My partner booked 2 nights at the Ship for my 30th birthday surprise. We have both been coming to Norfolk all our lives, it’s a place that’s really close to our hearts so we wanted the stay to be special. We were not disappointed to...say the least. For us our stay at The Ship was flawless from start to finish. Our room was lovely (captains cabin), clean, cosy and nicely furnished with loads of character, the bed was really comfy and the large free standing bath was the cherry on the cake. Upon arrival we had a birthday lunch which we thoroughly enjoyed. We try to avoid eating at the same place twice when we travel but we enjoyed lunch so much we decided to dine at the ship again the first evening, enjoying local oysters and mussels which were EXCEPTIONAL. A surprise sparkler and “happy birthday” chocolate message on the dessert was a lovely touch from the staff. Breakfast was stunning, one of the best cooked breakfasts we have ever had in a hotel and we could overhear other diners saying similar. Completely out of character for us (and having considered a few other local restaurants and looked at menus online) we actually chose to dine with them again for our final evening meal of the stay. Stunning once more, we had tried most of the menu by this point and we could not fault it. It’s phenomenal food. The staff really do make this place, everything a good front of house team should be, right down to the small details which make a big difference. The atmosphere is lovely, always busy but not rowdy, lovely ambiance with a cosy feel and great music selection. Breakfast on the final morning before checkout was exceptional again, clearly standard practice here. Apologies for the long-winded review but sometimes it’s justified. We genuinely couldn’t fault this place and we wanted to give it the credit it deserves.More

Although this pub is lovely with a good atmosphere & the team here are very attentive, there were a couple of issues 1) we had purposely booked this restaurant because they said that mussels were on the menu, when we arrived there were no mussels...on the menu. Once I’d asked, after being given different menus, they confirmed mussels were indeed available to order but were nowhere to be seen on a menu - so, we all ordered mussels either starter or mains which were good (mine were gritty once or twice). 2) my partner ordered the burger, it was over cooked & unfortunately it didn’t look great - more like a happy meal. 3) when the bill arrived, I was shocked. £26.00 for a main course of mussels?!? Having been coming to Norfolk all my life, I thought this was super over priced. The burger was £19.00 - I’m happy to pay for food but this simply wasn’t worth it & it was disappointing as the staff were friendly & attentive. That being said, my father had the cod fillet which looked and tasted great. Perhaps we just ordered badly, but £26.00 for mussels??? Come on - that is just bonkers!More

As we’d not been here before thought we would try it out during Norfolk Restaurant Week - we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food from the set menu delicious. The bar area has a lovely atmosphere and dog friendly....We will definitely be returning.More

This place is absolutely disgusting!!! It all began with our arrival where we taken to the wrong room, finally when we arrived at room it was there were no drawers for clothing, one very small wardrobe. It was however very clean. Totally inadequate for our...needs. At dinner, our first bottle of wine (£39) was enjoyed however we ordered a second but unfortunately they had run out. He offered an alternative without telling us the price (£98) !! Totally unprofessional When we shared concerns with the manager about our room not being to our needs he said there were some larger suites available. However when we agreed to take a suite there were non available. We then decided to cut our losses and checkout only to be be told we would have pay for the nights we would no longer be staying. A total cost of £702:50 for night, lunch , breakfast and dinner!!! Do not book here!!!!More

Had a lovely meal here. The space for us in the bar area was a bit tight with the dog but luckily everyone was friendly. The food was good. We had a couple of oysters, 1 considerably bigger than the other, and my duck was...slightly over and chewy, the accompanying veg was tasty though, the steak and burgers were excellent. Again pricey but the whole area is tbh. I’d rather have eaten here twice than once at the white horse down the road. Would like to have had more time and tried the jolly sailor. The staff were busy and on occasion a little distracted but the place was buzzing and they were clearly in control. Would recommend.More

We are here last night. My mussels were fine. The sauce was very good. It’s hard to make a mess of such a simple dish and they did NOT. The staff were friendly and the service was good. There is a BUT. In the bar...there was loud musak coming through the speakers. We looked forward to retreating to the dining area to escape. Alas, the Muzak chased us into there too. I was about to complain when the volume dropped, presumably because someone had beat me to it. If I want to hear loud musak, I can find a pub which specialise in it, or go to a party. In the context of a general please-all eating place, it’s inappropriate. I think it’s the mindset of the younger staff. Loud intrusive musak is normal in their lives and they have become de sensitised to it. That apart, I would recommend their mussel dish. Good beer too!More

We stayed at the Ship in Brancaster for four nights and had dinner there each night of our stay. Our room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The food was excellent, the breakfast choice was perfect, and the...evening menu was really good. Thanks must go to Markus, Gemma, Valerie and Vicky for looking after us so well throughout our stay. We must return again.More

Visited the Ship for lunch while we were visiting Brancaster beach in Aug 2023. Bar staff were excellent, friendly and helpful with local knowledge. Food was great, cost not extortionate, all served with a smile. We would definitely revisit when in the area. Many thanks.

Popped in for lunch, menu was great, friendly service who Also very much welcomed our 4 legged (young!) friend too. Food was fine, not cheap But understand in the local area it is what the competitors charge too.. this is simply an opinion. Food was...nice, can’t complain, the only downside was that we wanted the rotisserie chicken which was advertised 12-5 daily, we arrived at 12:30 to be told it wasn’t on and not ready for another hour.. so may want to check this in advance as also says every day but now only do Friday- Sunday (seasonal)More

Quite expensive and the food was rather poor. Very greasy fish and chips, my son had a sirloin steak for £32 and now feels rather ill. On the plus side the service was polite and friendly. Maybe we were just unlucky. I think its rather...pricey though.More

Lovely beer garden and friendly service. But the rotisserie chicken was raw. And not just slightly undercooked, I mean translucent and bloody. I only realised this once my two little boys were half way through eating it. I did get a refund but they will...have more to worry about than a bad review if they don’t sort themselves out. And by the looks of things I’m not the only one unimpressed with the quality of the food.More

The room was in good taste - but that was all. It might be called the attic room - just couldn’t sleep just to hot / there was a fan that just blew the heat around the room - banged my head on the beams.../ I’m in no way tall either!! How two people could be in this room together at the same time the mind boggles… should had slept in the car!! Although Bertie had a nice bed/More

A lovely location with a great courtyard. However, we arrived for a family meal on a Sunday evening and came away very unimpressed for the following reasons: 1) Drinking glasses were stacked up on the bar as we walked in seemingly having not been cleaned...on time. This set the tone and many of the glasses on our table appeared filthy having not been dried properly. 2) The service was slow, many items on our order had to be asked for several times before they arrived (we had to go to the bar from our table to fetch our bottle of wine). 3) The food, whilst tasty, was very poorly presented and at £19 for the burger it couldn’t have looked more bland. 4) Our waitress appeared to be run off her feet and generally unfriendly. I suspect a lack of training was to blame. 5) Upon paying our bill and explaining we weren’t prepared to pay the optional gratuity we were met with an agressive “why?” from the manager who then didn’t hang around to understand our reasoning. This is a basic error when it comes to customer service and instead of wanting to address any issues he muttered “that’s really nice” only serving to reinforce our decision that the gratuity wasn’t deserved in this instance. 6) After he’d taken payment, the manager decided another muttering was appropriate, this time “see you never” and our lasting impression of the venue was cemented. The venue could be so much more than it is if the staff were properly managed but none more so than the duty manager himself. A surly individual who takes the approach that the customer is always wrong. We won’t be going back.More
