1 star because I cannot give zero, hands down the worst experience I have ever had in a pub. Silly mistake turned into a massive drama by ignorant, rude staff member who massively let her team down.
Went for lunch, 4 adults. We all ordered different items from the lovely menu and everyone thoroughly enjoyed our meals. All cooked well, fresh, quality, tasty and great value. The service was excellent, friendly and welcoming. A gem of a place - really worth a...visit.More
A really lovely Sunday roast. Excellent service and a lovely setting. Will definitely be back. Thank you.
Come for a roast dinner last week with my family. Had the nut roast with the cauliflower cheese and it was the best pub roast I have ever had. Will definitely be back!
The service was excellent, unfortunately the food was not. The beef was so chewy and the veg was undercooked and hard. The Yorkshire pub was set like concrete.
I thought £130 per night was expensive (we were visiting for a friend’s wedding) but at that price we thought it would be a very nice place to stay for the weekend. How wrong we were! The room was very tired. The carpets in the...bedroom smelt badly of stale urine, so much so that we had to sleep with the windows open, even though it wasn’t a particularly warm night. There were no toiletries whatsoever, except for a hand wash on the sink. Only three bent coat hangers hung in the wardrobe. The towels were hard and worn, and two were a dark brown colour (not nice at all). The coffee in the jar was old and stale and tasted revolting. There was not even any breakfast included for the price. We were booked in for two nights, but only stayed for one as the Golden Boar was so bad, and drove straight home (over 100 miles) after the wedding reception. I have never before come home from a hotel or B&B and washed every single item of clothing (including the unworn items) just because the room was so smelly, and of such a poor standard all round. Would definitely not recommendMore
Wanted an early meal after a lovely walk at Anglesey Abbey. Had old "good pub" guide which pointed us to the Golden Boar (we knew it would have changed hands, but once a good pub...) We weren’t disappointed, they served us at 6pm, evidently they...serve food early because the Americans like to eat early, they open at 5pm. not sure if they serve food that early. Menu was reasonably priced, and good old pub food... Scampi, burgers, steaks. We shared bang bang cauliflower for a starter, nice salad with them, but bizarrely served with a Barbecue sauce, sweet chilli would have matched them better. Maybe the Yanks prefer Barbecue sauce. All in all a lovely experience with change from £50 for the two of us.More
Came for a Sunday roast with the tried all the meats and the veggie roast and was all perfectly cooked. As a chef myself, I have always found it hard to find a pub that does a proper home cooked roast and this place does....The desserts were also delicious and the service was very good. We will definitely come back.More
Disappointed! We came here on Father's Day '23 with my Mum, Dad and Husband and had a lovely meal and Paul, the Bar Manager (I think), was very friendly and attentive. It was therefore top of our list as a place to return for my...Dad's 75th today. However, it was as if the place had been totally taken over. The service was very poor. We were told menus were on the table ready for us, they weren't, so we had to ask for these. Once we had eaten we sat for at least half an hour before our table was cleared, and it was only done then because we had to go to the bar to ask someone to do it. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks, despite the fact we were there for 2 hours. We had to ask someone to come and take our dessert order. We were not given a dessert menu and were told there were only 2 desserts on offer and one of them had sold out so it was chocolate brownie or nothing. Some of us ordered this with cream and some with ice cream. The waiter then came back to say they had no cream. Yes there were a few tables of people in, but I have seen it much busier so don't deem that a satisfactory excuse for why our experience was quite so bad and we had booked so they knew our table of 9 were due. We arrived at 1pm, only 1hr after the place opened so wouldn't have expected them to run out of food. Two options for dessert is also quite poor and different to what we had experienced previously. In the end we told them to forget about desserts. We complained about our service at the bar and once the staff had worked out what table we were, (we were the only table of 9 and even I knew the table number as we had been told when we arrived), although no offer was given, we asked if we could get a discount and the lady behind the bar agreed to take the one lot of drinks off our bill. This was better than nothing, but this was a special occasion, which was obvious, as we sang Happy Birthday to my Dad and he had a huge badge stating it was his birthday and this experience put a damper on things. Not once did any staff wish him happy birthday or make any comment about this. I appreciate this is not a requirement but it would have been nice and would have been good for customer relations. Unfortunately most of our party said they wouldn't return.More
Really pleased to find this lovely pub - landlord is really friendly and accomodating. Will definitely come back.
After seeing the Golden Bore website we decided to go for a birthday dinner. We were looking forward to having the Homemade brisket pie. On arrival the pub seemed to have a few customers in which we thought was a good sign. We were shown...to our table and given the menu. The menu was a slimmed down from the website, we were told the beef pie was on tonight. Great we thought that’s what we wanted. The food arrived promptly. Imagine our surprise to find we had a beef pie that looked like a value pie from a major supermarket with no recognisable meat inside. We had some asparagus that was starting to flower and some broccoli that was starting to go yellow. Definitely wasn’t the homemade brisket pie we thought but looking back he did say it was beef pie. Shame as we were told it was good there. Won’t be going back.More
Good food, good service. Went for lunch on a Friday, all had the burger, all enjoyed it too much for my wife.
Being a resident of the village it's so nice to have a quality restaurant/ pub in our village again. With a new restaurant team and Tash and Paul behind the bar, Friday night was a lovely evening, lovely food, beer and banter, long may it...last!More
Just been to this terrible establishment and had what can only be described as an Aldi Esque meal! It also felt like the food had a smell of blue plastic like it has been stored for long periods in a blue plastic tray and it...furthermore had a smell of dishonesty to it, like the tray wasn’t there’s! A very strange set of circumstances! My advice - avoid the golden bore - clearly named after their owner drastic Dave! I’ll certainly be going to another local pub where the food is purchased and stored correctly! I hate to say it but I also found a nasty looking piece of hair that must have fallen into my food through bad hygiene standards in the kitchen - avoid at all costsMore
