Lovely, friendly staff, delicious fish soup, scallops, John Dory and lobster! Fish is pricey but caught by their boat and beautifully presented and also delicious. Well worth the money and attentive, knowledgeable staff with a view to die for! Highly recommended. You won’t be disappointed. If you don’t eat, then have a pint on the wall, looking at the boats with the sun on your back!

Had a lovely lunch at the Griffin over the bank holiday weekend with our good friends. We went specifically for their seafood and was not disappointed. After we were shown to our table, our server walked us through the fish specials, in great detail, explaining how the dishes were prepared. The four of us had john dory ceviche, mussels, and fish cakes for starters, followed by halibut, john dory and fish pie. The food was delicious, yes a bit pin the pricey side - but life is all about experiences - and we certainly had a lovely lazy lunch here making more great memories.

First and foremost the waiting staff were phenomenal, they were informative and upfront about which ingredients were local and which weren't. We saw them take the time with every table, which I really appreciate. We ordered scallops and oysters for starters and gurnard and John dory for mains. All were great! The sauces were all delicious, my only complaint would be the John dory wasn't itself special, but the sauce was cracking. The prices are a bit high, but it's a seasonal location and the food is good, we left satisfied. If we come back to the area, we would come back to eat here.

This restaurant is in a great location and has little competition locally. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the specialist fish dishes it offers. The food is well cooked and flavoursome. HOWEVER, the portions are very small, the pie is little more than a meat sauce in a bowl with puff pastry placed on the top, the lasagne was ok and the chicken curry pretty good. The salad along with the relevant dishes was no more than an a spoonful of dressed leaves. Our vegan friends ordered the vegan crumble which consisted of a ramiken of veg with seeds on the top, a few potatoes and a spoonful of salad. We were given a 10% discount on our bill by way of recompense. A very disappointing meal and still hungry at the end.

Thank you for your review Ian. Even though we specialise in seafood, we do want customers to enjoy the classic menu too and we have taken on board your comments in regards to portion sizes. The kitchen is in the process of adapting these dishes to offer larger portions, so thank you for your review but at the same time we apologise that you were disappointed with your meal. We hope you will visit again for a more pleasurable experience. Perhaps for others reading reviews and responses, there are two other establishments within walking distance in Dale, which would be a better option for those wanting vegan options.

I’ll try to keep this simple. Don’t bother wasting your money here! There are lots of lovely reviews yes, that drew me in too. But pay attention to the bad ones…they tell a more accurate tale! This place is just trying to be something it’s not. The prices are ridiculous for very very mediocre pub grub. If you’re going to jump on the ‘gastro pub’ bandwagon…and charge upper scale prices… you better have the chefs to back it up. You don’t. Put quite simply. You just don’t. The chicken pie is reheated rubbish. It’s fine to prepare it in advance, that’s the nature of the business. But you need to use different cuts of meat. Reheating chicken breast, is like basic food know how isn’t it. Don’t do it!! It was rubbery and inedible. I ate the (frozen) chips, the puff pastry top, and a couple of pieces of chicken. When I complained about the pie…. The waitress simply responded with…’but you’ve eaten half of it’ So in conclusion…. You need better chefs, and more training for your waiting staff

Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. We are sorry to hear about your recent experience and can only apologise how the staff handled it in our absence. Simon and I were away last week and I am really sorry you had an awful experience. We are very rarely away! Simon is the chef and I run the front. We will absolutely look into this matter with the team and what went wrong in our absence, as you can imagine we are unhappy that our 14 years of hard work could easily be destroyed in one week... We do hope that you will come back so we can give you a true “Griffin” experience and if you do please let me know so we can give you a voucher towards your meal. Again sincere apologies for your experience.

We visited The Griffin whilst staying in Broadhaven - it’s only 15 mins drive away and well worth it! The food was superb! We had the moule starter, cod loin, halibut and plaice - all of us had wonderful meals! The service by Sian was excellent too! You must visit, you won’t regret it!!

