It really is impossible to find the adequate and appropriate words to describe this venue to really give her the justice it so rightly deserves. We visited last Sunday for the first time with the hope that the glamour and the hype wouldn't be an...over exaggeration as so many venues are when it comes to Sunday lunch. WOW we were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in, we were instantly greeted by a joyous barrage of "hello's" and "good morning!" from the bartenders to the general manager. The welcome resembled a homecoming to your favorite crazy aunty from the past; Warm, genuine & in a noticeable, way... safe. We opted to sit at the bar as we were 15 minutes early for our 12:30 reservation. This was by far the best mistake we could make. Having drank several Bloody Mary's, Moira's & Maria's the mixologists were engaging, fun, and extremely knowledgably. We were also served water in iced champagne flutes from a vintage teapot drenched in intoxicating glitter. No surprise that a venue this glamourous would serve water that looks like its been blessed by a convent of drag queens. Alas, now an hour late for our reservation (at no point were we rushed to the table) we felt it time to ingest some food and soak up the several rounds at the bar. Now, to point out that as a restaurant General Manager myself, I am often so disappointed with roasts. I was genuinely impressed with how good this was! My friend had the beef and I the Lamb. The meat was tender, the veg hot and the Yorkshire fluffy! You can really taste the pride from the chef and it was appreciated by us both. Sunday roast suddenly and for the first time in a long time, didn't feel like a wild inconvenient for this brigade. We further indulged in Sticky Toffee Pudding and washed it down with a dessert wine. Yum Yum Yum!!! Now bursting at the seems and under the threat of having to undo my top jeans button we retreated back to the bar for infused cognac over ice (bar tenders choice - delicious) and several espresso martini's. All in all, I find in todays climate its either good food or good service in restaurants and you really have to make a choice. The Rock & Rose not only does both but they excel! They really should feel incredibly proud of everything they do! I worry this hidden gem wont stay hidden for long and we may have to fight for our spot at the bar. This restaurant is an absolute must for any one with a thirst for delicious well crafted drinks, a hunger for mouthwatering food and a heart for hospitality displayed at its best!!! We will be back!
