Food very reasonably priced and really great quality. Main meals £11 each for steak & ale pie with mash and vegetables, and halloumi burger with chips. Meals were very tasty. Drinks a bit expensive, but I really enjoyed my rose wine - large glass £5. A good choice of local ales. Pint of lemonade / coke £2.50 each though! which seems overpriced. We spent £40 including tip with 1 main meal each and alcoholic drink each, plus a couple of large soft drinks.
Friendly service with a smile. Although non of the staff were wearing masks. We were happy that all the patrons still were (Tuesday 20th July) but would have been nice if staff still did when serving food etc. Service has mostly moved to ordering food at bar and going to bar to get your own drinks.
We booked a few days before and although pub seemed fairly quiet while we were there, it did look as if all the tables inside were booked up. Pre-booking gets you a table inside near to the bar, although more seating out back in the huge beer garden.
Lots of quirky memorabilia; car models in display cabinet and table made out of scooter near bar! and lots more. Also small classic cars out front which are interesting to see.
We were walking along Hadrian's Wall and staying the night in Chollerford, this pub was an excellent choice for us with tasty and filling meals and a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Staying at the nearby George Hotel I had heard good things about the Crown Inn so we popped in during the afternoon and observed the chef getting a large jug of the ale of the day in readiness for his batter for fish and chips. That was the decider for me, it had to be fish and chips for our booked dinner later in the day! Well the food didn’t disappoint, I can honestly say that the meal was fresh, good value and delicious, much higher quality than what you would expect as pub grub. Similarly the tiramisu that we forced our bulging bellies to indulge in was the best I’ve tasted, huge portion, thank god we chose one to share! Without a doubt the best quality pub food I have ever had. Friendly staff and a cool atmosphere, definitely somewhere we will return to!

We pre-booked a table and were glad we did as the venue was very busy and popular with the locals. The décor was very clean and modern and the food was very good quality and reasonably priced and large portions. They also have a very good range of cask beers to choose from as well as reasonably priced bottles of wine. All of the staff who served us were really friendly and helpful and we would definitely eat here again if in the area.

Sadly our first choice for lunch wasn’t available as we were passing The Crown Inn we decided to call in the fact it was empty should have indicated it wasn’t that popular locally the young man behind the bar was welcoming before we had chance to decide to stay or go he’d taken a drinks order and served them up. As it was empty we had a choice of seating first table we sat at we were inundated with flies we moved further inside but sadly the flies followed us we asked the barman if they had anything to get rid of the flies his answer we aren’t allowed to use anything. Choice of meals was basic pub food we ordered Scampi meal and mac and cheese meal. The chips were awful with the scampi skin on is OK provided they aren’t cooked in oil which leaves them limp and greasy. The accompanying salad was fresh ad looked good however I wish they would ask if I want dressing because I can’t stand honey and mustard dressing which was all over this salad so sadly it was left. The tartare sauce was tasteless and the garden peas bland. The Mac and cheese didn’t redeem the meal it was in a thin sauce not much taste and untoasted garlic bread not worth the nine pounds. Regarding the price this pub didn’t have the eat out to help out offer so all food was full price also we weren’t asked for track and trace details it was like this place hadn’t been included in the pandemic and was still operating pre lockdown rules. We ordered a pudding between us sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream the ice cream ok toffee sauce ok pudding was a piece of cake no dates or fruit in it. All in all lunch didn’t cost a fortune it would have been less if they were in the scheme. However they need to address the fly problem, some of the chairs and table legs need a good dusting which looks as though furnishings aren’t wiped down after being used ask about the salad dressing or serve separately. It’s a personal thing with the chips maybe others enjoy them but not for me so probably won’t eat here again. This is my opinion only and reflects my experience on the day

We emailed on Sunday morning for a table that lunchtime, when we hadnt heard anything by 12 noon my husband called and specifically asked if we could take the dog, which was fine. When we got there, there was a sign on the dorr saying assistance dogs only, we went in and were told no they wouldnt allow the dog and denied say that it would be ok, despite the fact I said precisely when the call was made and that I had over heard. No apology! rather than walk out, which was my inclination, I took the dog home, a 40 minute round trip. Returning to the Crown, no apology, nothing! we ordered, no starters available. I ordered turkey, my husband pork. I asked for a decaffinated coffee, not availble. Our meals arrived, really lovely vegetables hidden to make a mound in the middle of the plate, over cooked almost burnt yorkshire, soft roast potatoes and universal gravy, also not over warm, but the worst part was the turkey which was so over cooked it fell to bits when I put my fork into it, pork ok, not great. I carried on being positive as we hadnt been out for Sunday lunch for a long time and my husband was enjoying a good selection of real ales. I was driving and only non alcolholic beer option was Peroni. We ordered dessert from an extrmely limited list, the chocolate and amaretti tart was a bought in bland offering with a squirt of cream and a strawbeery, poor value for money at £6. My apple crumble was ok, although the custard was very running, more a creme anglaise. Asked for bill, again no apology or any sign of acknowledging the hassle they has caused me. This followis on the back of my husband walking there a few weeks ago arriving at 1 minute after 2 and being told that he couldnt have any food, despite being a walker and the pub being miles from anywhere else. We will not be going again as I believe it is some of the worst customer service and indifferent food I have had in a long time!
As for Covid precautions, no masks warn by staff, one small bottle of sanitiser on bar, poor table hygiene. Poor
and remember in the middle of Northumberland, where every other visitor has a dog, they are not allowed!

