I don’t always write reviews as I visit so many restaurants. However it’s an absolute joy to find such delights at 2400m above sea level. I came to VT thinking that it would be all about the beer and parties so I was a bit...anxious. I left VT with a broken tibia (sad event) and a different opinion. The dining scene is clearly making a move to cater for growing high-end market. The cooking here is classic French and for that I give the most applause. I like to see cookery skill on show and this was absolutely the case throughout. There were many highlights and these included a scallop dish which has to have been the best I have eaten and worthy of restaurants with higher grades. The hot and cold canapés were an absolute joy and what better than a truly tasty Bresse chicken dish :). The service was perfect and they catered well for my questions. The sommelier was spot on with his advice and took care over checking the wine, a point which is often overlooked. I shall return and I hope to stay in this hotel next year if my leg recovers (which it will). I have an upcoming tour of at least 5 starred restaurants in Europe in March and one in London on Saturday and they’ll need to work very hard to match this. Michelin need to have a think about 2 star.More

What a special night. We really enjoyed our evening at Les Explorateurs. Were in Val Thorens for a week of skiing and wanted to experience some special dining. Starting in the bar for a drink was a great way to begin. The way the staff...managed the flow was wonderful. We moved effortlessly from bar to restaurant and throughout the Explorer menu. 7 courses, but really several more. Particularly enjoyed the polenta, escargot, pollack, and chocolate dessert. But scallop and cheese course, also yum. Had two great bottles of wine, especially enjoyed the Rhone white. Lots of smiles from staff, who were attentive and happy, and us. Only advice is to give this your entire evening. Can't be in a rush. Also appreciated the hospitality of the shuttle service, since we were staying across town.More

Very disappointing and no vegan food. Pricey and did not taste good either. Very self-opinionated staff too. I suggest that you avoid.

This is a personal preference review. I don't like slow service, and this was very slow service. If you don't mind a bit of a wait, you'll be fine. Food was good, but we had to ask for wine / drinks. The food started coming...and the drinks menu hadn't yet been provided. There seemed to be a lot of staff, but it was a bit chaotic. It was a shame this restaurant wasn't up to par, because the hotel was amazing.More

Wonderfully quirky restaurant in a lovely hotel in Val Thorens. We received a genuinely warm greeting from all the front of house staff as we were taken up to the restaurant. Well spaced tables and friendly staff. Quirky decor with lovely little touches like the...mountain goat climbing on top of a pile of vintage Michelin guides. Food was excellent including the freebies - we had the Refuge tasting menu and each course was beautifully presented showing real technical skill from the kitchen. Wine was reasonably priced. The cheese trolley was a real highlight and the lady serving it had a great knowledge of what was presented. A superb evening.More

The food was very nice. we all liked our dishes. The head waiter was very accommodating and new what she was doing. The staff had problems remembering who ordered what. The staff forgot to present some of the dishes (we had to ask). We were...recommended a white and red vine, both very nice wines. My son and I would like a glass of Sauternes with our foie gras.... The restaurant only sell Sauternes by the bottle, I find that a little weird. We were recommended a Canadian sweet wine instead - I was not impressed. All in all a little too expensive when you think about the whole experience. I have problems understanding how they could get a Michelin star.More

The food was ok given the michelin star rating but don't expect anything inspiring. However we are totally disappointed with the service. They seem to only have 2 staffs to serve the entire restaurant. We opened a bottle of wine and the staff were just...too busy to refill for us and we have no idea we still have 1/3 of the bottle left after we finished the main courses and until we asked about it with the glass empty for a while. The more interesting thing is the waitress asked us if that's our wine. I don't expect a server to not know where our wine is while they put it aside themselves. I feel like I have to rush to finish the wine at the end while I didn't want dessert because we are full. This is a bizzare experience for the price given.More

First terrace bar/restaurant when coming down into town from the Croissant piste area. Expensive, but lovely. Has a 5* rating and includes a Michelin restaurant inside. I only stopped for coffee, coke and beer. Would love to pop in again.
