my husband and I and our dog Harvey stayed at a cottage just down the road from the pub and we came to the railway inn a couple of times for meals and my husband had been in here just before xmas with his brothers as they were camping just down the road , he couldn't wait to take me to the railway inn and like him I was not disappointed. the staff are lovely and so helpful. when we are in Norfolk again we will definately be back and with Harvey xxx

Warm welcome during storm Ciara. After the pub we booked had a power cut we found our way to the Railway inn. Horrible weather outside we were given a warm table next to the radiator which was very welcome. Started lunch with chicken Thai cakes which were very nice, followed by the carvery I had roast beef. Everything was hot and well cooked. Dessert was chocolate sundae yummy. All paired with a lovely Rumanian red wine. Shame about the leak in the ceiling it the rain was torrential so it wasn’t surprising but it didn’t interfere with us where we were sitting.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here today, even though the excellent carvery is no longer available due to the corona virus restrictions in place. The off the menu roast did not disappoint.
The staff are very helpful and accommodating, my little boy is very fussy and wanted something that wasn’t on the menu but the young girl who served us said it wouldn’t be a problem.
The chocolate gateaux desert was also a hit with the whole family.

When we got to the pub asked for a table outside the manager said help yourself there’s plenty of tables a nice friendly greeting wouldn’t of gone a miss, once sat at a table which was minging spilt food drink fag ash etc….so asked it to be wiped clean eventually was but with some effort. The food was ok….but ordered 5 white bait for starters 4 came after around 20 minutes then the other 5 minutes later which isn’t great as we didn’t start ours until the other arrived! Then once main meal arrived we had to ask for cutlery a number of times plus condiments had to be asked for but didn’t bring what we asked for!!!!! Spent £140 plus with drinks & left a tip but definitely would not go back again.

If you have no where else to go, in all of Norfolk fine. I think I have had better dinners at wakes.
We were one of very few tables (on a Friday night) and were not allowed into the bar area to finish off our wine as the number of people in there exceeded their allowance, however, minute after minute new patrons kept walking in without question.
The food wasn’t great at all, quite a greasy fish and the chicken curry was questionable even as a hospital meal - beige to say the least.
The waitress didn’t grasp the concept of wearing a mask properly even though I feel like this is quite simple. Lots of chin protection going on, certainly not mouth and nose. Doesn’t help when she was coughing about everywhere without covering her mouth even with her hand. Corona here I come!!
All in all, we were left in a room dining totally alone and even told we were not allowed into the main seating area and had to use the disabled toilet just to be kept away.
Lovely evening if you like dining alone in total silence with bad food..

In an area where a lot of pubs have got above themselves we found this gem! Excellent home cooked food. We had mussels, game casserole, slow cooked pork & delicious puddings. Service was 1st class despite not many staff & real ale was perfect. To cap it all they had extended their "Norfolk Restaurant week menu" to the end of November, which meant we had 3 courses for £20!

Were staying for a couple of nights on a local camp site so booked in for 2 nights evening meals. Food was great and plenty of it. Goats Cheese starter was lovely as was the Breaded Mushrooms. The Fish and Chips were lovely, the fish especially, large, moist all in all a great piece of fish, best had in a while. Scampi was delicious. The second night Chicken Curry was again delicious and the Fish Pie was the best in a long time, really good meaty pieces of fish and very tasty finished with lovely cheesy mash potato. The Sticky Toffee Pudding finished things off nicely. The service was prompt and efficient and the staff polite and friendly. A really good pub restaurant and would highly recommend. Will make sure we book again when next in the area.

Took a weeks self catering holiday based in Docking and spent the first 5 days trawling the area visiting the so called 'must eat at' pubs. On day six we walked the few hundred yards to the Railway, had a great meal. Fresh, honest, well cooked food at a reasonable price, service was friendly and attentive, couldn't be faulted. Enjoyed it so much we immediately booked for the next night. Wished we'd visited earlier. If you want a good meal at a good price and good service look no further than Caroline and her team at the Railway.

We were a family group, 14 in all, Caroline was so helpful fitting us all in for our 2 night stay. All the accommodation was so clean and comfortable. All the staff, Maria, Matt, Jazz and Molly, front of house could not do enough for us. Don’t know how the kitchen staff coped with us all at breakfast, 8 adults and 6 children taking over the conservatory. We can’t praise them enough. The little ones were so thrilled when Caroline let them have a look at her baby chickens. Thank you all for making our family break so memorable. Be warned, we will be back.

I had my first visit to the Railway Inn last night with my family for dinner. I booked after reading some very favourable reviews so thought I would give it a try. I must say that I absolutely made the right decision. Firstly the service was impeccable, especially Polly who was so efficient and attentive. The food was fabulous, all served hot and tasty and the presentation was first class. I had the pork belly, my son had the spare ribs and my wife the sea bass. All the food was really delicious. Desserts were yummy too. Also having a kids menu was a boys. Small things like asking me if I wanted extra gravy was much appreciated. I will definitely be returning next time I return to Docking. A job well done to all the staff and chefs. Thanks so much for making our last day in Norfolk so memorable.

We visited for the 1st time (3 families 10 of us) and had a great night with really good food. We sat in the restaurant part and the menu had lots of choice at good prices. I had the large fish and chips which was excellent, 2 had steaks which were cooked perfectly and the rest was great m. Caroline our waitress was very pleasant and attentive despite the restaurant being full. We will definitely return.

Trying to find good restaurants is often a difficult task and always a bit of a gamble especially coastal areas where a lot of 'pizza' and fish and chips served, which of course has its place . However, this little 'gem' ticked all the boxes. Exellent food with a chef knows how to season and turn classics into a gourmet delight. So often food is described on the menu in a way to make your mouth water but fails to do that and arrives either bland, overseasoned or mushy vegetables ( or no veg at all) but in this case it was the opposite and The Railway Inn exceeded all expectations. In addition it is excellent value for money with special 2 and 3 course fixed price menus. Staff were friendly, courteous and attentive and we felt valued as a customers. We look forward to returning.

Visited just after COVID-19 lockdown was eased, so very cautious. However, The Railway has everything down to a tee. Every letter of the rules have been followed and we felt reassured. Excellent, very friendly service. All food in our party was very good - as a coeliac it was nice to have options. There isn't a separate menu but the chef will mark off which dishes are (or can be altered) gluten free.

As a 3 generation family, including a 4 year old, we were warmly welcomed as a drop in on Tuesday evening. Very quick and friendly service, eaten in the conservatory, watching the pouring rain. Pizza was amazing, best pizza I have had in very long time and the crunchy chicken burger was very tasty. All round made to feel welcome and was good price.

We were staying in this lovely village for a week and having read the reviews, we decided we go there on our first evening. We were herded into a corner of the conservatory and awaited the menus. After 10 minutes still no menus, so I went to ask and after another 5 minutes still nothing. A staff member came through and I asked again, eventually some tatty pieces of paper were left on our table and we realised theses were the menus. We had to ask to place an order for drinks and then each time the same staff member came through, she would literally shout across to see if our drinks had arrived yet. Same happened with ordering food.
The conservatory area was very dirty, with cobwebs and dead flies in the corners and a layer of dust across the windowsills and heaters. When our meals finally arrived they were average at best, and did not match the hefty bill that arrived very promptly after eating. Maybe we caught this place on a bad evening, but I certainly wouldn't return or recommend.
