Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just back from a 3 night break with my husband and 2 mini schnauzers at this beautiful place. Room was large and clean. Comfortable beds, modern ensuing and cute little basket with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Breakfast with nice, plenty of choice and...tasty too. We also booked dinner each evening which was delicious especially the steak pie! We also sat in the bar area for a brew in the afternoon when we were back from walkies. Can honestly say that this is the most dog friendly place we have ever stayed at. There were biscuits in the room for the dogs upon arrival with a dog bowl and blanket if needed. The dogs came to eat with us in the dining area and they got fussed and treats from all the staff. The whole place is beautiful and the staff were amazing and a credit to the place, nothing was too much trouble and they were all lovely people. Thanks so much for looking after us so well. We will definitely be returning xxMore

Mwt up with friends in Brampton and they had booked here for dinner. The food was excellent and we all had something different. Pub was nicely decorated for Christmas, lovely log fire and dog friendly. The overall cost of the meals and drinks for 6...was unbelievablely good value. Would highly recommend and we will be backMore

Small town pub with amazing food and atmosphere!!! Owners Ruth and Andrew are so welcoming. We had the belly pork for starter and game casserole for main, food is absolutely beautiful! The casserole did not lack meat and the belly pork was by far the...tastiest I’ve ever had. Lovely evening, thank you.More

We stayed for 2 nights in this brilliant pub with our dog Daisy. Its incredibly dog friendly and the owners friendly dogs wandered around the bar area freely. The staff are incredible and could not do enough for us. The bedroom was large and clean...with tea, coffee and biscuits that were renewed each day. They even provided a dog blanket and bowl ( although we brought Daisys bed) it was a lovely gesture. The food was great and we ate there both nights. The pub had a lovely lively atmosphere with some live music on the Friday evening. We were lucky with the weather and walked a fair stretch of Haidrians wall which wasnt too far away. I will definitely stay here again.More

Nice food and friendly service. I had the chicken cobbler and husband had the game casserole - both were very tasty and we enjoyed the vegetables, which were a bit different. Service was very friendly and prompt even though the hotel was very busy.

Dangerous and disappointing.i ordered from their gluten free menu,it's not worth the paper it's written on after ordering the game casserole, I was told you won't get the dumpling it clearly states with a dumpling on the menu,so I changed and ordered the belly pork...starter from the GF menu, again I was told well that isn't the actual sauce that you will get with it because the sauce that you get with it contains gluten seriously on a GF menu main o had the GF stroganoff, within in 15mins of finishing my me I was vomiting, doubled over in pain and was burping terribly,I had clearly been given something with large amounts of gluten,I don't think this place realises the dangers of eating gluten when you are celiac .More

Dear loasbys We take allergens very seriously and explained quite clearly to you on ordering that the new menu had been printed incorrectly and that the game casserole would be served without the dumpling and the sauce on your pork would be changed for a...More

Day 2 of our Hadrian's Wall hike ended here, and we are glad it did. It was a great place to recharge. We took advantage of the b&b, and breakfast the following morning gave us the energy to keep going. Thank you!

After driving round looking for a rural pub to have lunch outside in the sunshine. All the pubs we did find to have outside seating finished serving at 2pm. We found the Howard arms. First impressions looked good, beautiful looking building the main bar has...a lovely cosy feeling. Having never been before we asked if there was anywhere to eat outside, the girl behind the bar said yes out the back of the building. When entering the court yard it looked lovely, only a few tables, and a covered area with two large settees and benches. It was nice to sit in the sunshine finally. The young girl took our drinks and food order within 5 minutes of sitting down. Whilst waiting for our order we noticed that the court yard was very dirty, cigarette butts littered the floor. The leather sofas were filthy and there was random stuff crammed everywhere! Our food arrived 30 minutes after we had ordered it. My partner had the steak pie and chips, I had the southern fried chicken burger with chips. My burger was very bland no flavour at all to it. My partners pie he said was ok, but has had better. The waitress never asked if we enjoyed our food we never saw her again after she had served the main meals. We had to go to the bar to settle our bill. I would understand if the pub was busy but it wasn’t! The food was not worth the price being charged. Service was poor.More

Had two excellent meals and a light lunch at the Howard Arms - great food and for ale drinkers don't miss the Thwaits IPA. It's a dog and walker friendly hotel with three resident dogs so you can be sure of a doggy welcome. Well...deserved 2022 Thwaits pub of the yearMore

Stopped off here for an overnight stay on our way to Scotland. Pleasant market town and all locals seemed very friendly and welcoming. Very relaxed dog friendly bar area and evening meal was good. Having driven for several hours we were obviously tired and looked...forward to an early night and comfortable sleep (we are in our late ‘60’s). Our room was immediately above the bar area and we knew we were in trouble when a band started up at around 8 pm. It is no exaggeration to say the room was shaking, bathroom tinkling and our dog was frightened. When it got to 10 pm I could stand it no more and telephoned downstairs. I was told it would finish at 11pm but she would ask them to turn it down (which didn’t happen). Explaining that I was not happy that we had been put in this room above a loud band and that we should at the least have been warned so that we could try and make alternative arrangements we were told to raise the issue in the morning with the owner. He was not to be seen so we had breakfast and settled the bill with the young morning staff. I expected an email apology from the hotel during the rest of our holiday but nothing was forthcoming so I sent an email to the hotel which was not acknowledged or acted upon. This is what I find most annoying. A shame because this could have been a good stay.More

We booked but as a party of 16 had arrived causing this super popular pub to be a little behind. We were treated very friendly and professionally by Hazel. It was worth the wait as the Ribeye was simply the best!!!! I am very fussy...when it comes to my Steak and our Ribeye was tender and beautifully cooked to the perfect Medium Rare. Our meal included a bottle of Merlot which was a good compliment to the meal. Our dessert consisted of Strawberry and Prosecco cheesecake, see the pictures. Highly recommended 👌More

Any hotel restaurant that is full on a Monday night in August has much to recommend it as a place to eat. This is comfort food from a Thwaites establishment in the middle of Brampton. We had the cobbler pie and the steak and ale...pie. The latter might have been improved further with the addition of kidneys to break-up the pulled beef. both pies are generous in size and come with mask or in some case chips and other vegetables although the vegetable portions aren't of the same size as the pies. My one grip - cold bitter. Serve larger cold but bitter at room temperature please.More
