Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the chequers inn 3 times over a week’s camping trip, each time we were impressed with the delicious food and friendly staff. There’s a climbing frame for the kids but due to Covid is sadly unusable. The only issue really is how long it takes for food to come out. We ordered at 7:30 and didn’t receive starters until 8:35. Food is worth waiting for but with young children in tow it is a consideration. One final issue was there were no nappy changing facilities if you are with very young children.

We had sunday Lunch on a very busy Bank Holiday Sunday. The Staff worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was served quickly and efficiently, and they had made so much effort to ensure everyone was socially distanced with 2 seperate Marquee's. The Sunday Roast was the best we have had out in a long time, proper home cooked food, well done.

We have been to The Chequers before and it never fails to impress. Good pub grub in the £10-£12 range, local sausages and mash, cod and chips, jacket pots etc plus a range of baguettes with fillings of your choice. We have been to three or four pubs over the last six weeks and all of them tried to rip us off in some way - small portions, inflated prices , extra for vegetables, 10% service charge whacked on with no mention it is at the customers' discretion. Nothing like that The Chequers. Superb food at reasonable prices, served quickly and efficiently. We left feeling, just for a change, that we had had real value for money.

We went for a meal for the first time since the Chequers recently reopened under new management. As it was a nice evening we opted to eat at one of the well spaced tables in the garden, the food was excellent, 3 of us had the minted lamb special( the lamb from our local award winning butchers) and 1 had the gammon and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Even though this is an old village pub with a tricky internal layout the COVID-19 regulations are in place, it is clean , has a one way system and hand sanitisers and clear advice notices so we felt safe and comfortable. Dave, the new landlord,Kirsty, Chris and the team are friendly and welcoming and we wish them every success in these strange and difficult times.

Very friendly when phoned for table. Great menu. Starter was disappointing, garlic mushrooms on a bed of spinach. Hardly any spinach if any, mushrooms were tired and not presented very inspiring. Mains courses very fine but had to wait for too long especially as there were only 3 other people eating. The prices were reasonable but think I would rather pay more and enjoy it more.
I owner used to be the chef and the food etc was amazing, I feel things have changed since a chef was employed. We have tried a couple of times...... not sure if we will again.

After a busy day we were very hungry after missing normal roast dinner time, we arrived at the chequers only to find we were 5 minutes from closing the kitchen. We tentatively enquired and the landlord poured our drinks and said he would talk to chef who said of course he would serve us. The staff were so helpful and attentive, the surroundings were really lovely and when our meals arrived we were both very impressed with the quality of the food. The landlady was chatty and we had such a pleasant end to the day, we would completely recommend this pub to anyone.

Staying in the village we decided to stay local and booked a table for Sunday Lunch
It was quite busy but service was excellent and the food extremely good. Certainly at the top of the list for a good Sunday lunch.
Would recommend.

A party of 4, we decided to try the Chequers Inn under new management. We were not disappointed.
There were several specials to choose from and between us we had : 10oz Pork Chop with mushroom sauce (from award winning local butcher 5 stars!), flat iron steak, perfectly cooked and 2 fresh prawn and crayfish salad; excellent.
Worth a visit.

Visited this friendly, cosy village pub and will definitely be returning. Our meals were faultless, homemade, tasty, properly cooked veg, excellent portion size. Must mention the first class Bonoffe Pie 😋

Very impressed- food was lovely. Cooked fresh so just relax until the food comes. Very tender steak, homemade burgers and real onion rings. Children were made welcome by the friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

I assumed this Pub was worthy of a visit with it’s 4.5 star reviews. The building is charming on the outside. The main entrance can be challenging for some people, as it’s a steep step down. We were served swiftly by a friendly member of staff. The menu was relatively limited and we both elected to have the ‘Ham, Eggs and Chips’. As soon as our hot food arrived, we both immediately regretted our choice of venue. The ‘Ham, Eggs and Chips’, looked disappointing to say the least. Our ham was sliced disproportionately too thick and the eggs had been fried in excessively hot oil causing them to appear bubbled and slightly burnt at the edges. My ham appeared to have a faint odour of expired ham and my baked beans should have been served in small dish to enhance the appearance. The Chef needs to pay more attention to detail with presentation of their food. We both agreed to never return. Some of the local drinkers outside the pub, lowered the tone with their behaviour of rowdy drinking and smoking.

We have been to The Chequers many times and the staff and locals are always friendly, lunch today was good too. I would recommend the smoked salmon and prawn salad; tasty seafood and very fresh crispy leafy salad. My friend had crispy beef stir fry and she said it was very good. We will definitely go again.

Delicious food - roast lamb from local butchers particularly succulent - served with great roast potatoes, good selection of veg, including cauli cheese. Quick service and good selection of drinks to choose from. Lovely country pub with great atmosphere. Haven't visited for years but def will return soon.

First visit to the Chequers for a get together with friends.
Not the friendliest greeting I have experienced, all 4 of us thought the same. Unprofessional approach and service.
The Hunter's chicken was fairly flavoursome and well presented, as were the dishes my friends ordered. Just put off by service. Shame.
As an hotelier myself, I appreciate hospitable and welcoming staff.

Good food, good price, excellent pub. It even had a playground for the kids. We ate burgers and the lasagne. The kids menu wasn't the usual beige chicken nuggets options, and they enjoyed their proper home-made burger and sausage/mash. It was a great find after a long drive.
