Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely setting in the little square of this ancient village, with shaded outdoor tables. I have known this restaurant for many years.. In the past it was a sheer delight with an interesting menu, then it went downhill and I stopped eating there. This is...my first re-visit as I was told that it had improved again. Gone is the wide choice of courses; although there is an a la carte, the set menu offering only two choices of entree, main course and dessert. I had an aubergine involtini with jambon cru, nice enough though not exciting, followed by a well roasted quail with mashed potqtoes and red cabbage and chose the goat's cheese with fig compote as dessert. A fairly simple meal, though adequate, but far from its former glory. A pichet of vin rose and a coffee brought the bill to a little less than 50 euros.More

Delicious set lunch outside under the parasols. Nice atmosphere and choice of dishes. We will definitely visit again.

We’ve had this venue on our list for some years but for one reason or another, never managed to visit until now, at last. A boon was that it is possible to book online which negates the tedious language issues that can arise sadly too...often and provides a degree of certainty which assists the digestion. We’d received many plaudits from friends and so booked for a Monday, a day when quite a few local eateries are closed. We arrived for a noon booking when the restaurant was already buzzing with a good atmosphere. There is a large outside area as well as a fairly large capacity inside. Given that the weather was then a little unpredictable, we opted for an inside seat. Soon all tables inside were taken and a variety of languages could be discerned with the servers busily attending. The fare is interesting and perhaps a little ‘left field’ but all the better for it. We chose the menu at E18 each along with an aperitif of pastis and jus d’ orange at E3 each. A 25cl carafe of local red and a couple of coffees brought the total to around the E50 mark. I’d say very good value for what was an enjoyable if eclectic meal - we’ll be revisiting again soon. The village of Aigne is a lovely little village as we discovered after the meal and like so many in the area, offering so much behind a fairly pedestrian main street. Both village and restaurant are well worth a visit.More

There's much to admire about this family-run restaurant: the delightful setting, the floral terrace, the smart, simple interior, the friendly, swift service. But what places it among the best in the area is the chef's touch. This amiable guy is an alchemist, taking local produce...and transforming it into something that shines, whether it's sea-fresh fish, silky pomme purée or deft sauces. He practises innovation without gimmickry, producing food that satisfies eye, soul and appetite. We've been perhaps 20 times in the last few years and not one meal has disappointed. A three-course lunch with wine for €36? IA bargain. We're leaving this part of France; a fond au revoir.More

I ate here with two girlfriends on 22 May. The food was delicious and I was delighted to see my favourite as one of the starters - oysters. Cost was around €30 per person for 3 courses plus wine. I will definitely go back.

We went there for our last evening meal in France. We had a lovely 3 course meal with great ambience and waiting staff. They also made good vegetarian main course which was fresh and delicious! Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We were told by the owner of the place we stayed that this was a good restaurant. It is located in a small historic town away from the main roads. They have a lovely terrace, good menu and friendly service. Although we had to drive...about 15 km to go there we were very happy we did.More

Fabulous local restaurant. No matter what you choose of the menu will be good. We frequently come to this local restaurant and are never disappointed. Christophe and Arthur are always welcoming and friendly. Service is good, and summer has the outdoor terrasse, and winter the...cosy wood burning fire inside.More

We have been in France for fifteen yewars and eat out every week. We came to La Cagarol a long time ago but locally we were becoming disappointed with some restaurants so decided to eat here on Nov. 22nd---what a suprise...very good. Fresh, local sourced...food, well cooked and presented. My husband always finds soemthing to moan about but he could not fault any of his courses and said he would happily return the following week. Waiter was apparently the son and his father is the chef. Cold night but they had an open log fire which made it very cosy. Well done.More

This place was recommended by a friend who knows this area well and it didn’t disappoint. The menu du jour was really well priced and three of us ate off that menu. A la Carter was very good as well but wasn’t as good a...price performer. Decor and ambience we were really nice. Service was attentive and thorough and the food was very good but not exceptional. Biggest drawback is the house dog. Cute in an ugly sort of way but annoyingly begs at tables going so far as to bark at you for food. He must be successful at times because he is fat!More

Had been advised that Lo Calgarol was a typical, average village restaurant but we risked it and were rewarded by a wonderful meal of innovative cooking that would bring a smile to John Torode's face. From gazpacho with tomato and basil sorbet to nectarine soup...with cassis sorbet, the whole experience was a delight - with just the right attention from the cheerful and friendly staff. Go there, its worth a detour.More

We have already visited several times this summer with various group sizes. The menu has been different each time which is great, always interesting choices available with a small but perfectly formed wine list. Fantastic value 20 Euro Menu du Jour as well as the...A la Carte menu to choose from. I would highly recommend this restaurant, excellent friendly staff who always make you feel welcome and a lovely terrace to sit out on and the inside of the restaurant is also subtly decorated for those cooler evenings.More

Two great meals here during our week for a family wedding at Chateau d’Agel. Friendly efficient service and a value for money daily set menu. Pleasant sitting outside in the centre of Aigne.
