Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Around our 30th year of visiting Caroline’s wonderful typically French style restaurant for a 5 hour get together over some of the best food and drink imaginable. Time goes so fast whilst enjoying the food, atmosphere and company that unfortunately 5 hours just seems like a couple.
Caroline and her family are the best hosts imaginable even making sure we have extra chips !
Location is perfect in the heart of Calais. We can see how popular it is with other visitors from the UK as talking over the years with fellow day trippers they do the same as us by coming back year after year despite the high price now of the tunnel.

We usually eat on arrival in France in a cheaper brasserie but booked on the Tuesday for lunch returning on Friday. We only wanted a main but not a problem. Lovely maitre d and waiter, amazing decor like stepping back in time. Food superb and yes maybe you paid a little more. Only heard one other English voice as it was full of locals so must be good. Will be back

From the greeting at the door to the thank you and good bye this restaurant exceeds all expectations. The service is second to none with the food served being of the highest quality at an affordable price. The menus is extensive with a great choice of set menus. We was a party of six and nothing was a problem also the wine list was very good and reasonable price. Most people just pass through Calais but you will be missing out on a great culinary experience if you don’t take time out to visit this wonderful restaurant

Treat yourselves to this wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere is ‘traditional French’, reasonably formal but friendly and the beautifully prepared dishes are served with panache.
This memorable dining experience made up for it being our last evening in France.
Thoroughly recommended.

This was a 50th birthday celebration lunch for our son who always enjoys good food and our visit to La Buissonniere did not disapoint us. We all decided on a selection from the 'Seduction' menu which was a good choice. The fish soup was excellent, full of depth, as a fish soup should be. The fricassee of veal sweetbreads and the monkfish medallions were just so tasteful. Creme brulee and a super coffee to finish, oh yes!. Couple all this with excellent wine, very attentive staff and a lovely maitre d' - what more could you ask for?. This was a good choice for a a small party travelling from UK for a day out in Calais with good car parking in the adjacent shopping mall - we will return, so thank you La Buissonniere for satisfying our culinary needs so well on the day.

We had lunch in this restaurant by chance. I reported my gluten intolerance upon arrival. The servers immediately took care to guide me in my choices and even offered me gluten-free bread (exceptional I would say but very appreciable)!
The dishes were delicious from start to finish without forgetting the appetizer and the sweet treats during the coffee. The seasoning was perfect and the taste of each ingredient was very present!
The team is really friendly, discreet but attentive!
The menus are rather affordable given the quality of the products: the weekday menu is more than appreciable!
We will be back with pleasure very soon! THANKS !

We called to make a reservation at 17:15, for 18:00, the restaurant opens at 17:30. A very friendly young lady answered the phone and was so kind and accommodating. When we arrived, we were met with the same positive and caring energy by Caroline who made our evening very special. The food was excellent and both food and service were classy and professional.
Thank you for a lovely evening Caroline. All the best for you and your lovely parents. 🙏

I was disappointed after the good reviews to find a very dated restaurant that served small portions of very bland food. I ordered turbot which should have been great to find the smallest cut of old fish with mostly bones, served with bland rice and baby food veg. Having spent €101 on 2 meals and a cheap (€45!!) bottle of wine I wouldn’t recommend anyone to visit.

After reading all the positive reviews posted, I
made me happy at the restaurant. Fortunately, I wasn't asked for my review of what I had just had dinner... 28 euros for 15 grams of cod certainly fresh but accompanied by a bowl of white and bland rice did not convince me at all of the "gastronomic" aspect of the place. Very poor experience.

We had a fantastic dinner at La Buissonniere. We were a group of 27 on a cycling tour of France and this was our last night, so we wanted a special meal to celebrate.
Both the food and the service were impeccable and the speed at which they were able to cater for such a large group was extremely impressive.
We had a fixed price menu which was great value as well as house wine, which was very good quality.
I would definitely recommend the restaurant for a large group, particularly as they have a dedicated private dining room upstairs.

As a family of eight (6 Adults & 2 teenagers), we had nothing short of a superb and delicious lunch , and in a typically French friendly setting … highly recommended. From the moment we arrived owner Caroline made us very welcome including her command of the English language. While the restaurant frontage & website does is not exactly imposing, once there you will not be disappointed. The cuisine, wine list etc was both wide with plenty of choice to suite all palates and standards…even for the youngsters. Not only was everything well presented with quality and initiative, the attentive yet not overindulgence service was just right. Well worth a visit for any occasion…lunch or dinner.

Our group was 8 people and we were treated fantastically. The food was a showcase of French cuisine and the restaurant was a perfect example of French culture.
During our visit we were attended to with care and consideration, whilst also supporting us with our limited French.
The host was incredibly polite and attentive, without being over powering. The quality of the food and drinks were amazing and I would recommend this restaurant to anybody passing within an hours drive.
I will certainly return with either my family or friends, and thank the restaurant team for the amazing experience we had.

We were here on Easter Saturday for the first time, enticed by the reviews of the food and the service. We were not disappointed.
Our online reservation was met with a telephone call to my mobile to confirm our booking, a delightfully pleasant touch.
On the night we were met at the door and shown to our table. The decor is superb, and the customer service exemplary. Our French is embarrassingly simple, but the hosts, which I guess are mother, father and daughter, did not take this as a slight and were quite happy to translate the menu for us, and even put up with our efforts to order in French.
The food was simply outstanding. We opted for the €42 menu, and had the duck confit hot dog and scallops for starters, the sea bass and lamb for mains, and the pavlova and creme brulee for dessert. All perfectly cooked and wonderfully presented. A decent bottle of wine, coffee and amaretto afterwards.
This establishment certainly lives up to the excellent reviews and we will undoubtedly return on future visits to Calais. We used to dine at Histoire Ancienne, but La Buissonnière is probably our new favourite restaurant choice.
Our only disappointment was that the restaurant is closed when we return to Calais on December 30th, but there will be other opportunities in the coming months.
Thank you for our wonderful evening, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Tim and Leslie..

Wonderful restaurant worthy of the prices offered... we indeed tasted quality products worked with care and creativity... this is the first time that:
- I eat a trilogy of foie gras with Lucullus, macaron and salmon heart with mango compote
- I tasted scallops served with the best black pudding I have eaten in my entire life... it was a huge crush to discover this combination that I would never have imagined!
Even those who don't like black pudding would have eaten it with their eyes closed by the spoonful!!
- a succulent dessert served with a nice touch of creativity... we don't expect this artistic setup
Really, this restaurant is worth the detour.
Well done to the whole team… Thanks to Caroline and Kenzo for the impeccable service 👌
And thanks to John and François for this culinary revelation 🤩
