Our first, but won’t be the last visit to this exquisite, charming restaurant on the outskirts of Chichester off A27. We received a very warm welcome in this very COVID aware restaurant. The tables were well spaced apart, with large Perspex screens between each table. The a-la-carte menu had plenty of choice for each course. Each dish was beautifully presented, matched by it’s delicious tastes. The service was exemplary and not rushed. The wine list is exhaustive but pricey. A bottle of Prosecco was £30, but they do offer red, white or rose wine by the glass at £7.25 for 125ml. All in all, a very pleasurable and rewarding dining experience. A fabulous venue for that Special occasion. We will certainly be returning.

Our Sunday lunch here came after a very disappointing dinner the previous evening.
The location is unprepossessing, just off the A27, but this small restaurant manages to serve beautifully cooked Michelin star food, with attentive but not intrusive service.
Our 3 courses included local seafood cooked to perfection, alongside a beautifully cooked and presented roast duck main course. Our desserts of a lovely Chocolate and raspberry medley alongside a British and French cheese board rounded off our meal.
Although we were the only table for lunch a steady stream of takeaways were collected on a hot day which would have seen many at the nearby beaches.
Would highly recommend it if your in Goodwood/Chichester area.
The icing on the cake was the final bill, some what less than our disappointing 2 course pub meal the night before.

We visited Cassons on 19th June. The decor is very tired-looking. The staff were polite and friendly but the food was fairly average with, to my husband’s disappointment, rather small portions. I had the “scallops with n’duja & cauliflower purée and confit lemon gel and squid ink tuile”. It was ok but there was no confit lemon gel on the plate. My husband had the Selsey crab ravioli nero which he unfortunately described as “tasteless”.
For main I had the “rack of lamb, crispy belly, smoked sheep’s yoghurt, charred hispi cabbage, lamb fat potato, lamb jus” my husband ordered the “Iberian pork pluma , glazed cheek..etc”. When the waitress brought up our mains she asked who was having which dish and placed them in front of us, then left. We both looked at our plates and started with the meat, trying to work out the food on our plates, until it dawned on us that we’d actually been given each other’s mains!
Each main was pretty meagre. I had two small pieces of lamb, which were very nice but not exactly filling, and a small wedge of cabbage, one lamb fat potato, which was about 2” high and 1 and a half inches deep, and the “crispy belly” was not at all crispy and very fatty. My husband enjoyed his pork but said it was just too small a portion.
I decided on the quartet of desserts, recommended by our friendly waitress because frankly, I was still hungry, and my husband had the cheeseboard in the hope it would help fill him up.
The desserts were excellent and the cheeseboard delicious.
The food is fairly good here but portion size needs to be increased and the decor freshened up. Prices are pretty good for a three course meal but just a little extra on the plates and some attention to the decor would improve the place immeasurably.

This restaurant is really is worth a visit. The food is of a very high standard and the service and the staff made for a great evening.
I have seen some of the bad reviews for this restaurant and it saddens me that some people’s perception of good food and service is more about a full plate and a small bill than about quality, culinary skills, flavours and presentation. To put things in context, my wife and I do eat in cafés, fast food outlets, pubs, chains and anywhere where the food is good value. We also like to treat ourselves, when we can, to quality dining experiences. We have driven hundreds of miles to eat at some of the best restaurants in the country.
We actually ate at this restaurant many years ago and weren’t that impressed but recently many people were telling us how good it was… so we gave it another go. The good reviews are right!
This is not a stuffy “posh” restaurant. It is a welcoming, warm environment, with enthusiastic staff who made us feel comfortable and at home. The menu was what you’d expect from a kitchen offering quality, well crafted food to a high standard. What was presented in front of us, confirmed this.
A great dining experience, we will return.

We booked to visit at the end of our weekend away.
The venue is in an interesting location (we missed it the first time) but rang the venue and found we were 300 yards away!
Sunday is according to the owner not his favourite menu as it restricts them a little.
I started with a superb terrine. Main was a beautifully cooked duck with a lovely jus, my partner was equally impressed with her pork.
Dessert was quite sensational
All dishes are presented superbly with real attention to detail.
Extra kudos to the owner who does his job with real humour and care. He and his wife are clearly committed to the business and it shows in everything they do. He was a pleasure to chat to after the meal.
Well worth the visit
Toilets small, but clean and functional.

