Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We received a very warm and friendly reception in the restaurant, well organised by a lovely waitress with a french accent. Good refreshments and cake, hygienic environment and efficient service.
Additionally, I left my reading glasses behind in the Garden Centre and contacted Dan the Manager the next day by telephone. As I live a 1.5 hours drive away, Dan agreed to send my glasses through the postal service at no cost to myself.
Aylings Garden Centre couldn't have been more helpful and we will certainly visit them again on our travels.

We popped in for a weekday lunch and the cafe was not busy at all. We ordered 2 portions of scampi and chips and a portion of their pasta of the day which was gnocchi.
Considering that we were there slightly off the lunch time crowd, we still had to wait a good half an hour for our food. The serving of the scampi was small for the price that was charged. There was salad on the menu but we were not allowed to swap the peas for salad. The gnocchi was uninspiring and for £9.99, we were presented with a plate that looked insipid. When asked for some tomatoes to make the dish look more appetising, we were given 3 cherry tomatoes. I don’t think we will
Come back to eat here again. Expensive. Slow service.

Great quality food at a good price, every single visit. We like to try the different options available, and have never been disappointed.
Today I chose chicken, bacon and avocado salad; delicious, with just the right amount of tasty dressing. Add in a pot of berry tea, a perfect lunch.

Stopped for brunch to break a journey. Drinks came fairly quickly but after half an hour’s wait for food we queried, and were told by a member of staff that they had to go outside the cafe to access a new freezer and this had caused the delay. Strange as we had seen our food congealing under the heaters for at least ten minutes and no staff had left the cafe! Unsurprisingly the bacon bap and eggs Benedict were greasy and unappetising, will definitely not return for food.

We ordered from a girl who seemed not very interested . Waited and waited for coffee and tea then went up to ask how long it would be and we’re told she had forgotten. So then our food came out but no cutlery. Waitress came back with drinks but still no cutlery. So she then went to get the cutlery but there want any spoons in the box so had to ask the washer up for a spoon. By this time my soup was only luke warm and my warm roll was never warm in the first place. Only 11 customers and 4 staff. How can the service be so bad.

My partner and I have visited this garden centre cafe 8 times now over the past 6 months and have always enjoyed the experience.
The food is v tasty, fairly priced, piping hot and served with smiles and cheerfulness.
I was particularly impressed today when the lady who runs the cafe made a big effort to help an elderly lady in a wheelchair - opening doors, but also being chatty, kind, thoughtful to the needs of the customer. It was a little thing, something which just came naturally to her, but it was classy and selfless and I certainly noticed.
Every time we are back and forth due to work we will continue to visit. It's just a nice place to have a toasted sandwich, piece of cake, what I call "good, tasty, wholesome food", amongst decent, hard working people.
Would highly recommend.

Cafe in delightful setting in the Garden Centre grounds. We visited on a sunny day and had option of eating inside or out. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food freshly cooked to order (we had fish & chips), so piping hot. Very reasonable price.
The Garden Centre had large range of plants all well watered and obviously cared for well. The Garden Centre staff were also very helpful and friendly.
A very good experience all round!

Lovely little garden centre offers fresh fruit and veg plus wine, biscuits, gifts etc
Decided to have some lunch in the on-site restaurant. Won’t do again.
I Had the all day breakfast. Sausages were hard. Bacon was fatty. No flavour to food at all. Just not good.
Wife had jacket potato with tuna. Wasn’t any better.

We visited Aylings for lunch for a treat. Friendly staff and good service.
I had baked potato with coleslaw. The potato was very dry and would have liked some butter and less coleslaw.
My husband had the toasted cheese and ham sandwich. He struggled to eat it as it was too dry. His delicious chips saved the day!
Would be nice to have omelette and chips on the menu.

I stopped with my two dogs at Aylings this morning to break a long journey and can only surmise that an earlier reviewer hadn't been to the tea room for some time. The centre has excellent Covid procedures which is always reassuring and everything was very clean, including the toilets. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and we found a shady spot on a very hot morning. The breakfast was generous and tasty; good coffee. All made even better by the fact that Aylings is part of the 'Eat out to help out' initiative. Locals, you need to make a beeline here!

Despite purporting to be dog friendly we found dogs are not permitted in the restaurant but are banished, with their owners, to cabins outside the restaurant building. This is not made clear on the website nor evident until you reach the restaurant door. A little more clarity/ honesty is required in this regard. On enquiring as to why dogs aren’t permitted we were told it is due to possible allergies to dogs by other customers and/or Health and Safety Law issues. Funny then we take our dog into many other dog friendly pubs and cafes where such Laws are not in force. Clearly the reasons given are red herrings thus it must be a company policy issue. That being so make it clear on the website and other promotional material!! D.Earp 29/3/2024

Took my mother here for a birthday lunch today she is 89. This the second year we have been here and it once again did not disappoint. Freshly cooked food and very good value staff very helpful. Mother was surprised to be given a bottle of wine as a present a very nice touch and a complete surprise.

Very disappointed in the café. We went about 3pm, on a Saturday. Got there and it wasn't busy, but heard a couple of people asking where their order was, but didn't think much of it. There were only about 3 tables taken when we got there, so we decided to stay. We placed our order, for 2 cakes, and 2 coffees and went and sat down. We could see lots of drinks being taken outside and into the huts, but didn't know what was going on in them. We weren't told that there would be a wait. After about half an hour, with no communication, we decided to cancel our order. When we left there was only 1 other table, who also went and cancelled.
We definitely won't be back. The whole café was cold as well, and not helped by the staff leaving the door open every time they went out.

Lovely setting but it has a limited menu. The food was tasty, fresh and hot though. It would be good to see some more vegetarian options and some more gluten free cakes other than the standard chocolate brownie.
