Booked for a combined anniversary/birthday celebration. Arrived on a cold night, but were warmly greeted by the owner, and show to our table not far from the open fireplace.
We ordered our drinks, and after they had come (quite quickly) we ordered food.
Chris started...with the Pean and Ham homemade soup - a bit bowl, and a nicely warm section of baguette. He couldn't eat all of it, as he wanted to leave room for his mains. I had the Nachos with melted cheese, salsa, sour cream and bacon bits. If I had not have very hungry, it would have done for a mains! Both reall good, hot and filling.
For mains, Chris had a Cheesburger and fries, whilst I had the Sirloin special (blue), with peppercorn sauce. I can honestly say that it was one of the best steaks I have had - it was definately blue, but was tender, melting in the mouth, and was really tasty. The chips were thin chips, but perfectly cooked, with a bit of seasoning. Chris's burger was juicy, and properly cooked, and his chips were as good as mine. The only complaint? that he had was that he could have done without the sliced gherkins, but that was trivial.
We didn't have room for puds, but the selection seemed quite good.
One thing was that they were very hot on allergies - making sure that they were known and worked with.
All in all, and excellent night and meal, and we will be going back when the sister in law comes down for her birthday!
As a side note - the door into the main pub opens inward, over a step. Although there are signs indicating this, they are not noticeable enough for someone who has vision problems, especially when they use a stick to get about.More
