... to adequately describe what a dream our stay was at The Plough. we booked quite late in the day (only 30 minutes before arriving) and our room was, understandably not quite ready for us, so we had a drink in the pub garden and admired the stunning views over the fields enveloping the pub.
The owner, whose name completely escapes me unfortunately came and greeted us having put the finishing touches to our room. She is a wonderfully personable lady and you can tell that she and her husband, who I believe runs the kitchen, put every bit of care and attention in to their business for their guests enjoyment.
Stunning rooms are situated in converted barns with a mezzanine living space overlooking the fields with the bedroom and bathroom downstairs. I haven't slept that well in years.
The food was absolute perfection. Why this chap doesn't have a Michelin Star, I do not know! We were leaving very early in the morning before breakfast service would begin, so as we were paying for dinner, we were offered to take freshly baked croissants, yoghurts, juice and milk for our journey.
We hope to return very soon, covid permitting

Really welcoming country pub full of dogs, which suits us fine. We had Saturday lunch here and the place was reasuringly busy. We found out that this was with good reason. We all had great service and beautifully cooked food. We were slightly worried about the quality of the meat (turkey, lamb, chicken) it just seemed off the best one can get. The fish was at the top of its game. But the super flavours and skilled cooking over-ruled my judgement and scoring. Great selection of food on offer. I would like to say a special word for the servers, all of whom had genuine interest in what they were dishing out.

This was one of those last minute decisions which really pays off. The plough had been recommended to us but in fact surpassed expectations. Scallops were perfectly cooked.
My son, who relishes his steaks said this was the best in a long time. My roast gurnard was delicious and the veggie pronounced himself delighted with the risotto - all the more because this is the first place we’ve been where they’ve really tried to adapt to our preferences. Lovely old pub, friendly and efficient service. We’ll be back soon.

After many months of lockdown my partner and I were looking forward to having our first night out together. We booked the Plough Inn as they used to do a very nice pub menu, we arrived and were seated and served drinks very quickly by two lovely waitresses who couldn't of been more attentive and pleasant. the pub itself was spotless and exuded it's antinque charm with oak beams a plenty.
We were seated given the new menu and ordered soft shelled crab and chicken wing starters which arrived very quickly. the soft shelled crab had been battered and deep fried which had totalled destroyed any flavour except the batter and the chicken wings were served nouvelle cuisine style and looked very pretty but for £9 we had expected more than two small skinned wings and a pile of pretty choped veg.
We both ordered the Wild Boar for mains and once again the pretty nouvelle cuisine portions arrived. The boar was very nice (pulled pork style) and so was the portion of potatoes, but we decided to forego the dessert menu and returned home to get some food at home and assage our hunger.
We will happily stop by for drinks again, but the food for all it's very lovely presentation, really didn't stand up to similar establishments so we probably won't dine there again with the current menu in place.

The Plough Inn has always been one of our favourite pubs, not least because of its atmosphere & setting, and this visit was no exception. The staff who looked after us were unfamiliar to us on this occasion but as friendly and helpful as ever with the chef coming out to greet us and to explain some of the more unusual items on the menu & there are quite a few. Among them was brill, a fish rarely encountered in a pub. Two of our party of three had this & both agreed it was perfectly cooked and presented in a saffron velouté that was to die for. We ordered mashed potatoes and broccoli spears on the side but really these weren't necessary. The dish was more than adequate on its own. The third in our party had the battered haddock & chips. The fish looked enormous but was confirmed light & fluffy and, once again, cooked to perfection. My brother & I could testify that the chips were perfect, crunchy outside, light & fluffy inside, just as chips should be. For dessert, we all chose the vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb which was worthy of the Great British Menu. My photo really doesn’t do it justice.
Only one negative, the day turned out to be colder than expected so the usual log fire would have been welcome. A word to the wise: the food is all cooked to order so have a little patience. You'll be well rewarded.

We had a lovely lunch at The Plough to top off a 5 mile dog walk through the beautiful North Kent Downs last Bank Holiday Monday. As two families we pretty much ordered the whole menu with the younger members thoroughly enjoying their burgers and fish and chips etc with us older (paying!) members having excellent Hake, scallops, and steaks. Great to be able to relax in the large marquee provided to allow for COVID secure dining, and the young staff were attentive and on the ball.
Thanks to Richard and the team.
We will be back!

Thank you for posting a review, it's lovely that we were able to meet all of the families culinary delights. Thank you also for noting the team - obviously I might me slightly bias but I think they are doing a great job in these challenging times and the praise from customers in such public forums helps to keep them going. Hope to see you again soon Marianne & Richard

The rooms are in a modern terrace separate from the main pub building. Interesting and useful two-storey layout with a dining table and sitting area upstairs and bedroom plus bathroom downstairs. Breakfast is brought to the room in a hamper- fine but content is thus limited. Pub restaurant staff young and enthusiastic though would benefit from some training. Meals OK but best to stick to the pub standards in our experience.
Location reached by extremely narrow lanes from every direction with many heart-stopping blind bends.

