Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great meal with myself and the wife after reading some previous reviews, great food with background folk Monday music from some locals jamming which was very pleasant. Food was all home made and was of far superior quality to some of the intown restaurants and...well worth the taxi ride out. Some fresh and warm hand made scones as a wee freebie also a lovely touch. A very worth while place to visit if you are staying in St Andrews for a few days in a lovely quaint tavern.More

This is the second time I’ve visited in the last 6 weeks. I ordered the same thing again as it was so good and I’ve been dreaming of it ever since. The pecan & seaweed encrusted salmon is unbelievable! Please never take it off the...menu. The sides with it are perfect too. Every dish on the menu sounds so amazing!!! This is not your average pub grub. The Chef is special, please keep him forever!!!More

My brother, his two sons & I ate dinner at the Tavern after a day of golf. Mostly locals but they made us feel welcome. The menu favors sea food. Two of us had their ‘haddock & chips’ and it was very good. Would recommend...this place as an alternative to eating in St AndrewsMore

What a find. Great welcome from the moment I walked in. The owner, had great knowledge of his product and his enthusiasm for food and beverage simply shines through. Louise served in the restaurant with charm, finesse and friendliness. Anywhere that offers a huge garlic...scone as an amuse bouche is off to a flier in my book. The starter of king scallops and black pudding served on a bed of pea jus was sublime and the fresh and light Albariño only enhanced the flavours messing with my senses. The melt in your mouth steak pie which followed, with hand cut chips and deliciously presented seasonal veg- forced the procurement of a beautiful fruit driven Rioja crianza. Heaven, and two bites into the starter I booked again for 2 days later. I could have had any one of the desserts but plumped (appropriate) for the meringue, strawberry ice cream and Chantilly and Graham sneaked me an off piste glass of Aus Chardonnay dessert wine. The cost of all of this was ludicrously fair given the incredible quality of ingredients and skill deployed in preparing and presenting to guests. I waddled home incredibly happy. Seriously, a very high benchmark has been set for all local hostelries. Thank you.More

The atmosphere is very friendly. Scallops were lovely, the black sausage was cooked to perfection. Fish pie was great just would like to have a little more of the delicious sauce. Salmon with pecan crust was. A little underdone but was fixed quickly by the...kitchen. The portions were generous, I even left some! The mango sorbet and coffee affiliations were both well done to perfection.More

My wife and I were staying close by for the weekend, and saw the Tavern was walking distance, so we chanced our arm with a last minute booking. There was a function on, filling the main dining room, so we were in a seperate room....We were worried we might be forgotten about but it was the opposite - staff were on the money, very quick and attentive. I had the fish tacos and pork belly and my wife had the haggis and mushrooms and risotto. The quality of the food was unbelievable, especially for the price. Our two courses, two beers and a bottle of wine was around £100 and worth every penny. At the end of the meal, we asked if there was a local shop as we needed milk for tea in the morning. Unfortunately there wasn't, but after we asked for the bill, the bill came with a bottle of milk from the kitchen, as they 'couldn't see us go without a cup of tea'. If you're in the area, go out of your way to visit. If you're not, go out of your way to visit.More

I ordered the salmon coated with nuts and a herb butter sauce. The salmon was burnt black at the bottom. Fortunately my companion loves burnt food so he ate it. The rest of the salmon was very dry and there was no sauce. The restaurant...was busy and nobody came to see if our meal was ok. When the girl came to remove our plates I asked about the sauce and said that the salmon was dry and badly needed it. She came back after talking to the chef and said that the sauce was underneath the coating . My companion had the smoked haddock risotto which was divine. Not impressed with the salmon thoughMore

We had been at this restaurant several years ago and had wonderful meals. It was delightful to return this May and enjoy eating here again. The staff are all friendly and the food is delicious. The prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous....It is worth the 10 minute drive from St Andrews and very easy to find.More

My husband and I managed to book one of the last tables available tonight and had a fabulous dinner at this little gem, accompanied by some great quality live music! The food was amazing!!! I am a vegetarian and often have to settle for not...so interesting/tasty options, as the majority of smaller restaurants still seem to treat vegetarian dishes as second class. This was not the case at all at the Tavern! I had a vegetarian haggis wrapped in grilled aubergine with some red cabbage and cauliflower rice, amazing sauce and chunky chips on the side! And it was absolutely delicious!!! I am inspired to attempt to replicate this dish at home! The second veggie option on the menu was Mushroom and Courgette Risotto, which I am sure would have been as delicious as the dish I had. My husband had pork belly stuffed with apples, which he said was very tasty! Special mention deserve freshly baked scones with butter served here as an appetiser (in place of more common bread rolls)! Service was very professional and friendly! We will definitely be back again!More

I chose brie in breadcrumbs with beetroot relish and although the brie was tasty there was very little beetroot relish. I chose cheesecake for pudding and I was offered cream instead of prosecco sauce but, to my surprise, the cream was out of an aerosol...tin, sweet and tasteless. I never even found the cheesecake under all the aerosol cream!More
