One room no dogs, the other room is no children. Despite this, the staff were very helpful in finding us a table. Food was amazing and the beer was the best of the week - a very good pint of Jail Ale. A real pub too. Would love to live close by.

We have been to the Royal Oak on numerous occasions and sure it can sometimes have a wait but when you go somewhere that's popular and it has high standards that's to be expected. We've never had a bad meal here and the specials board is a treasure chest to behold! The waffles are yummy and my standard dessert. Enjoy.

This is top of the best for cosy pubs . Set in an idyllic village on Dartmoor . A welcoming smile from staff and regulars , plus a roaring wood fire . The food is totally delicious especially the roast beef dinner. My husband and I feel so relaxed and leave happy with full tums ! To complete - we... More

Food was good and hearty on a cold winters day. Service was good and the selection of ales was more than acceptable with the staff willing to let you try a few before you buy - always a bonus! :)

This is a lovely country pub in a beautiful Devon village. The food is excellent and of good quality. I would love to given a 5 star rating BUT was let down but the 1hour.15min wait for the food. The problem here is the pub has 2 sittings for meals 6pm & 8pm so naturally everyone arrives at more or... More

The Royal Oak is hidden of the beaten track but well worth the journey. Great selection of ciders, ales and lager along with food that could be classed as old fashioned pub food but it's great quality and great size portions

Excellent food as always in a real Dartmoor local pub. Normal range of pub grub on main menu, and some specials which seem to change daily. Generally quite large portions, so be warned.

Took a walk around Burrator and up across Sheepstor. The Royal Oak is only a few minutes away by car. Always glad to see the fire going, (even in the summer) It's not about the heat, it's about the feature. We pulled up a couple chairs and soaked up the atmosphere with a couple pints of local ales. A great... More

Of course we had the steak which as always was scrumptious portion size and appearance where outstanding. Staff and landlord very helpful and welcoming, the Gin selection is very impressive, we are looking at taking my parents there for my mums 75th birthday, my partner and I have never been disappointed with the Royal Oak

A nice country pub on Dartmoor, with very good real ale and nice food. I booked on the hope that they had a table for my son and I on a busy weekend. We turned up to a warm welcome, I had a nice pint of Jail Ale. the food was plentiful and very tasty.

Description
The Royal Oak Inn is a free house owned by Burrator Parish Council. It is situated within the Dartmoor National Park, in an idyllic location next to the village green in Meavy. The pub is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old. This is one of the few remaining traditional pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace. Some of the seats are pews from the adjacent church. And the wood fire provides a warm welcome on those cold winter evenings. If character is what you want from your visit then you could find no better place!