Thankyou for taking the time to speak to us about your review, we are sorry to hear that you felt breakfast was limited but for £12 however as this includes 2 drinks per person we feel this is good value for money, whilst hotels might offer more choice we prefer to offer quality over quantity. We now also understand what you mean by stick to pub grub because the halibut you had on your first night was a slight more refined dish rather than the steak on your second night and our pub classics are slightly larger portions. The team are indeed young and enthusiastic, which is great to see and under the right leadership we hope to see them flourish.
Kind regards Marianne & Richard

Dinner in late September definitely has a very different feel to our previous visit for lunch last summer, pre COVID. Not sure why it took us so long to return as the food is excellent here and the pub is full of character in an idyllic rural setting. But, it was a slightly hairy drive back to Whitstable in the dark: without satnav we’d have been stranded. I’d recommend a lunchtime visit in winter to really enjoy the scenery.
There is a homely and welcoming feel to this relaxed country pub with its high quality, fresh and tasty food from a thoughtfully constructed menu. To start we had: light and crispy chorizo scotch egg with tangy charcoal mayo (hard to spot the charcoal element in the darkening evening) and curly kale; goats leg terrine (a delightful revelation) with pickled vegetables and raisin caper purée. Mains we chose: halibut, puy lentils, salsify, purple cauliflower with curried mussel sauce; and local cod, prawn and dill macaroni, salty fingers and seaweed sauce. The fish was succulent and well complimented by the varied accompaniments.
Staff were attentive and the venue appeared fully COVID compliant.

My friend and I had dinner at The Plough Inn a couple of nights ago, just wanted to go somewhere that we had been to before and had a good experience.
Both of our meals were exceptional, extremely tasty and well presented, of a very high standard and good value for money.
My friend had the Fish and Chips and I had the Baked Camembert, with Baked Cheesecake with homemade sorbet for dessert.
There was also a good selection of wines.
It was so lovely when the owner/chef came out to check that all was good for us.
The pub has a lovely atmosphere, beautiful old building and the staff are very friendly and at the same time professional.
I look forward to visiting again soon.

Unable to book the two nights accommodation that we wanted in Faversham, we were forced to venture further afield.
We are so glad that we did.
The Plough Inn is located within the beautiful Kent village of Stalisfield, about a 20 mins drive away via rural country lanes from Faversham.
Our room, Willow, was themed on the fox.
Fox lamps, cushions, pictures, colour scheme and ornaments. Fabulous attention to detail.
All rooms are situated over two floors, set within a barn like block. Willow has a very well appointed bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor and a lounge area with a sofa bed, table and chairs on the first floor. Both floors have a TV.
Our bathroom contained both a bath and a separate shower. All fixtures and fittings were high end and we loved the attention to detail. The bathroom sink is located in front of a window, however a large mirror can be slid into place in front of the window if required.
If you walk into the bathroom at night, lights are set within the bath panel which automatically illuminate so you don’t need to turn the bathroom lights on. We’ve only ever seen this is very high end hotels. Great touch!
Breakfast orders are taken the night before and are delivered at a time of your choice to your room in a picnic hamper. A cafetière of coffee and a cooked breakfast were enjoyed and eaten at the table on the first floor.
We ate in the restaurant on both nights. The food was excellent. The wine list is great as is the gin menu. It is rare to find so many different gins available and so much choice of wines served by the glass.
This is a very casual village pub and restaurant, however, the standard of food and drink would merit a far more high end status if it were located else where.
If you want great accommodation, great food and drink all served within a relaxed, informal setting, this is the place for you.

Delicious dinner, fabulous choice of gins and chance to stay in a beautiful room just a couple of minutes walk away. The Inn itself is very old and full of character. The suite accommodation felt new and was tastefully decorated and furnished to a high spec. Cooked breakfast was delivered to our room in a traditional hamper and was very tasty.

A friend of my wife’s had visited here recently with her family and praised it highly, we booked knowing it would likely be popular.
There was a good selection of drinks available, and plenty of staff running orders to and from outside and inside.
The menu was varied; and upon receiving our mains we were impressed with the quality of the dishes. The desserts sounded beautiful, so we skipped starters snd saved room for those - wow !
The nice touch of the dessert plate when we finished was a lovely touch, thank you
We would definitely go back, (if my wife’s nerves could hold out for the cross country journey !)
Would definitely recommend

Fantastic 3 night stay! The team were all very pleasant and attentive and the service was great. We stayed 3 nights and ate at the restaurant every night as the food was delicious and we could not fault the service. We took our dog who was allowed in the restaurant with us and also allowed in the downstairs part of our accommodation to which they supplied a dog gate for the stairs. Lots of tea and coffee supplied in the room and there is a small fridge in the room for the milk. The pub is very secluded so we had lovely country walks. I would recommend taking a map or buying a walking book and planning your walking route around the area. Thanks for our stay! We have recommended to family and friends already.

A wonderful find for a weekend one night/day stay with our two dogs. The owner Marianne and her staff could not have been more helpful, the food was top notch, especially the desserts, and the duplex rooms were really comfortable with top quality furniture and bedclothes. We were lucky with the weather so made the most of the large outside spaces and local walks. Cooked breakfast delivered to our door in a hamper was a treat. Well done to the owners and staff, you have nailed it and we will happily recommend it to friends with/without dogs.

We booked The plough on the recommendation of a friend who had stayed here a few weeks earlier. We weren't disappointed, a lovely peaceful place. The rooms were high quality, spacious and very clean. We stayed for 4 nights, we ate in the restaurant, the meals we had were really good, and service matched. One of the nights we were there the restaurant wasn't open but still a choice of meals was offered to us, prepared and delivered to us. A lovely choice for breakfast that was delivered to your door at a time of your choice. All in all we couldn't fault this place at all, Richard went out of his way to be helpful. We would certainly recommend.
