Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As a group of friends, we booked here for dinner whilst staying in the area. We were met by a very enthusiastic and friendly member of staff who showed us to our table and, when we were ready, took our order. The lighting was, to...say the least, very subdued and may have posed an issue to anyone with a visual impairment (e.g. cataracts). It may have been taking "atmosphere" a little to far! The food arrived in a reasonable time and was tasty and plentiful (you are unlikely to leave there hungry!). There is an "optional" 10% service charge, something of which I do not approve and would put me off from returning as it puts the customer in an embarrassing position if they do not wish to pay it. Happy to leave a tip (and would have done in this case) but the onus should not be put on the customer to opt out.More

All the food was homemade ans tasted great. There was a variety of food to try including some things that were different to the classics. The seafood pancakes were lovely and would recommend these. A classic country pub and it was great to sit near...the log fire.More

Whilst the food was reasonably good we booked the venue to experience their signature dish which is advertised on their we website as steak stone cooked at your table. This apparently has not been on offer for months. . . . Could of had a...plate served steak anywhere. Not withstanding this the ambience was destroyed by the sound of work being carried out in restaurant (7.30 pm) and the bar was awash with dirty glasses. Would not recommend or anticipate returning MFTMore

Large facility nicely furnished, a lovely ambience fine service and a play area next to a stream. The starter chicken liver pâté a was superbly presented and very tasty. Not critical but the lamb was not anything special to write home about and the let...down was a flat Yorkshire puddings which most of us left unfinished and the mashed potato was inconsistent. Overall it would not prevent another visit and looking forward to trying other dish’s.More

We were glamping nearby and booked a meal here. The food was delicious and there was a wide choice. It’s a big pub but laid out so you feel it’s more intimate. Nice wine and good hand pull beer (Wainright). The portions are all big...too. Good value and really enjoyed it.More

Nice people, dreadful poor quality food. Quite disgusting ! 🙁 Burger was preprocessed mush, mince and dumplings were so hard they were inedible.

Having visited and enjoyed the hospitality, and food at the Blacksmiths numerous times as part of a local Clay Pigeon Club. I booked for Sunday lunch with my family. It did not disappoint, the friendly Freya was there to greet us & show us to...our table when we arrived. Freya & all the staff are extremely friendly welcoming & attentive. The quality of the food is second to none, freshly prepared and very well cooked. I would recommend the Blacksmiths without hesitation and certainly worth driving the 30+ miles I have to do to get there..More
