pending completion of building works, this restaurant appears to be a burger van now. I had a half-pounder with onions, and, to be fair to them, it wasn't bad. Staff nice and friendly as ever. Bear with them till they re-open, I'm sure it'll be...worth the wait.More

Let’s be honest…it’s a burger van selling overpriced chips, burgers and fried egg and bacon…..£10.40. For 2 ice lollies an ice cream and a tin of fizzy drink….no COVID practice I could see from the staff…not much food hygiene either to be fair….do your a...favour go to the chippy 0.5 miles in the car….absolutely lovelyMore

Lovely location down by the water but operating out of a caravan at the moment while building work on a new complex grinds on - seems to have been going on for a very long time, and it's not an attractive addition to the beach...scene at the moment. Fingers crossed that the project will be completed soon, but never got to check out what's on offer as opening hours seemed a little erratic when we visited out of peak season.More

Visited here a few days ago, I ordered a sausage baguette and I was shocked at the quality of the sausages. They seemed that of a really cheap sausage, they had a mash potato consistency and not a very good look of quality either. The...price I paid was £3 I would have rather paid slightly more for a better quality sausage, I’d hate to think what the pork content was. My partner ordered a burger, I think this was the cheapest thinest burger he’d ever had, apart from that, it was all the fatty hard bits of gristle that finished him off! I asked for a latte, that they advertised, i think they thought I wouldn’t recognised that they gave me a normal coffee and not a latte like I had ordered. Please don’t advertise lattes if you don’t actually serve them. It might be more helpful to let the customer know that you don’t have any, instead of just serving up a watery disgusting normal coffee! Perhaps the lack in quality and the cheaper food item option is in preparation on saving funds to pay for the new build that’s happening, but this lack of food quality has defiantly put us off visiting in the future. Such a shame as the kids loved their ice cream,More

On January 1st my wife and I went out looking for some where to have a coffee.Where ever we went normal places were closed.I knew of one place that was sure to be open.Bateman's cafe. Brightlingsea. Sure enough not only were they open it was...packed(As usual). The staff were so efficient and pleasant it didn't take long to get our coffee and scone and cream which was delicious. The cooked food coming out of the kitchen also looked very appetising. The prices were also very reasonable. This place is unique in that it has very little indoor seating.Outdoor seating has perspex round to protect from the wind. This place opens no matter what the weather and you have to dress for the weather. You can be sure of a welcome and as such very popular. I have heard that the only day they close is Christmas day. Well worth a visit. It is a pity there are not more like them.More

Had a regular cooked English breakfast there after an early start birdwatching just along the track from the cafe. It was amazing value, under £5 and as well as the expected options there was fried bread and bread and butter and a mug of tea....It was so pleasant and friendly we went back in the afternoon before leaving Brightlingsea and had another cuppa and a chunk of bread pudding for £2.50. Amazing and proper , decent mug of tea and bread pudding like my mum used to make to boot! I understand it may be refurbished soon so go now and I hope the service, prices and quality don't change much! DaveMore

My husband and I visited yesterday - what a wonderful place to enjoy their delicious food. I had the bacon and brie panini which was so reasonable priced. It came up quickly and hot. Tea and coffee reasonably priced too. Service was quick with a...smile. 100 per cent recommend you try.More

Taking a walk along the water front at Brightlingsea, we came upon Batemans. It was certainly coffee time and the smell of bacon was irresistible. Although October it was a delightful day and we were able to sit outside and take in the glorious view....We all ordered a form of breakfast snack, and teas and coffees. Service was just fine, the food came quickly and it was tasty. It was as you would expect from an English sea side cafe. A very varied menu and fairly priced. Well done.More

A great assortment of breakfast, whether you are a big eater or just want something light. Bacon sandwiches are fantastic. Scones are always lovely and fresh with a choice of jams.

Service and food were excellent the ice cream seller was interested in where we were from, he told us they didn't get a lot of tourism from other countries around here very often.
