Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely filling Sunday lunch. We had 2 courses for £14. Giant Yorkshire puds, licentiate roast beef and veg. Friendly staff and dog friendly do we cakes at Bollihope to walk it off afterwards. Brownie and sticky toffe puddings were great too.

We went to The Moorcock following a long walking day. They were really welcoming, able to provide a few drink options when I said I was doing dry jan, made a fuss of the dog and overall just a very nice place. The food is...all fresh and the burgers/sausages are made on site - I tried the chicken parmo and it was lovely. Husband had the Cumberland style sausage - perfect after a really long walk. If we’re ever back in the area we would go back! Thanks.More

There was only a couple of parking spaces left behimd the inn but there is ample parking room on the main road side. Thr building has been increased in size since my last visit in 2005. We were directed to go through the recreation room...to our booked table. Drinks were ordered and quickly supplied. The menu was on the table. The lady waiters were very pleasant and helpful. The restaurant at 1330 hours was almost full yet more people arrived which indicated the popularity of the inn. Our meals were ordered and we were soon served with hot, tasty food. I recommend booking a table well in advance of your meal. No doubt, we will return for another meal.More

The staff were wonderful and friendly which made for a perfect lunchtime experience. We would definitely go...back again. Family meal planned for 4 generations of family to celebrate a 60th birthday and retirement. Gave them 24 hour notice that there would be 9 adults and 4 children. We arrived on the time we stated and was put in the back room that we...thought was acceptable. It took over two hours for the mains tho get to us. One child’s burger was cooked and served with the plastic cover Still on and one of the adults meal did not come. When we asked where it was, the kitchen staff said “it wasn’t their fault, they was in the kitchen and can’t be in two places at once”. Taking no responsibility and showing no empathy for the adult going without a meal. Yes we was a big party but a days notice is long enough. It appeared serve the locals before outsiders. The one who took the orders was apologetic but the attitude of the person working in the kitchen was not acceptable. We did not stay for deserts. Would not recommend it to people not localMore

Never have I been so quick to leave a review (still sat at the table!) came here for a birthday weekend away with my wife and daughter staying in the hilltop huts behind the pub and thought it would be rude not to give it...a try whilst in the immediate area. What can I say, so glad we did! The setting, the food and the service are absolutely top notch (don’t think top hats and bow ties think more like warm, welcoming and hearty portions at good value!) We will definitely return!More

We popped in on Sunday and had the Sunday roast and a couple of drinks and it was excellent. We went back tonight for burger night and again excellent. The staff are great and very good price. 😊

The moorcock has it's own short-horn beef from Baille Hill Farm and the quality whenever I've been for Sunday lunch reflects this, 5 star and about the best beef I've come across. On an evening visit on Wednesday, burger night, we had one each and...whether beef, chicken or veggie (my own preference) they are all very good and so many sides. Recommended as always, very consistent and reasonably priced. Thanks Moorcock.More

Given its reviews I had added the Morcroft Inn to my trip plan for our weeks holiday to the area. After a long walk at Hamsterley Forest we alled in for an evening meal , a limited choice of main meals ment we both decided...on the Steak and Ale pie, whilst the food was hot the pie was individually cooked in a bowl with a pastry lid which was dry and burnt in places and the filling was not great, the chips definitely tasted like cheap frozen catering chips but the veg was cooked well. We would not return if we came back to the areaMore

We were a large party having a late lunch. We were asked to pre-order which was fine and to be expected. Some of the food was OK. The chips were really good. However, some of it was really not good - fatty steak in the...ciabattas, lasagnes looked and tasted like they had been in the oven for hours - totally dry with masses of melted overdone cheese on the top. Although the staff were friendly they were not very forthcoming with asking if everything was OK or if we wanted more drinks. When the bill came it was not itemised - just a total for drinks and food which meant we were unable to check we had been charged correctly and it makes it hard work when you're trying to split the bill. The pub itself was lacking in atmosphere - a bit of background music might have helped. We didn't feel we wanted to stay around once we had finished eating which was a shame. A few small improvements could have made the whole experience more enjoyableMore

Another two excellent meals at the moorcock. First midweek when we all enjoyed burgers: homegrown beef, battered chicken..vegetarian for me. Then on the Saturday returned for fish and chips: very unfatty unlike lots of batter, and the chips tasted low fat, crisp brown well cooked...along with perfectly cooked cod. My friend chose steak and ale pie, again very lean beef and pastry lid recommend the gravy. The Moorcock is a good choice, family run, always a pleasant rural atmosphere. Thanks again.More

Me and my mate arrived yesterday evening after a long walk from Holwick where we met, on our return to our vehicles, a local farmer who asked us if we were stopping around for the night. We said we were looking for a pub with...parking where we could park for the night whilst drinking & dining in. The chap immediately and unhesitatingly recommended The Moorcock at Eggleston so we made our way there. We enquired on arrival if we were ok to park the night and were told we were welcome to do that. The Moorcock was busy when we arrived, so we took that as a good sign - particularly the public bar which is obviously a haunt for locals. We were amongst a number of people dining in the restaurant and the food was great - everything about the place was good honest value for money. We finished our evening in the public bar chatting with the proprietors with whom, it turned out, I had many connections. It honestly couldn't have been a better evening. We left this morning in glorious winter weather feeling fully refreshed. As well as the pub & restaurant, the premises which has a good number of glamping pods out the back serviced by an excellent and modern amenity block, so for anyone visiting Teesdale this place should definitely be on your list of places to stay, eat and drink. Thanks for having us. Iain Gallagher & Richard Dewar.More
