would like to see? It might be an idea going forward to serve the salad garnish separately, as some may prefer it with or without. I will pass... More

My wife and I decided to have lunch here - a spur of the moment decision. My wife had been a few times but I hadn't set foot in the Ava for over 25 years. The bar has recently been taken over and a major refurbishment completed and to be honest the wine bar décor would not be out of... More

The Ava Winebar has undergone a complete refurbishment and has been transformed into a classy, elegant and on trend wine bar. We are ideally situated on the corner of Main Street opposite Bangor bus station and the post office. We are open seven days a week for lunch, tapas, dinner and drinks. The future of The Ava is an exciting one, especially with a complete reboot of the drinks menu, now knows as 'The Drink Bible' with its quirky illustrations and finishing touches. The food menu has also been revamped and expanded upon, proving that even the pickiest of eaters can find something they will enjoy. For those who are looking something a little lighter a new bar menu has been introduced which features tapas and selected wines by the glass. The newly renovated spot is also expecting a new beer garden and a re-branding of the cellar bar.
