Following recent refurbishment, renaming and upmarketing, the Tipsy Fox may be a location that previously wary locals are now inclined to revisit. We hadn't been inside for several years so were quite impressed that it is actually quite pleasant and certainly more welcoming. When we recently called in on a weekday lunchtime, the car park was almost full but the bar was almost empty! Then a very friendly lady directed us to the separate compact dining area up a few steps at the back, and there were the rest of the punters. The menu isn't overly adventurous and certain items were unavailable, whilst the specials had yet to be introduced. So, like several other couples, I had the burger and Mrs EPR had the fish and chips. Couldn't fault either; the burger was the towering full works on a brioche bun with plenty of accompanying french fries. Meanwhile, Mrs EPR approved the freshness of her fish and the lightness of its batter. I thought her extremely chunky chips looked hard work, though. Everything was ably administered by the jolly lady that we initially encountered, and I can report that the draught Harvey's was on top form. Well worth another lunchtime visit. Wonder what it's like at closing time on a Saturday night?

We decided to give this newly refurbished and managed pub a visit for our date night last Friday. Not disappointed in the least. The pub was busy but yet the friendly and welcoming staff behind the bar looked after us from the time we walked in. The bar area was crowded but we found a place to have pre-dinner drinks there anyway. We took our dog so sat in a lovely alcove outside of the of the restaurant but outside of the busy bar area also and the food we ordered was excellent. Fresh, well cooked, tasty and the cost of both main courses and desserts were reasonable. Not cheap eats, but good quality food and again, I have to mention how good the pub staff were at all times and alert to our needs for both drinks and dinner. We shall definitely return.

Splendid Saturday lunch. Particular call out to the Calamari which was the best I have ever had accompanied by the loveliest alioli (better than Miller and Carter!!!). Main meals - there are great variety of choice and quality. My husband had the pie of the day which was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. We did not make it to dessert as we were so full of great food. Only slight disappointment was that there were no real ales due to Xmas period but the Guinness and the pinot blush were fab. We have lived in Southwater for 13 years and seen this pub change hands so many times and have never wanted to frequent the establishment!!! We were surprised and very pleased with the knowledgeable and amiable staff and an also the very pleasant surroundings. Tipsy Fox you really are set to give the Bax a run for their money. We sincerely hope you do. Thanks again for a lovely lunch. We will be back. Kind regards Jo Ward

What a disaster. Whilst looking appealing from the outside, with a lovely outdoor seating area, I warn you to not be fooled. First of all, the service was extremely slow. This was not the waiter/waitresses fault, it was due to the sheer lack of staff on shift, bearing in mind it was a sunny saturday afternoon. Our first round of drinks took at least 40 minutes to come. The gin tree we ordered, was incorrect, with the wrong gin flavours served with incorrect mixers - this was disappointing. We then ordered hot food for lunch. I opted for two starters rather than a main ( a portion of garlic bread as well as halloumi) which was inedible. The garlic bread was a dry piece of bread slathered with a thick layer of plain butter likewise with rubbery halloumi which was drowning in an unpleasant sauce. Others on the table had burgers with what they like to call 'shoestring chips' which were stone cold. No one finished their plate of food due to the lack of quality and care taken with the taste and preparation. After attempting to finish our food, we waited at least 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared. Meanwhile, the music was turned up extremely loud, making it extremely difficult for us to talk to one another. We called the what looked like 'manager' over, and explained to him we had been waiting over 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared, and asked if it was possible to turn the music down a tad. He replied with ' okay I will find someone to clear them for you' in an arrogant, and condescending tone, failing to deliver an apology. The toilets. We went to use the toilets and was informed that the ladies were out of order due to a blockage. As a result, they told us the only option was to use the staff toilets which involved tip toeing around boxes behind the bar in order to use it. In addition, we were also told that there's no lock on the staff toilet door and so we either had to stamp or whistle to ensure no one walked in. If I had seen the state of the toilets prior to eating, I would have walked straight back out. All in all, as a family, we were excited to finally go out together, and have an enjoyable lunch together, but ended up feeling like we had wasted our time and money. I would never go back.

Went for lunch today, group of 6 people 3 of us had the pie of the day one was cooked good one was over cooked pastry all hard and the other was cold in the middle sent it back they bought a replacement out and said they would take it off the bill but the replacement was cold in the middle as well. So sent it back again the waitress apologised and went to talk to someone came back and offered us something else of the menu but they were waiting for a delivery so menu was limited anyway. Think were be giving it a miss from now on.

The service was practically non-existent, every time we placed an order it was forgotten about and we had to ask again and again. They only took the food order for half the table before walking off and it took 20 minutes to get attention from any staff to place the rest of the order. We didn’t get out food until 1 hour 40 minutes after arrival and it was cold. They’ve clearly gone to a lot of effort to make the garden a nice place to sit but it’s a shame they haven’t put the same effort into training their staff.

