Ye Olde George Inn is a delightful 15th century coaching inn, set in the heart of some of Hampshire's most beautiful countryside. The pub is a beautiful historic building with the River Meon running by the side. Delightful walks along the South Downs Way. Full a La Carte menu and light meals available. We booked in for a late lunch prior to ding a circular walk around the village. Staff wee helpful and asked if we wanted to reserve a roast in case they sold out by the time we returned. We were glad we did as the roast beef was fantastic. Lots of roast potatoes, the best Yorkshire pudding ever, roasted shallots and beetroot added a nice change to the standard veg you usually get with a roast. Really enjoyable.

Found this pub on a recent short trip to East Meon. What a gem of a find.!
Warm and welcoming atmosphere and amazing food. Provided strict adherence to the current Covid 19 restrictions, which reassured us each time we paid a visit. Ian, who we assume is the bar manager has an amazing repertoire and had us laughing out loud. Table service was excellent with visits to ensure everything was topped up and we were enjoying our food. Would recommend this lovely village pub and will certainly go back in the very near future. Dog friendly too!!

Was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. Very well organised as far as social distancing concerned and felt very safe.
The food was superb, sea bass goujons and roast beef ( medium rare) cooked to perfection and my partner really enjoyed her Nut Roast and Rum and Raisin creme brulee.
Dog friendly and we will return

There is a sign outside wishing everyone a warm welcome saying coffee is served. So popped in at 11am for a coffee with my Mum and husband. When I ordered two coffees and a coke I was told by an older member of staff “he thought he’d taken the Starbucks” sign down. He was most sarcastic no please or thank yous . I commented it was a little early for alcohol at 11am. Lady after me ordered 3 coffees I said he told me it’s not Starbucks he then commented he was fed up making coffee and the village needed a coffee shop!! So much for warm welcome. Coffee was served by friendly young man which was the only highlight. After covid and now venturing out don’t expect to be talked to so rudely.

Friends who have ventured out to pubs/restaurants over the past week or so told me they felt pretty safe as the waiting staff were masked and being careful when handling items, we therefore decided to visit The George for a meal. We were extremely disappointed that none of the waiting or bar staff were wearing masks and when the Chef walked through the restaurant he also was not wearing one. No gloves were worn and cutlery etc was all handed out as per normal.

We have been here a few times and it’s been amazing. We visited tonight and were totally disappointed! This was the place we dreamed of going to during lockdown but ordering the ribeye was a total mistake. I ordered it medium rare but it came well done, sent it back and waited 25 mins for it to be well done. The table next to us couldn’t eat their food as it was dry and deep fried. Had my steak been 20£ I would have accepted but it was supposed to be a ribeye and I got an overdone sirloin for 30£

When we arrived we were told we had not made a booking and that it was likely we had booked at a similar named pub in Petersfield. We looked at the booking log and pointed out our booking to the server who joked that we shouldn't panic.
The food itself was very good and the waiting staff attentive, however when paying the bill there were further problems caused by the same staff member who had been unable to find our booking. The bill was about 110 pound so we asked to put 80 pound on one card and 50 on another, giving a 20 pound tip. We were told we could possibly do this and that if we wanted to share the bill we would need to go to the bar and itemise every item in order to split it. We pointed out we were paying mote than the bill and offered to pay the exact bill but again were told we had to go the bar and list every item each family had ordered. A disappointing end to a pleasant meal.

Stayed overnight whilst walking The South Downs Way and found this pub to be understaffed, with tired, drab rooms and over priced food. The bedroom was poky, with an awful shower room, old carpets and thin walls. The check in on arrival was with a miserable young man who needs a short course in customer service. The restaurant was full, but with just two members of staff, were pushed to even take orders. The poor waitress was actually sprinting between tables. Don't take bookings if you cannot deliver on service. The food was reasonable but expensive. A cooked breakfast was not part of the overnight price and cost extra.

I booked a nights stay with my husband, a couple of friends and their dogs for a cosy New Years Eve and was not disappointed at all. On arrival we were welcomed and allowed to check in early before we went on a walk. The rooms were comfortable and stylish and clean and there are even some that allow dogs to stay over. We were shown around and invited to take the dogs with us to the bar. For those that are not dog lovers the restaurant area is pet free but we were able to dine in the bar area with the dogs. We had drinks in the bar on our return and then later in the evening a wonderful meal. The pub was shutting before midnight but they suggested that we join a New years eve party at another local pub which I thought was a very kind gesture. The food was way beyond what I would expect from a pub.....high standards, great presentation and so tasty. I slept the best I have done for weeks in the very comfy bed. In the morning we were greeted with a pretty much bottomless complementary breakfast. Lots of sourdough toast, pastries, poached pears porridge with fresh berries and nuts, yogurts and lovely conserves. We left needing to have another walk to burn some of the calories off! If you are looking for a wonderful countryside location, a cosy pub stay with walks right on your doorstep, a beautiful village and surrounded by kind, thoughtful and witty people then this is the place for you. I cannot fault it.

Booked a specific room for a special occasion, which the hotel was notified of. Was given a different one, with several conflicting excuses. Spent ages listening to the phone conversation in the room we should have had, through paper thin walls.
We were the only customers in the overpriced and chilly restaurant so there was no atmosphere. Asked the waitress if there was salad with the steak and she said no, so we ordered salad. The steak came with a mound of pea shoots. The salad was a bucket of pea shoots. We'd had enough pea shoots so we didn’t eat the salad. We went to the bar area after dinner, having not been offered a chance to order dessert or coffee, to hear the chef loudly complaining to the bar staff about customers who "complain" (we didn’t complain, we asked) about salad, only to leave it.
Next morning, our otherwise lovely breakfast had a pile of inappropriate pea shoots on it. On a full English breakfast.

The best steak I’ve ever eaten and his belly pork was very good too. Lovely friendly pub doing really nice food. Our waiter was the chef’s son and told us with some pride his dad also owned the pub. That pride was justified. We only had one course but the desserts looked heavenly and were beautifully presented. Definitely one to return to.

We got off to a shaky start with the roasts being sold out and the table in a draughty position but the staff and management did everything they could to rectify and moved us to a table which had freed up in the restaurant and found us some roast dinner. It was scrumptious. To be fair I’ve never finished a meal out, but this was so delicious, my plate was cleared. Even managed to have dessert as well. The effort they all went to was very much appreciated and we won’t hesitate to return soon.

Whilst on our way home from Portsmouth on Wednesday we decided to explore some of Hampshire's villages and stopped at this amazing pub for lunch.
On a cold and windy day we found the pub to be warm and welcoming and thefood is locally sourced and is wonderful. The best treacle sponge ever!
Unfortunately I left my scarf at the pub so we went back on Friday to collect it and have another lunch.
I can't recommend this pub enough and am looking forward to going back soon.

A great location in the South Downs ANOB. Looks great in the village setting with free parking. There are several dining areas; public and formal. The public areas need an upgrade but the helpful friendly staff make you overlook the shabbiness. Great range of beers but with selected range of overpriced mediocre quality wines. A small range of dishes mostly sourced from local produce.

I visited with my son for Sunday lunch at 2pm. Sadly the service was poor and we had to get up and find a server three times for various items and needs. Once seated no staff came back for quite a while. When food was served - no check back and the potatoes in the roast were cold. The food was nice but spoilt by the lack of care sadly. Lovely village but won’t be rushing back anytime. I would have asked to speak to someone but there were no staff to find !
