Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I having stopped by a few times recently for drinks, booked for Sunday lunch. There were 4 of us and each had the Sunday roast. The pub is well organised for distancing, the staff were all super attentive, and food was just what we needed (We have had a few “go to” pubs in the wider area for no nonsense home cooked style Sunday lunches close recently). MOK ticks the boxes so will be back. You will need to book ahead.

We go to the MOK regularly and our children are always very welcome- their favourite thing is the fish pond and spotting trout in the river alongside the pub. Food here is excellent and there is always a roaring fire in the pub through winter. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Kids menu is good and the kids roast is enormous! It’s a small cosy pub so if your child is running around they risk getting hot food land on them hence why you’d be better bringing colouring etc and keeping them at the table! Ruby the dog is an added attraction too. Definitely worth a visit!!

Went with friends for Lunch, warm & friendly welcome on arrival.
There was a large party close by but no delay in service because of this. Nice Pub Menu to choose from & all very happy with out choices of Ham, Egg & Chips and Pint of Prawns which came with plentiful & tasty bread. Of particular mention the eggs were perfectly cooked and Prawns fresh & delicious. We also enjoyed a Bottle of Chilean Sauvignon wine and a Cloudy Cider,.
Throughout the meal all staff were very efficient and gave excellent customer service in a friendly manner, we really could not fault anything and all at a sensible and reasonable price, how refreshing it all was, would recommend & will no doubt return in the future, thank you everyone.

We arrived on a Sunday (often considered a family day) at 4.30pm. On arrival my 18months old was very pleased to see her 2year old buddy: they ran up and down the pub making a lot of noise in their excitement to see each other: and so we were asked to stop them running about and sit them down: we did what they asked, even though it wasn’t in the politest way. We understood it was a little over excitement!
We then sat with them in high chairs while they had snacks and played with some toys we had bought along: we spent at least £100 while there and as we left; around an hour later, who I assume was the front of house woman followed us outside to tell us we were not welcome there with our children who upset the locals and ruined their time there! They are not a child orientated pub were her words(even though they have high chairs available!!!!!!)
I was shocked and appalled by this attitude and would warn anybody with young children not to waste time going to such a hostile place! Apparently children are NOT WELCOME!!!!!!!

I visited the MOK a while back with some family members to watch the Rugby on a Sunday afternoon. After ordering some pricey drinks at the bar, I was told by the scottish landlord ("You haven't said please, young man. Try learning some manners").
Maybe he should follow his own advice. Having read some other 1 star reviews, it seems this behaviour is not a rare occurrence. Never gracing them with my custom again. Visit was a while back, but on principle I'm submitting a review, having heard other horror stories.

Had lunch here in Monday. Lovely old 16th century pub, so be careful of the low ceilings and small door. Nice warm fire and very friendly bar staff. Food was lovely and well presented. Menu was made up of traditional pub favorites and also a few unusual items. The mushroom and spinach baklava is highly recommended. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Booked for Sunday lunch, sat in the garden and it was great service, great food and a lovely setting.
So disappointed that we were charged £14.50 for veggie lasagne as the veggie alternative to Sunday roast. You don’t get any extra’s, salad, garlic bread etc because it is. Sunday. The exact same meal appears on the regular menu for £10.80. When I questioned this as I went to pay the bill, the young chap just looked embarrassed & shrugged his shoulders, he asked a more senior member of staff to explain and she just said she didn’t make up the rules and that there was a set price on a Sunday. This explanation isn’t good enough. You just cannot charge 33% more for a meal on one day of the week!

My friend and I went for a joint birthday lunch today, as we share a birthday week. The food was delicious. We were able to sit outside, despite the pouring rain, because the tables by the river (so pretty) were covered by gazebos or large umbrellas, and it was still a very warm day. There were lots of fish in the river, and beautiful dragonflies appeared when the rain stopped,
A customer noticed that I had a flat tyre and came to find me, and offer me help. The kind and friendly publican (Neil) pumped my up tyre (only 2 months old) before I left so that I could safely drive the 12 miles back to the garage near my home. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this lovely pub.

This was the only pub open in the village. Landlond asked if a table had been booked, and when told 'no' he sighed and said he would 'see what he could do'. On being taken round the side, there were many free tables.
Then he closed at 7:30, despite being the only pub open in the village.

Travelled down from s London, and was well worth the journey.
Shame that the rain prevented us sitting outside watching the fish, but the meal was great.
Friendly service just when needed, meal was huge but apart from some veg ( that went home in a tub) everything disappeared.
We had a variety of roasts, the pork was scrumptious but the beef a bit chewy. The veg were cooked to perfection, and as for the pale ale and bitter, it’s no wonder CAMERA approved. Even the icecream and cheesecake were wonderful.
Certainly would return.

We arrived to a vibrant busy restaurant and was ushered to our table by a very attentive waitress. The food being delivered to the other tables was well presented and inviting.
Try the venison or cottage pie; excellent value with just the right portions.
Clearly they have a top drawer chef on board.

We were staying at the Hop Farm campsite, this pub was the closest to walk to that was open. Lovely position next to the river, many fish swimming around for entertainment.
They had the social distancing spot-on with a one way system for the bar and all tables outside. We were lucky to have got a table without booking & stayed for a couple of drinks.
Didn’t eat here, the menu seems quite reasonably priced, if a little fancy for our liking.

I attended the Man of Kent with some friends. After my visit it should be renamed the “Men of spite”. I’m unaware as to whether this was a sales tactic to make lads drink their shockingly over priced bear or if they get a kick out of ruining someone’s night. On a serious note, I’ve been to the man of Kent multiple times and every time I’ve felt as unwelcome as a vegetarian at a BBQ.

Simply our favourite pub in the area, with friendly staff, a lovely river setting, great food, and oozing character!
The house wine is good, the food excellent, and the service quick and friendly. A pint of Tonbridge is also excellent!
The river setting is perfect as I love the water.
No faults at all - thank you Neil and the team. We've been visiting you for over 15 years, and now living locally, we can walk to your pub with our dog, Ruby. Perfect!

This place is a bit grubby in corners and the furniture and fittings could do with updating. However, the staff were lovely and the food was tasty and good value. Undecided as to whether or not I would come back though.
