Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Can not fault the food. It was absolutely delicious. I can see how it was won awards. The staff seemed busy as service was quite slow, but they still managed to be pleasant. It was just over 2.5 hours from arriving to getting the bill,...which by the time we had deserts, was just a bit too long in a hot busy pub. Would absolutely recommend but not for a quick dinner, it’s a full evening experience.More

Called whilst staying at HPB had great fish and chips plus an excellent pie. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The reason for only 4 stars is the service was rather slow 2 hours for mains and pudding, the sticky toffee pudding was not...great , and a question ? Do the waiting staff always wash their hands after stroking the numerous dogs!!!!!!More

Group of 15 pre booked. So easy to book and confirm menu in advance. Team so welcoming, attentive and friendly. Food - stunning in taste and presentation. Best Sunday roast out for many many years. Gluten Free family catered for well. Beef dinner was beautifully...cooked, roasties were so crispy and tasty (not oily) and the vegetable were so well cooked, not stewed like most Sunday dinner veg. The Signature Apple dessert was just sensational (won't spoil the surprise)! This is my new place to visit when back home!More

Our friend has eaten here many times and this visit was her introducing the place to us. We ordered drinks, the waiter was excellent. Young man but great personality. Placed our order, no rush. Eventually 3 out of 5 meals arrived. The meals were cold....The final 2 arrived,10 minutes later, again, cold. Three beef, lamb & pork. Never asked if any sauces were wanted. When we asked for mint sauce, it was there instantly. We ordered more drinks. We finished our meals and debated about dessert. Still no drinks arrived. Eventually we were asked if they'd already served the drinks, we said no, but cancel them now. It was too late. We told the manager about our disappointment and we pointed out, the food we'd had was delicious but cold Felt for our friend with her reccomendationMore

We booked breakfast this morning having had a good fish and chip dinner there a couple of nights ago. I ordered kippers with runny poached eggs and sourdough toast, my wife ordered pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, and 2 cups of tea. The tea...came out after a few minutes so we expected the food to follow shortly afterwards, especially as there were only 2 other table occupied, both of who had drinks on their table so we presumed that they had already ordered. Around 40 minutes later our food came out. Kipper was excellent but it was adorned with 2 hard boiled poached eggs (probably been cooking for the full 40 minutes), and 2 slices of toasted white bread - very clearly from a standard sliced loaf from the local supermarket. It was poor. Bill came to just under £30. The waitress never returned to the table to ask if all was OK, and seemed to want to argue when it was brought to attention when we paid. So it seems they do dinner well, but our experience would be to advise that breakfast is avoided.More

We had an evening meal here and our 2 coeliac family members were really happy with lots of choice of gluten free options. The gf burgers were very good. The chef also kindly made me a salad off menu to suit my medical requirements which...are very restrictive. This was the only time we all ate out on our week holiday as this was the only place within reasonable distance that could accommodate our many dietary requirements so big thanks to staff ❤ Also, daughter recommends the apple dessert!More

Suprisingly bland and unseasoned Big Apple burger with slice of raw tomato. The bacon arrived on a separate plate. The fries were unseasoned but were, at least, hot. Took 40 mins to arrive at £17 was underwhelming. Orange cordial was very weak but at least...they topped it up.More

Awful food. Overcooked and bland. No meat in the pie, burnt chips, and a dry burger, you get the picture. I was hoping for a country pub with a roaring fire, but instead i felt like i was eating at an airport chain pub, so...sterile and bright, i practically skipped out if the door when we were finally able to leave. The kind of place where you just cant be bothered to complain, as it wouldn’t make any difference and you know you’ll never ever return.More

4 couples staying in the cosy shepherd's huts. We had a delicious late Sunday lunch in the restaurant and the staff went the extra mile to dress our table for our celebration. Our breakfast was included in the price for our 2 night stay and...despite booking a time to eat we weren't expected on the 2nd morning! Our order took ages to arrive and was warm at best mainly due to 2 courses arriving together, if hot, where appropriate, and timely it would have been lovely. I really felt for the one waitress trying her best when 3 did the work the day before! More staff and organisation needed.More

I had mash with my meal. I specifically chose the meal because it came with mash. My point being that they do have mashed potato so I'm sure they would serve it instead of chips as they are very accommodating.
