Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sun Inn has been my local for the last few years having stumbled across it when visiting the theatre down the road. In previous visits staff were very warm and friendly and chatty- evidently this is now no longer the case. Ordered a Guinness and...a lager and the bar staff looked clueless on how to pour it properly. Evidently a lack of training or enthusiasm in providing a service. Unfortunately there isn’t a friendly atmosphere anymore and whilst the food is nice the pub just feels different. My visits have upped the last month and a half due to work commute circumstances so I feel I’ve seen it at all times of the week. Moderately busy on Thursdays and Fridays and quite busy on Saturdays. Used to be an older bartender or manager there who was very attentive and took an interest in having a genuine conversation and was very sincere with his service. Evidently standards have slipped considerably of late. Probably will come back in passing for a pint after work but hopefully the cluelessness and terrible attitude improves. This goes also for an older blonde lady who began serving at the bar im assuming is a manager or one of the owners… and completely messed up an order and seemed to be making excuses that they don’t have the staff that night-… which I don’t know how that excuses their mistake with the order ??? Whilst standing at the bar I watched one of the bar staff take an order and clearly didn’t understand what was said (as i believe English is not his first language- which isn’t his fault but one would think the management would ensure their staff can communicate with customers as it’s clearly a necessity for the job)… He took the order and then moved on to another customer and completely ignoring the first customer he took an order from! Shocking!! Decor of the pub is all rugby memorabilia and is really great to walk around, everywhere you look it is something different. Menu is very varied with lots of small plate options and a great homemade beef chilli (worth a try!) I’ve been in and out of this pub once a week to once every two weeks in the last 2-4 months and everytime my experience was different positively and negatively. Evidently they are struggling like most in the hospitality industry with rising running costs and labour costs. This clearly isn’t a chain pub like the S&L down the road or others in the Richmond area and with that comes negatives and positives. Ultimately it’s a well decorated, clean and great tasting food and pints. Service of late let’s it down, I plan to come in at the next match of the 6 nations so hopefully service will be on the ball for then.More

Clearly not the A team tonight given minimal eye contact at the bar, no acknowledgement I was waiting, and then when my turn came up, he had to ask me whether I was waiting despite being there for 2 or 3 minutes. At the same...time, no please or thanks mentioned and despite holding a menu to order food, and the bar staff saw me waiting to do this, when I eventually got served, I was told the kitchen didn't open until 6pm - it was 4 minutes to 6!! Trouble is the Fullers Pride is really good so I will probably be going in again, but it will be reluctantly!!More

This is my longstanding rugby pub. Last night I visited for another purpose; pre-theatre. Guess what? It was just as good - although would have been perfect if a few bar snacks had been available.

Simply the best Pub in Richmond, great Landlords, Managers & Staff, also Dog Friendly with free treats at the bar! Just like pubs used to be, I go here most match days but also during quieter times where I can relax with the my paper,...steak pie & a pint of ESB! though be warned nincompoops are not tolerated, any ungentlemanly conduct is dealt with swiftly & firmly, no Riff-Raff!More

Massive dump. Lots of places better in Richmond. Food cheap tasting, I got the burger. Beer selection, very average. Did I mention the awful smell? Staff are ok.

A really cozy atmosphere with lots of nooks and crannies. Stuffed full of rugby memorabilia, even on the ceiling, it's a great experience. They were showing the Rugby whilst we were here and it seems to have genuine rugby fans here who were watching the...match intently. I really enjoyed the experience! Tucked away off the main high street, you could easily miss this place - it's signposted from the high street and you have to go down a narrow alley to get to it - so you could easily overlook it!More

Went to Richmond to watch Bedford play Richmond, first away game for rugby and visited the sun inn before the game for a drunk and some food. The pub was excellent, friendly and the staff were great. We ordered drinks then some food. We had...burgers with chips, the burgers were amazing filling and proper with bacon and cheese, filled me up a treat washed down with London pride. The atmosphere was brilliant in the pub that after the game we went back for more before the journey home, this is a pub I will be visiting again if I am in the area, I recommend a visitMore

Revisited this pub for the first time in a while. Last time I was here I was horrified to find football on TV prioritised over rugby in Richmond's oldest rugby pub. This time the imbalance was addressed - rugby on all screens. Staff were friendly...and helpful. Beer was in fine condition. I just wonder whether there has been a change of management? The pub seemed a whole lot better than I remember it.More

The Sun Inn definitely isn't the trendiest pub in Richmond, but along with the Britannia it is my favourite. Old fashion, cozy rugby pub. Hearty and unpretentious food at very reasonable prices for the area. Chilli con carne and the weekly curry night both tasty...and great value. Plenty of cool rugby memorabilia & I love watching sports in here - staff always v. friendly. Glad they are sticking to their roots rather than trying to become a gin/wine bar or fancy gastropub like several other places in the areaMore

Very atmospheric Richmond pub with terrific array of Rugby memorabilia - like a real pub should be - however it's beginning to show its age which is detracting from how good it should and could be. Just needs a bit of TLC and a small...investment to bring it back to its best - hopefully they will pick up the paceMore

We arrived before the rush after Big Game 12 on 28 December and the pub was half full. Two teenagers in the group (both over 5' 10") needed to use the loo and their path was immediately blocked by a most unwelcoming and unpleasant woman...who spat out that children were not allowed in the pub. Charming! Even less charming when it was explained that the boys were desperate. People, staff, employees there .... just leave the hospitality business if that is how you welcome customers.More