Our first pub visit out since lockdown and my family and I (including our 2 granddaughters aged 10 years & 15 months)booked a table for 5 at The Tipsy Fox. Order placed for starters and mains and 2 children’s meals. 1 hour 15 minutes later still no sign of starters or children’s meals, yet people who arrived after us were getting their food, so we attract the attention of the blonde waitress we gave our order to, she tells us she will go check with the kitchen, 15 minutes later still no feedback provided. We get the attention of another staff member who does return and says food will be out shortly. Another 15 minutes and still no food, as luck would have it we happen to see a manager, he says he will go see what has happened. He returns and explains our food was given to another table and offers us our meals for free and says the food will be wiv us in 6-7 minutes so we ask to ensure at least the children’s meals come out. 25 minutes later our starters (minus 1), mains and children’s meals all come out at the same time. We then have to chase a further 3x before the remaining starter is bought out. Food was awful, was iced cold, bacon was actually a lump of fat (cold fat), Calamari was rubbery, Halloumi fries were awful, chicken strips & fish fingers over cooked. Unfortunately for me it was the first and the last visit to The Tipsy Fox. Suggestions: use table numbers (this will prevent food going to wrong tables), train your staff to communicate if any time delays as well as to go back to customers when say they will and lastly clearly additional staff required in the kitchen to ensure food is delivered timeously, fresh and hot.

Me and my 3 friends trip discussion. Food: quite expensive for what you get, the macaroni bites were delicious (best bit) as was the pulled pork burger and onion ring. However the shoe lace fries were very much carbouard cuttings (personally found these stale and disappointing), cheesy garlic bread, was bread with a slice of cheese and the calamari didn't match the price. Main point of issue was the dodgy hallumi quite rubbery for the fries, and the burger for me was only eaten because I didn't want to cause a fuss. Really lacking vegetarian options I believe this equated to 1 main. Drinks: good selection, sadly run out of cocktails but the gintree was really positive however the peroni was very expensive and they were warm. Service: was extremely slow and had to ask multiple times for menus and drinks list, food seemed quick but we think they need to become more organised with regards to everything. We asked for cutlery and didn't receive any so we ate with our hands. The bill was way more than we ordered as they billed us for stuff they'd ran out of (therefore never received), however final lady sorted this for us, thankfully. However we felt sorry for her as she hadn't been informed and had only just started her shift. We found this strange as normally you have a server per section. Site note: this may all be due to lack of staff. Second positive the outside was very accommodating to weather. Kind regards.

We came here with a party on 6th June. The online menu said they had roast beef and chicken. The first thing the waitress said, to us, was that they had no roasts. The menu choices were very limited. In fact I've seen better choices in a roadside burger bar! We settled for fish cakes which were obviously bought in, so called shoestring fries, which displayed a strong resemblance to Mccain crispy french fries and a small salad. For this meagre offering we were charged the princely sum of £12.95 per portion. We regularly dine out for Sunday lunch and this has been our worst experience yet. I did wonder if they actually had a chef working that day. Avoid this place at all costs. We will certainly not be returning.

After being served raw food and being refused a refund I later got my partner to call up and discuss the situation. After speaking to the manager after being told they weren't there even though I'd seen them in the pub/restaurants on duty and finally getting a refund for the one meal. I then had to be put on hold again for another member of staff to refund the money over the phone cause the manager didn't know how. Making you question of anyone in there is a manager and who's actually in charge. But don't worry apparently it was fine to eat and if I didn't want it that pink/raw I should have said

Went there with my friends and they have a small child and we simply loved it. The building itself has so much history and its been redone recently to preserve it. Food was amazing too! I had the salmon linguine and they had the fish and the kids menu and we loved every bit of it. There was even a couple with they gorgeous dog having drinks so everyone is welcome. There is a piano and I heard they have quiz night and live music night! Wonderful gem that has to be visited if you are around and if you live there this will be one to keep. Lots of gin options: they even have a gin menu!Loved my gin served with grapefruit. Thank you to the staff for offering us such a wonderful afternoon!I will return when i come to visit them .

Booked a table for six of us for a birthday, four of the party had roasts they were all good sizes and everyone was very happy with there portions. I had the ciabatta with roast beef which also comes with gravy and roast potatoes it was lovely. My son who is six had the chicken goujons we all tried them because they looked so nice and fresh the flavoring was incredible. Pudding was bought out with a candle on for the birthday boy. Brilliant service from everyone. Thank you all

Turned up today for lunch with a mate. NO DRAUGHT ALES AVAILABLE!!??? Only lager and Guiness on tap. Come on guys these are the basics! "Crispy" chicken burger was anything but crispy and was overcooked. They had even run out of salt for the tables (and by god the food needed it...). Sorry, I've had some really nice meals here in the past, but today's experience makes me question if I'll ever go again. Bar staff were at their normal excellent best, but were just let down by the poor management of the basics.

Come to the tispy fox a good few times now since opening, every time we come it’s great service and everyone’s got a smile on their face. Tonight we were served by Gabby, great worker catered for all our needs and answered any questions we had regarding food and drinks. Would recommend The Tipsy Fox to any friends or family.

It was a family get together and there were 18 of us for Sunday Lunch. They managed to find an area where we could all sit together around 1 big table. It meant we were able to chat easily to everyone in the family. We were asked to choose our mains in advance which was a great idea with such a large group. We all really enjoyed our food. It all arrived at the same time and was hot - impressive. Between us all I think we pretty much covered all the mains on the menu. The desserts were homemade by a local person and were delicious. All the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Everyone agreed that it was a fantastic place. Thank you Tipsy Fox!
