Had a magnificent Roast Beef Sunday lunch today. Beef was cooked to perfection, good selection of fresh seasonal vegetables well presented and tasty. Pub and restaurant area clean and plenty of light and space. Staff were cheerful, helpful and courteous, Would highly recommend this pub to those who like a pub atmosphere to dine in. Proper pub food.

We haven’t really been out to eat since the first lock down, as things have eased have to admit to having an occasional McDonald’s but not much else. Made the decision to celebrate a birthday by going to our walking distance local, which is under new owners and we’ve had a couple of Sunday roast takeaways from that were amazing. It was brilliant, all the covid rules are adhered to, we felt safe, comfortable and were able to relax. We had steak and a burger, both meals presented beautifully and the homemade onion rings were delicious. The only downside was we were too full for desert! It was a lovely evening and we look forward to going again.

Was really looking for a roast dinner on a warm Sunday in May, most places were all booked up but managed to find this place who fit us in. It was a pretty standard roast dinner, good veg, good meat and large Yorkshire puddings. But what set this place apart was having a vegan option of Seitan, which really cheered the vegan party member who was under the assumption of only getting a roast dinner sans meat.

What a terrible meal and one terrible waitress! Do not eat here! Starter of baked Camembert came with white bread, the cheapest supermarket brand. Not toasted just slung on the plate. Disgusting! Fish pie and veg what a mess! Fish and chips ok Ham Egg and chips yuk! Waited over an hour and spoke to waitress to ask how much longer our main meal would be. Beating in mind we were the only people in the place to start, her reply was you can see how busy we are. One other table! Who got their meal before us. She def needed customer service lessons. The other waitress was very apologetic and tried hard to make up for it. But it was too late and meal was rubbish. Never go there!

We visited for lunch, having walked down from a local campsite. The building was attractive and the decor typically english pub. We were welcomed by the staff and made to feel at home immediately. We chose our own table, indoors as there was a party which had taken over the majority of the outside space. The menu was typical English pub lunch fare, with a standard menu and specials board to choose from and we both chose the lemon chicken with boiled potatoes and salad. The food was of a really good quality and the quantity more than sufficient. We didn’t sample the beers, but there appeared to be a reasonable choice. The soft drinks were not ridiculously priced, which can sometimes be the case. We enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend the pub.

Ordered a Roast Beef & Roast Pork Sunday lunch and Chocolate Brownie desserts. Absolutely beautiful, the roast beef was pink, the potatoes crispy and gravy to die for! My partner said his pork was excellent and even had some cracklin. The chocolate brownie was rich and delicious with sweet strawberries and marshmallows. Please support our local pub with new owners, they are doing a fantastic job. Can’t wait to go there for a meal once things become normal again.

The three of us went to the Horse & Groom for lunch & as we’re older we chose the OAP’s £12 for two courses menu (on Tuesday & Thursday lunchtime). One had the Beef Casserole with mash & veg, his feedback ‘THE best Beef Casserole I’ve ever had’. The other two had Hunter’s Chicken (very moist & also delicious) Skinny Fries & salad. We all three had the chocolate orange cheesecake, also delicious. Two of us had a pot of tea each with our meal & to our delight it arrived in a proper, stable, decent sized tea pot, providing ample cups of tea. (Tiny, why bother sized tea pots is a pet peeve of mine) All of the food was freshly cooked & certainly worth every penny. Not a morsel was left. The staff were exceptional, friendly, welcoming, amendable, helpful & professional. We will be back & highly recommend visiting & experience for yourself.

Called in fairly late lunch time towards the end of the kitchen serving but absolutely nothing was to much trouble My wife ordered the salt and pepper squid that was on the specials board not realising it was a starter but the waitress immediately offered it as a main I ordered the duck breast with the “ lighthouse” potato’s A pint of Woodforde’s Werry and a pint of Estralla to accompany our food The dog was made a big fuss of and the whole atmosphere with in the pub was very welcoming. The landlady and the barmaid were so friendly it was like we were regulars. The food came out in good time and was very obviously fresh cooked The “ lighthouse “ potato’s were in a creamy sauce topped with Parmesan cheese the green beans and broccoli were cooked to perfection and the duck breast was huge but again beautifully cooked. My wife’s squid and the salad that accompanied was some of the best she has tasted. The mains were so filling that enticing as the dessert menu was we passed on them but will return another day to sample. In summary as the title says this pub is every thing a modern English pub should be with a great landlady and super staff We will return

After a morning skydiving we needed somewhere for 10 people including children to have lunch. The Horse and Groom at Wrentham was such a good choice. They had a large outdoor marquee where we could all sit together and a lovely fenced off childrens play area. The menu catered for all tastes and included Sunday roasts, a childrens menu and a specials board as well. The food was served with a smile and was hot and delicious and considering there were ten of us we didnt have to wait very long at all for our food. The hosts and all the staff were very friendly and i would highly recommend it.

Had Sunday lunch here yesterday. I’m quite picky about eating Sunday roasts out as most establishments under cook the roasts or have mushy begs. No so the Horse and Groom. Crispy roast potatoes lovely fresh veg and lots of it. I had pork sweet and tender with great crackling and my wife h as d beef beautiful. Would I come here again most certainly. 5 stars

What a lovely Christmas lunch our Coffee morning group had today. Beautiful food, well cooked and presented by attentive, friendly staff, with a lovely atmosphere in the pub. There were 34 of us having lunch - a large group for them to cope with - but they were not phased by the size of group and it was a pleasure to eat at the Horse and Groom. We would certainly return. I hope everyone at the Horse and Groom has a lovely Christmas!

We loved our visit to the Horse and Groom earlier today. We parked up before the pub had opened (having called them earlier in the week) to do a 10km loop to Covehithe beach and surrounds. Perfect location to stop rather than just parking at the beach! We returned from our walk to chat to the lovely staff and have lunch. The landlady (whose name I didn't get) and Anne-Marie were just so friendly and it was a great experience. We were tempeted by the luxurious baked cambert, and then sausages & mash, followed by the chocolate brownie - great portions, delicious food. The staff had plenty of treats for our labrador too. Would happily return and highly recommend!

We won a meal for two on a charity raffle. We were made very welcome and the food marvellous. We will certainly go back. The landlady was pleased that we took the time to go and have a meal as she likes to take part and give to different charities. We had fish chips and mushy peas, fruit crumble and custard big portion size and very tasty and hot. Lovely day out.

Had a brief stopover for lunch at this brewery owned pub. Normally these types of venues offer basic pub fare, steak, gammon, pies, scampi etc., but this menu was pleasingly different, with a much wider range and plenty of specials to choose from. The staff are pleasant and efficient, and dogs are welcome in most areas of the bar, with water bowls and treats available. The ladies had kedgeree which they approved of, my brother-in-law opted for the gammon, which turned out to be a decent thick slice instead of the thin rashers you get elsewhere, and he pronounced the chips to be excellent. My beef ragu with tagliatelle was tasty, albeit a little dry. However, that is the only criticism. The final bill didn't break the bank, even for Southwold!
