Visited early 6pm for a quick tea due to the fact it said the place was open on their website. We asked for a table to be told the staff had to ask the chef if that was ok ? Obviously it was. The food...was generic pub grub same menu as help to eat menu during the worst of the pandemic. We ate the food. The service was poor. No check back. And we were bombarded with flies in April. Very little atmosphere. Although food ok wouldn’t go again.More

We used to love this pub when it was the previous owners prob used to go once or twice a month this was my second visit since the new owners have had the place so that puts it into contexts how much I don’t rate...the place anymore….. anyway onto my visit we went for Sunday lunch for Easter we first of wanted drinks my mum wanted wine with ice in and I asked for coke they didn’t have coke! The wine come no ice the waitress then took the glass back to the bar to put the ice in rather than bringing a glass of ice to the table Like anywhere else would I asked for a corona guess what Non available! I thought blimey off to a cracking start! Anyway food time ordered prawns and mushroom to start the prawns on the started said they was in a dill sauce they was so spicy that my mum and I had to swap starters as she couldn’t handle the spice and even I couldn’t even eat them What If your allergic to spicy food there was no where on the menu stating the ridiculous amount put into the prawns fo make it unpalatable! The garlic mushrooms which never saw any garlic on a brioche toast which was soggy sent it back 1/4 Eaten as it was awful! Now for the mains…… pork roast & gammon roast DISAPPOINTING everything on these plates was over cooked steamed and just nasty!! The meat was tasteless and you don’t get much of it The veg was colourless over cooked and bland The roast potatoes was soft and soapy The Yorkshire pud was just like pufs of air no taste to them at all And the whole thing was smothered in gravy what if you don’t like much and would rather put it on yourself? I went to the toilet while I was here and it was filthy in the hallways outside you can see old ovens absolutely awful what a sight! And no antibac in the hallway to clean your hands!! Nice! Staff are young girls who have no idea how to handle A complaint or deal with people noticed dirty uniforms too all in all not overly great! Chefs need sacking as this pub is a shambles it used to be absolutely amazing and now it’s absolutely awful! Avoid! We ended up going to the coop buying food to cook as we was hungry from not eating our dinner In this pub! So disappointed for our Easter meal out! And we was still charged £58!!! Never againMore

Our waitress had a cold. She thought it was amusing that she had made it to work in a terrible state. I thought it was disgusting as she breathed over our party. None of the staff wore a face mask, including our waitress. After that,...I found the beer acceptable and the food similarly so. They have a small selection for vegetarians.More

We were really looking forward to visiting The Reindeer having heard so many wonderful things about it. We came on a Saturday lunchtime and unfortunately we were a little bit disappointed with our family lunch. Many items on both menus were not available. Even basics...like sweetcorn and sparkling water are not available. I appreciate there are some supply issues currently but with a supermarket over the road when would’ve thought they would be able to supply. The food we got was mostly fine and service was generally good.More

From 1960 when my auntie lived in Westborough all the way through the 1970’s, when I was a ‘Saturday boy’ milkman for the old Coopers dairy in Foston I have visited the Reindeer in Long Bennington, the last time being almost 7 years ago when...I persuaded friends that this was one of the finest traditional pubs around, and had an extraordinary wonderful evening meal on spec. So whilst travelling trough Newark, we detoured to the Reindeer for lunch. Wow, gone is the romantic garden and old traditional way, a refurbished ‘gastro’ pub now serves guests. Before coming to the food, I offer two real gripes: A wooden cigar box was placed upon the table, without explanation, and upon opening it contained what I can best describe as my woodworking apron from school days, with its several pockets across the front. In this instance when unrolled each pocket contained items for eating (knifes, fork, spoon napkin etc). This is not necessary, twee and not in the least covid friendly. Gripe number two, when we asked for condiments, each was brought to the table in recycled small glass jars, the sort that jam is served in as a single portion. We quickly discovered it is almost impossible to pour vinegar from one of these without getting all or nothing, and that sea salt and black pepper need the addition of a grinder if the contents are to be used. This aside the two course meal we both opted for, filled us, was not unpleasing and was served hot, although once the batter was removed from the fish, there wasn’t a lot of fish to eat. However with two drinks and with each of us having a two course meal (starter and main) I was able to pay the bill with a hit of my card on the machine, not bad! I wouldn’t detour again to go to the Reindeer, but I am sure there is a market for this kind of pub.More

Fantastic. Staff really great and service. Food brilliant, (chief hats off too you). Love the black pudding potato. You made my day. The little things bring to to the top. Cutlery and napkins come to the table in a lovely box, such a nice touch....All in all you should have more stars.More

Very important at the moment I felt very safe with the measure they have implemented for covid social distancing. Best of all the meal was...absolutely delicious for these thinking of going and I highly recommend try the chicken with creaming leeks and spring onion mash, great value generous portions will definitely be visiting again soonMore

We ordered two Pizzas they were delicious. We took advantage of the offer of two for £15. Worth every penny, so much nicer than the ones you get from Dominoes. I ordered pepperoni but asked its could be spiced up, this was no trouble at...all resulting in the nicest pizza I've had. Highly recommend anything off of the menu from here and in particular the Sunday roasts. Lots of our neighbours order these as well and all say how lovely they are. All food is delivered piping hot and on time. Thank you once again.More