Nice enough pub, with somewhat bland tasting food. Some beer unavailable. One drink order was delivered wrong twice. Couldn’t be bothered to send it back again. Don’t sit on right side (on entry) of the pub or you’ll hear hand dryer from the women’s toilet throughout. Overcharged for one meal, when I mentioned it the server immed said it would be changed to correct price (no apology, it seems she knew it was wrong all along).

Visited this pub while staying in Kielder forest after reading the reviews on trip advisor. Although it was a good 40 minute drive from where we were staying in Kielder the drive was definitely worth it.
We enjoyed the food and the welcome so much we visited again a few days later, especially as it had the added bonus of sky sports and our team were playing.
Due to covid there is table service on both drinks and food.
The food is proper home cooked grub and everything our party sampled was amazing. Over our two visits our party of 4 had, fish and chips, pie and chips Sunday lunch and the beef sandwich with chips. The chips are proper home made chips and the gravy is amazing very very tasty.
Its obviously a local pub for the village as the majority of people in there over our visits all seemed to know each other.
It would be worth moving to this village just for this pub alone.

I might be slightly biased, as I've eaten here a number of times, but some changes during lockdown have really raised the bar (pun intended!)
It's had a makeover inside, the garden to the rear has been extended to give more socially distanced space for eating/drinking, with a fab new "mood-lit" corner pergola seating area.
I've always enjoyed the Sunday lunches here, but some changes introduced by the latest chef have made them even better.
Veg was cooked to perfection (still with bite and not overdone or soggy. Beef was tender, and the gravy was to die for. I could have had a bowl of it as a side dish.
Cannot recommend highly enough.
My son (and his mates) had other choices from the menu, and were all equally impressed (and hogged the pergola seats!)

We stayed at the George Hotel and made the 10 minute walk to The Crown Inn and it was worth it!
The food and service were fantastic and the gentleman server was so accommodating and made a spicy mayo for us which wasn’t on the menu but his above and beyond service was greatly appreciated.
We ordered the chicken tikka flatbread with chips and the 8oz steak with extra Mac n cheese. They were large portions so great value at approximately 17 pound a meal. I opted for apple bread and butter pudding with custard. All dishes were tasty, well presented and served within 20 minutes. Our final bill was 54 pound including two beers and one lemonade. Great value and great atmosphere

What struck us about this place was the chatter and laughter. We were staying in the village and did the touristy thing of popping in to the local. There was a warm welcome to a pleasantly redecorated, but still traditional pub with good beer and as it turned out, good pub grub too. The people, mostly locals, seemed to be bearing the current troubles with humour, as did those running the place. There is a good community vibe in the village as the local shop is run by volunteers. A local to envy.

We visited the Crown several times during a two week stay at East Farm House after it was recommended to us by a local walking his dog, I’m a great believer while away in eating where the locals eat. What a find, the food was exceptional particularly the Steak and Ale pie and the Sesame Chicken but that doesn’t take anything away from the other meals, without exception they were all lovely.
The young staff were very friendly and attentive particularly Anne and Cat (I think, I’m dreadful remembering names) and the very tall landlord took the time to chat about his strange small cars. The pub has a car theme with some real quirky things to look at.
Only slight criticism would be the older lady could learn from the others and try not to look so angry. I’ve no doubt like the others that she is also lovely but she is very abrupt.
Overall this pub is nothing short of Fabulous and we will certainly return

I do not chuck around phrases like this Willy Nilly, but this was by far, THE best fish and chips that I have ever had the pleasure of basting my taste buds with, and I live by the coast that is abundant with allegedly “The best fish and chips” but they do not come close to this place…
The batter on the fish had tenderly incorporated the local ale of the day. It was crisp and golden on the outside and soggy and stodgy on the inside.
The chips were irregularly shaped, with varying thickness, and crispness, all the tell-tale signs of a lovingly homemade chip.
Even the mushy peas, despite looking like the drunken unprotected night of passion between a pea and a cauliflower, was delicious!
And almost most importantly it was a deliciously generous portion - TWO portions of fish!! Just what a girl of my stature needs after walking 17 miles of Hadrians rather long but impressive wall.
The staff were really friendly, welcoming obvious “out of towners” like their own and the pub had a great atmosphere, clearly the hub of the community!!
I cannot recommend enough. I pity the fools who don’t visit here…Hadrian definitely would have….

We had a lovely Boxing Day lunch with my daughter and husband and 17 month old grandchild.
The table was all ready when we arrived complete with high chair.
Lots of choice especially given they were only open for lunch. Promptly served, all our requests including GF and swops to chips and salads with meat easily accommodated. Between us we had lamb shanks, roast pork and steak and ale pie. All good quality and plentiful.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Recommend.

We were staying in the area, on the recommendation of a friend who used to live in Humshaugh we booked for an early evening meal. On arrival the place was thriving with walkers, tourists and locals. The menu, including specials, was ample and interesting enough to tempt us. The food arrived hot and was extremely tasty. I would suggest you book and get there early because as the evening progressed the specials were quickly depleted. Parking is on the street.
In summary, a lovely local pub with great service and really good food.

Warm welcome from this lovely pub . Very good with new Co-vid restrictions , lots of sanitisers, good distancing and adhering to table only service . We booked a table in advance. The food was really nice , home cooked, good portion sizes . The steak and ale pies with mash n veg were gorgeous, packed with tender meat and the pie crust melted in your mouth . Other members of our party had the fish n chips , and said they were excellent . Very reasonable prices too. Definately recommend.
