Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

seldom you find a restaurant where the 'Mama' prepares local Piedmontese food of exellent quality . The only thing left for you to choose is the wine . Otherwise Mama will bring different dishes to the table , from the delicious American (Carne, cruda) to...the pasta Ragou , vitello Tonato , insalata russa , salame Cotto E Crudo , Ravioli del plin , Tajarin Ragou etc etc and not to speak about the 'Dolce' including tira miso , Panna cotta , and other puddings ....endless food ...so don't touch bread at the beginning , also if you are very hungry , wait for the food to come ..there is more than enough of the best quality Piedmontese kitchen .More

One of the most famous restaurants in the region where “La Mamma” Gemma prepares delicious local dishes in her kitchen. Very popular and hard to find a table so reservation is necessary/recommended. No menu, you eat what “La Mamma” prepares. Michelin included this place in...their restaurant guide. Wines at very reasonable prices.More

No menu, but classic dishes of Piemonte: sausages, vitello tonnato, insalata russa, carne cruda, agnolotti, tajarin, brasato al Barolo, bunet, meringata. I can't translate because you can eat only TAJARIN.. Slow food, we spent 2 hours and half; friendly people, when Mrs.Gemma start and visit...the guests tables, looking for customers valuation. Stop and eat.More

No menu. Gemma and her helpers cook what's on at the time. I think there were 12 different dishes starting with antipasti, primi (firsts), secondi (second dishes) and dolci (desserts). Selection of wines including a most drinkable unlabelled house wine. BOOKING MONTHS IN ADVANCE is...recommended, maybe even years. I cannot describe this culinary experience. Food our grandmothers prepared, the same way and a tradition kept alive by Gemma. The "carne cruda" (raw finely hand cut veal) was outstanding. Fresh, tasty and not minced. Great quality meat as well. Fresh pasta, fresh everything. Sumptuous sauces and flavour, flavour and more flavour. Oh boy. What a feed! Never to be forgotten.More

Gemma's had been first recommended to us by our host at the accommodation we had been staying at in 2009. We have visited several times since and recommended it to others but this was our first visit back in some years. Very little had changed...other than it was busier (with lots of locals rather than tourists), there were white tablecloths in lieu of bare tables, the bread was in baskets rather than just loose on the table and the cost had gone up to EUR29 per person (i.e EUR4 per person since 2011). The wine is still EUR1 per person unless you wish to purchase a labelled bottle. The Osteria is about 20 kilometres from Alba (approximately a 30 minute drive) and is at the top of this small hilltop village. The formula thankfully has not changed over the years. Gemma and the ladies of the village still get together on set days of the week to make the pasta. There is no menu and the ladies walk from table to table with plates of various sizes with the food which you help yourself to. There is always an abundance of fresh seasonal produce. On the day we visited, included in the EUR29 per person, was bread and bread sticks, two types of sausage (which you cut yourself), three entrees of vitello tonnato, veal tartare and a Russian salad; 2 pastas being spaghetti and tortellini, two mains of beef and rabbit with a plate of carrots. There were three desserts including a meringue dish and coffee panna cotta. All of the dishes were very plentiful and very good. Service was very efficient and very friendly. The maitre'd and wine waiter is Gemma's son and he organised for Gemma to show us the room where they make the pasta and also quickly demonstrate how they hand cut it from large rolls of pasta dough. This truly is a unique Italian experience without any pretensions.More

You can have place like this only in Italy. Why ? Because at the same time: Outstanding Location over the Langhe Hills. Nice atmosphere. No menu, i mean you have to eat what they decide to serve. But ... Outstanding food. Outstanding wines. Very nice...final check. Don't be shy when you get there, in case do some diet the week before. After lunch go walking over the hills and you'll be fine. To get there you may need to reserve months in advance, but then ... Enjoy !More

I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the best meal I've ever had. My husband and I agree this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The food was amazing, authentic, hand cut noodles with white truffles, the most divine steak tartar of my life - melted...on the tongue upon contact, and the unfiltered red wine was lovely. We loved meeting the owner, Gemma, who is so kind and endearing. Do not miss this wonderful place and be sure to go up to the rooftop to see the beautiful town and hills below.More

Osteria da Gamma is a basic family owned quite stable restaurant in a small village called Roddino. Area is specific for world quality wines such as Barolo and, Barbaresco. There is no a menu booklet for you to choose. Everything served in this restaurant has...been selected by Gemma for you before...:) You will be quite happy when and, after eating the served food with a good table wine or selected another bottled wine. Totally, nine kinds of delicious foods including deserts you eat with a nice red wine (Of course, you may choose white wine also). I have had eaten there at least three times in different periods and no surprise at each time. This hidden high quality and considerably at a good price family restaurant deserves your selection although not located in central position. If you are luck you van also watch the making process of fresh tagliatella by Gemma (but, I was not last time)... Please, call the restaurant and reserve your table before going there to prevent standing still almost 40 to 50 minutes...:) Do not search for th ephone numer... That is it...0173 794252.More

We were hungry and just randomly checked what options were available in the neighborhood. Found this place and decided to give it a try. First of all you have to know that they serve a fixed menu - lunch was 29eur. To start with you...get some sausage and bread, next big plate of veal tartare, Russian salad next, plate of pasta, plate of raviolis, main - which actually skipped as it was not possible for us to eat more. We had a little taste of the desert tho. Everything has been delicious, very generous portions too. Highly recommended if you want a proper Piemontese meal in a nice atmosphere!More
