I had the great pleasure to stay five night at The Swan with my family as we visited a relative in the village. The accommodation was very nice with cosy, quiet and clean rooms, and a fantastic breakfast menu of hot dishes complemented with yoghurt...with berries and cereals, toast, and tea/coffee. We also had dinner in the pub several times, and were never disappointed. Food was great, the service top notch and the personnel friendly and professional. Actually, the fish and chips was by far the best I have ever had. Just fantastic. While in Kettleshulm we walked the beautiful hills around the village, and visited nearby towns by bus, which was quite convenient with the bus stop just outside the pub. All in all a highly recommended retreat for both dining and accommodation.More

I have been many times for fine dining, beers after rock climbing and straight pub lunch. There is a cosy traditional bar and snug, pub restaurant and beautiful fine dining restaurant. The staff are always welcoming and in winter the fire is always lit, outside...heaters if you would prefer. The Restaurant food is exceptional, expensive but absolutely worth every penny. We have dined as a couple and in a group, I can absolutely recommend the 'dine by candle light' experiences if you have the chance. The food is well thought out, often cooked on candlelight and a Wonderfull mixture of colours, flavours and textures.More

Food was OK but small portions and very overpriced wouldn't come back. It's a shame as the first part of the bar is really cosy but no space to host have a drink. It's more restaurant than pub. Which is a shame as its the...only pub in the village and its not got a local pub feelMore

My brother and I visited the swan tonight with an old friend of ours. He'd recommended it to us as he'd been there before. It was along way to come for us but it was worth it. I booked by phone about an hour before...arrival, the lady on the phone was very helpful, she put us in the small room next to the bar. On arrival we asked if we could move to the table by the fire in the bar area, no problem they said. We ordered our drinks while we looked over the menu. We only had a main each, the food looked nice , a little more expensive than we'd usually pay, but I'd see the positive reviews about the food. 2 of us had the 10 oz ribeye steak with chips, vine tomatoes and mushroom, with blackberry sauce and peppercorn sauce, my brother had the cod. The steaks were cooked to perfection ! And according to my brother the cod was very nice to. We decided to have a dessert, so we had a crumble between the 3 of us, coz we were stuffed. All in all a lovely meal. The pub itself is in a very nice setting in kettleshulme just near Pott Shrigley, in the lovely peak district. There is a nice bar area with a roaring fire, and a nice restaurant area, plus outside seating for the summer months. The pub also has rooms which is ideal for a short break. Finally the staff were great, very efficient and friendly to. Special mention goes to Jayne (with a y ! So not plain Jane). Who we enjoyed a good laugh with and helped make it a very enjoyable afternoon. We will be back I'm sure.More

Well handled phone reservation. Warm welcome on arrival. Our dog was welcome too though we needed to eat in the bar. 3 dining areas - large swanky new conservatory style modern dining room plus the olde worlde bar with open fire & another old fashioned...dining area . Food imaginative & tasty with wonderful fish choices. The owner/chef was evident & charming. The team of young female stuff were all exceptionally efficient & friendly- even when the boss went home they continued working hard & smart. A lovely eveningMore

consistently good food and friendly, cosy venue but some prices are now disproportionately expensive and will put us off booking in future. Some prices we do understand reflect the cost of produce at the moment but we ordered a cheese board which cost £18 and...consisted of five very thin slices of cheese, a handful of crackers with relish and a few grapes which shocked us all and £32 for a fish curry - a very good fish curry but.......!More

Fab food in a cosy little restaurant with 3 comfy rooms upstairs. Would recommend the heating to be turned on in the rooms though. Relied on the towel rail in the bathroom to provide some heat as the radiator wasn’t producing any! Nice area with...some steam cars driving pastMore

My wife and I had an anniversary dinner and stay at The Swan Inn. The food was excellent... Fine dining in a pub. My wife and I were disappointed not to have had a sweet but we were too full by then. The bouillabaise was...fantastic and my wife's steak was perfectly cooked. The staff were all friendly and polite, attentive but not overbearing. We stayed the night in one of the 3 well appointed and comfortable rooms and had a very tasty full English in the morning before leaving. We will certainly be visiting again.More

This place is quite expensive for pub grub but then this isn’t your average pub food, this is high-end restaurant cooking, set in very pleasant and friendly surroundings. We had just visited Whaley Bridge and had failed to find anywhere there that took our fancy...so decided to take pot luck on our way home to Manchester. Luckily, we stumbled across this place and were relieved to find that they were still serving food in the middle of the afternoon. I ordered the whole plaice cooked on the bone with tenderstem broccoli , a shrimp and caper butter sauce and chips whilst my wife ordered guinea-fowl with pomme purée, mixed vegetables and a mushroom and brandy sauce. My plaice was delicious, perfectly cooked with sweet succulent flesh falling away from the bone and a lovely char on the tenderstem. However, this was trumped by the taster my wife gave me from her plate. Wow, the Guinea-fowl was lovely and moist, the pomme purée was indulgent but what made it so special was the mushroom and brandy sauce. I am not usually a great fan of mushroom sauces but this was a mushroom sauce like no other I have ever tasted. It was so intense, almost meaty, but didn’t overpower the rest of the plate. As I said at the outset, there’s pub grub and then there’s food like this that you don’t often find in such establishments. We ate at The Hand and Flowers in Marlow (Tom Kerridge’s place, 2 stars) a few years ago and this food would not be out of place on that menu. Definitely one of the top pub meals we have ever eaten.More

Second visit. Found this second visit disappointing after the first being so good. The reason being, we found the food bland and a limited menu. Desert menu appeared to have been buffered up with ice cream which makes for a pricey dessert, looked liked a...quick fix but nothing of creativity. One of the ones we chose was ice cream in gin glass which really wasn’t chef quality. Mains bland and rather boring. Starter nice enough but prawns a bit tough. Prices are slightly greedy for both the wine and food for the experience and quality we experienced , example a £12.50 rose served in a thick chunky warm Wine glass is not really in line with the price scale. Ambience in restaurant is ok but could be improved with a bit of soft background music as all we could hear were other diners conversations word for word. This review is not to advise not to go but to provide areas of improvement. We did wonder if the kitchen had a different chef from our last visit. We wouldn’t rush back as there are other places that are much better but if In passing we would give it another try given our first visit was perfect. The serving staff are lovely.More

This is a great find, beautiful food, gorgeous tasteful updating of what must be a historic Ale house. Modern but imaginative and clean. They have a lovely tables in the back garden terrace if you only required a drink. The staff are hard working and...excellent -friendly but attentive. And the chef provided an encompassing menu for all the foodies and vegetarian requirements in this world .We had one of our party who does not like seafood but they had the duck and found it very good. We had the scallop starter, fish stew main and I cant remember what the desert was as the wine was so good. My son had the white chocolate crème brulee with strawberry sorbet, which looked sooo good. Well done everyone at the Swan, our holiday party had a lovely time and Henry (15 month) sends his love.More

My husband and I stayed at The Swan for a short break. We were really pleased with the whole stay. Our newly designed room was amazing - so comfortable, with gorgeous bedding, and a lovely roll top bath. Both our evening meal and breakfast were...of top quality. The restaurant had a buzzing atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend a stay!More

It is advisable to book as far in advance as possible, as they are usually very busy. When booking by phone, best to call after 6 p.m. as the manager is almost always there at this time (rarely before)