Dale is a quiet relaxing village in a lovely location and The Griffin is a stone's throw from the sea. It has a very good reputation as a seafood restaurant so I went with high expectations, unfortunately the food was quite underwhelming. We had the fish pie, chips with a spattering of tasteless vegetables. The pie was OK but at £24 I expected much better, I would guess that it cost about £4 to make; it was served too hot to eat so I had to eat the few chips before it cooled down. On the positive side, service was good and the staff friendly and cheerful.

Lovely pub, friendly staff, gorgeous location, but the food was a disappointment. Or rather the descriptions were misleading leading to disappointment! What was described as an octopus starter turned out to be a chunk of pork sitting on top of a few 10p sized slithers of overdone octopus. Different fish were named as the main course choices with no special mention of sauces so naively we assumed that the fish would be allowed to be the star. Sadly a thick orange flavoured sauce is not a marriage made in heaven with a delicate fish like gurnard. For well cooked food I would not baulk at the cost but this was extremely mediocre cooking for the price. Perhaps it was the regular cook's day off.

Food is expensive for what it is! We were told it specialised in seafood, but unless you want to spend £65 on lobster which is an overrated food anyway, all the other fish is steamed with a mix of sauces. Starter, main and 1 bottle of wine plus they add a 121/2% service charge, admittedly they say it’s discretionary. The bill was £130 for two. View? Yes across the harbour to oil refinery! I don’t mind paying for quality, this was very average.

Fantastic fish restaurant! If you are in the Dale area make the effort to visit The Griffin - you will not be disappointed. Freshly sourced fish beautifully prepared and served in a wonderful relaxed environment. We sat in the sun on the outside terrace on a Friday lunchtime and were well served by the friendly and welcoming staff. As starters we had the scallops and the crab fish cakes - both of which were delicious. For the main course we both chose the Gurnard dish which was beautifully cooked and again delicious. We will certainly be back on our next visit to the area!!

Incredible seafood, beautiful views, cosy pub and exceptional service. Expertly cooked local produce - yes, it’s not the cheapest food, but I’m still thinking about the cod, two days later! Worth every penny. Sian and her team make you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Just lovely!

Our last visit was in 2018 where I gave it 4 star rating. Is the legacy of covid now the problem or overconfidence that this place has gained a reputation for good food and they have let go the reigns. 4 of us went for an evening dine out, two of our number were experience chefs and had run pubs for many a long year. Here, management have tried to squeeze a quart into a pint pot and ruined the ambience completely in the process. We had to move tables (and we were lucky) as it was too close to an open door. The Welsh rain was coming in, it was cold and the place was rammed with bodies everywhere, even in the passageways. In the bar, there were too many tables for its size and the noise was horrendous. The staff did the best they could under the circumstances. The drinks and food came on time, but the food quality overall was classed by our friends as 'overpriced mediocraty' This opinion was delivered after a detailed de construction of each dish we had, along with the approximate cost of each one to produce. This place has....had great potential and I don't know if the management/ownership is the same as it was in 2018, but whichever way you look at it, things have gone downhill. We may come back, but it won't be in the summer thats for sure, when things are a little quieter.

Great location. Food was excellent as it always is. I wish the sauce with the cod loin came in a jug so that I could drink what was left. Serving staff were friendly, helpful, attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu. My only criticism would be the portion sizes. I've been a huge fan of The Griffin for many years but have noticed (as have others) that the portion sizes are getting smaller, year by year.

I had the cod in white wine sauce, with a side of new potatoes and two spears of asparagus. Others had food from the classic menu. I would definitely recommend their seafood, and this is where they shine. However, their portions have decreased significantly over the last ten years, while prices have skyrocketed. For this I've given them 4 stars. But the food was delicious, but only an occasional treat for us now, whereas previously we would eat here around 3 times each stay in Dale.

Very disappointing considering all the hype, if you are looking for oven style chips and over battered over priced fish at £22 a portion then you will be ok.We were so looking forward to this evening however it wasn’t what we were hoping for. As many we work very hard and to pay over £140 for 2 fish and chips a vegan crumble and a cod loin (which was the only satisfactory dish ) a few drinks seemed very pricey for a pub style dinner. Good luck to the Griffin obviously not the place it used to be , save your money and go to the local chippy at least you will get what you pay for.
