Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent food and of surprisingly good value. This quiet restaurant was ideal for an early evening meal, complete with cocktails.

Fantastic food, a warm welcome, a great vibe and “open” when so many other restaurants aren’t open on weekend evenings.

Very pleasant decor and atmosphere. Good food and friendly staff. The set menus offer good choice and are relatively inexpensive. We had a great evening here.

We discovered la Bretagne as it was one of the only restaurants open in Fougeres on a March Wednesday evening and it was a pleasant surprise. The main dining room has a large art deco style ceiling light and a cosy interior. However we sat...in the sun lounge enabling us to enjoy the sunny evening and watch people passing by. The waitress was friendly and helpful and the food was (comme d'habitude en France) good quality and very reasonably priced.More

Inside is always clean and fresh. Staff are friendly - but it helps if you speak French or at least try to speak French. Sometimes the food can be superb. Sometimes it can be just ordinary. Sometimes it can be a bit of both. But...this isn't a Michelin, and it doesn't charge Michelin prices. On the downside? I wish the chairs were more comfortable. But they arent too bad.More

Having visited this restaurant numerous times while living in France and never having a bad meal, my husband and I decided to try it again after not visiting for four years. It was very busy, so expected to wait a little longer, it was 40mins...before our starter came and that was ok. Our main course was awful, my husbands lamb cutlet was very thin and grisly with a small garnish and a pile of chips, no sauce so very dry. My duck leg (which was boiled) came with the same garnish and chips also no sauce, certainly not what we have been used to in France. I asked the waitress if it came with sauce and she said no, my husband complained about his lamb and she said it was perfectly alright and shrugged. We left without having a dessert very disappointed.More

I have been to Le Bretagne on several occasions and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. The St Jacques starter is very good and excellent value as part of a set menu. The atmosphere is good with interesting photos on the...walls. My only slight criticism is that the menu does not change regularly but I would still go backMore

Unlike so many town centre restaurants Le Bretagne is a welcoming haven of peace after a tiring visit to Fougere's fantastic chateau and struggling through the busy traffic. It is an old style French traditional building with interior design to match which makes for a...relaxing atmosphere. Family-run, you are made most welcome and it is the ideal place for a very affordable first class traditional French lunch with first class service to match. Food is well presented and the menu offers a good choice. Well worth a visit.More

Our family (four kids, two parents) had an excellent lunch at Le Bretagne on Sunday 24th August 2014. It was a welcome find in a town that seemed almost entirely shut on this particular Sunday. The food was excellent. Snails, entrecôte, profiteroles all to be...highly recommended. The waffles (gaufre) were not good (at least to my non-French tastes). The restaurant was packed, but service was efficient, and the kitchen was flexible to our children's picky tastes (e.g. no ham in the croque monsieur!). This is exactly the sort of brasserie that one thinks is on every street corner in France, but actually most disappoint: not Le Bretagne. Highly recommended.More

I would really, really recommend the confit de canard, because it was exquisite! I would go there again just for that! Let alone the food, the welcome was warm by the owners and they were very attentive, though it may have helped that we were...the first people in the restaurant that evening. The evening was very reasonably priced, and had a very French menu of escargots etc, which my father enjoyed very much. Definitely recommend this place to tourists staying in Fougeres, I particularly recommend the duck!More

We took a chance as we were the first to arrive. However,we were very pleased that we did. We both went for a fixed price menu of 15 euros which had a good choice including steak and a couple of fish dishes. Everything we ordered...was well presented and tasty, including a delicious mousse au chocolat. We also had carafes of wine which were reasonably priced.More