Having lived only a few miles from this restaurant for many years, and dismissed it as being a bit folksy and dreary, it took a chance encounter with a couple from London who were raving about it, to persuade me to look at their website. Wow - never judge a book by its cover! We had a fabulous dinner there last Saturday- fine dining at its best. From the exquisitely presented amuse bouche to the starters of crab ravioli in crab cappuccino and scallops with njuda, cauliflower purée and squid ink tuille and then mains of halibut and mussels and an Iberico pork selection and finally fabulous desserts.
The service was excellent and the two lovely waitresses even gave us a lift home as taxis were unavailable.
If I had one criticism it would be the washrooms- perfectly clean but absolutely no frills or luxurious touches.
Overall a great evening and one we are hopefully going to repeat many times over the next few months.

Wow! Cassons is clearly a restaurant run by genuine foodies who know and love their business and deliver creative, top class dishes in a non pretentious and relaxed way. A well thought out wine list, happy staff and a welcoming ambience made it one of the best meals out that we have had in ages. Great COVID measures in place too, which made you feel safe without being compromised.

Wow. We visited for a 60th birthday and we really couldn’t have asked for anything more! Wine recommendation was spot on! Food was flawlessly fantastic. Service was friendly and before our visit Cassons were so helpful and accommodating of our needs. They even went above and beyond to provide an off the menu dish for our fussy eating 13 year old!!

I can only confirm what a good many reviews have already said about this restaurant, it was fantastic. We hadn't tried this reastaurant before but it was for a special birthday occaision. Entering the restaurant was a great start, had a very warm welcome and shown to seats. There was a great ambience and the staff appeared very friendly. If I had a criticism, it was the menu was too good and it made choosing difficult! We were a family of four who chose different things and we were all happy to allow the rest of the family to taste what we had missed out on. No one regretted the choices made but equally enjoyed tasting the other dishes. The staff were brilliant, friendly and also efficient. We also felt that they treated you as special and this was proved to be the case because when after taking our desert chices I was informed that they had run out of part of what I'd had chosen. Given the current circumstances this is understandable but while the experience I'd had at another restaurants was just choose something that was left (not unreasonable though) the kitchen at Cassons had gone out of their way to give me what I'd asked for. I'd gone for the selection of deserts which was an easier choice and I was very pleased with it as each were delicious. I really appreaciated them fixing the desert for me. To say it was a delicious meal is only telling half the story, the whole night was a great experience which each of us will remember for a long time. I can heartily recommend this restaurant. We will be looking at returning again.

A booking made well in advance, based on trip advisor reviews, we were a party of 5, with no allergies, but definite likes and dislikes.
We were 30 minutes early, but got a lovely, cheerful welcome and our table at this traditional building restaurant, just off the A27 (if following a Satnav, the exit after the petrol station!j
Our two waitresses were attentive but discreet. We had beautiful food, we loved the started and exploring new to us flavours. One of us had the roast beef main and cleared the plate. She’s normally not a red meat eater, but love the tender pink beef. The other four enjoyed the Barbary duck and its vegetables. Beautifully cooked and so tasty with a malted wheat glaze!
5 desserts later, all constituents made by an amazing pastry chef, coffee with complimentary chocolate…..What’s not to love.
A range of good quality alcoholic drinks, including good wines by the glass.
No pressure to leave quickly, although the Sunday service is lunch time only.
If we lived nearer, it would definitely be on our agenda!

Some 12 years ago before moving away, we used Cassons when living in Tangmere and it was excellent then. Now having moved back into Chichester we have used them twice on a takeaway basis, once for the Valentines Special. This restaurant is as good as ever and even having to heat up items as per instructions the meal on Sunday was delicious with the Beef Wellington being the standout item.
We cannot wait for Cassons to open again for table service.

First class food with excellent presentation and service. Enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch without choosing the traditional roast. The menu was sensibly varied but with they resisted the temptation to offer too many choices. I hope that the chef knows how well the front of house team uphold her high standards. The best meal that we’ve enjoyed during our week long gastronomic extravaganza in Chichester.

Great special occasion restaurant, locally sourced produce and a Michelin level chef - amazingly put together menu and well executed. Wines courtesy of Four Wall wines and comes with super friendly service from a family owned and run restaurant, they have tasted all the wines to ensure match to food. A definite for birthday, anniversaries or just to try the other items on the menu.

An exceptional meal was offered here that was beautifully presented and delicious. It was our wedding anniversary and we were made to feel very welcome and were presented with a gift to mark the occasion as well. My wife does not eat fish and the food was adapted accordingly.
