We stayed here for one night and had dinner and breakfast. Food wasn’t bad. The room was clean as was the bathroom. The lighting in the room is very dim which is lovely until you want to use the mirror. I appreciate there’s a bright...mirror in the bathroom but has a sink inbetween so not great for make up. The towels really smelt of bleach/chlorine and the lilys are way too strong downstairs, please consider milder flowers as lilys are extremely strong especially in an area where food is being served. No toiletries in the room that are not stuck to the wall. Some staff very friendly, others much less so. Not a bad place but would stay somewhere else next time for the money charged.More

At the end of a tiring day (delayed for an hour on the M25, kitchen closed at our chosen BnB etc) we were happy to find ourselves cocooned in the comfortable interior of this charming restaurant. Converted from a characterful (Georgian?) former village house, the...interior is full of nooks and crannies, plush velvet banquettes and cosy lighting. Just perfect for a rainy Winter’s evening. We enjoyed our mains of Dirty Burger and Cheese Burger - it was the kind of comfort food we needed. Desserts were a lovely apple and damson crumble and a selection of icecreams (ginger, vanilla and honeycomb). Service was professional and welcoming, and our waitress, Sienna, kindly moved us to a round banquette table on request as we really wanted to experience that velvet upholstery! We had a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant. Dinner for two - 2 courses each, 2 alcoholic drinks and one small sparkling water - £60.More

A great location very busy but very pricey for about average food. The menu looked tempting but some specials not available. I had the nourish bowl and was happy with my meal but the others were a bit disappointed. Wine horrendously expensive

Visited for Sunday lunch. The roast beef was lovely but it should be served with gravy on the side. Not everybody likes their meal smothered in gravy and we couldn't have to ask for gravy on the side. Spoilt my meal somewhat. I also don't...like that I can't have my gin and tonic how I like it. Four ice cubes and a bottle of tonic on the side. A bottle of tonic lasts me three gins so why would I want it served with tonic from the sparkler? I am not going to have my tonic served in a separate glass to pour it in myself either as most of it would end up over the table due to my arthritic hands. Bottles I can manage, transferring drinks from one glass to another, I can't. Today I had wine instead. Its not a "green thing" as it has previously been described by another pub in this chain as glass bottles are recyclable. It is a cost thing. Next time I visit a pub owned by this chain I will take my own tonic in a recyclable glass bottle due to my arthritis and wanting to know what's in my drink. All you're doing is alienating guests who prefer bottles of mixers.More

We visited The Bell at Aston Clinton for a meal during the Christmas period. Our experience was made super special by our waitress Sienna, who handled us and the other busy tables in her area with calm efficiency. The food was very good too. We...shall definitely be recommending The Bell to friends and family due to the fine experience. Well done all!More

Best roast dinner I’ve ever had! I’ve eaten here a few times and the food has always been outstanding. Their menu is varied with a lot of choice. The staff have mastered the right balance between attentive but not too intrusive. Nothing is ever too...much for them, and you are greeted warmly as soon as you walk in. This may not be an important point for many, but I always appreciate good decoration. The decor adds to the ambience. It is very inviting and warm, exactly what you want from a pub. Definitely would recommend to friends and family!More

A group of 6 of us visited on Saturday 30th December. Welcome was friendly and service was professional and efficient. Main courses came out quickly and were excellent. Unfortunately desert was a little disappointing. One of us had the pavlova and after a few bites,...it was clear the cream had turned bad and it didn't taste or snell right . Another party member had the trio of desserts with one being a mini pavlova which was also off and smelt bad. The waitress dealt with the issue promptly and professionally and changed the desserts and gave me a free cappuccino. Its a shame these desserts were allowed to leave the kitchen, but overall I would stoll return based on the service and friendliness of the staffMore

Booked for breakfast on New Years Eve, the food was good and the waitress was friendly and attentive. One thing we did not like was the extras added to the bill, when we arrived were told to help ourself to fruit juice believing this was...standard with the breakfast. We have breakfast out regularly and fruit juice is always part of breakfast charge such as other local restaurants Red Lion, Bradenham and Black Horse Thame, when bill arrived we were charged I believe £3.50 for a small orange juice and approx the same for a coffee, the charge increased from £10.50 per head to over £17.00 per head, rather exorbitant, we should has asked but sadly did not. A good breakfast but with the extra charges poor value and will use other places in future.More

Attended for a Work Do on 15th December with a total of 15 people. The process was a bit muddled from the start. I had to make contact with the pub themselves to see if they needed advance orders for all 15 of us. They...sent over an email with word document to detail these preorders. This was completed and sent back within 24 hours. Unfortunately, we received no email reply stating it had been received and I called them again the following day. They stated it had been received an email confirmation would follow shortly. Nothing. The day before the Work Do we received a call stating that The Bell was waiting for our pre-order form. Again, they had to be directed to their emails that it had been sent two days before. Despite this initial confusion, food for all 15 people arrived perfectly and without a hitch on the night. The portions were laughably for some dishes and whilst being tasty, they weren't particularly anything special. Our group was satisfied as a whole with the food. Drinks are a little pricey, probably due to their being little to no competition in the area. Unknown to us, The Bell closes at 11:30pm. For a Friday evening, this close to Christmas we were a bit shocked they were willing pushing good money out the door this early during a current financial crisis publicans are in. Unfortunately, the end of the night is where our whole experience was soured rather rapidly. The last orders bell was rang at 11:00pm and we started being ushered out at 11:15pm. Some of our group even had unfinished glasses taken away. At around 11:20pm some of our group had now left, whilst the rest of us were ushered outside. I myself returned briefly inside to see if I could use the loo before hopping in a taxi. After asking if the toilets were open still, a staff member, who had brunette hair, around 5.5ft in height and had thick glasses, with a slightly raised voice, spoke across the bar to me and said 'No, they're closed. Out.' Stunned, I complained that I didn't appreciate being spoken to 'like a dog' and returned to my group outside. Upon returning to them, it became evident that she had given a rather frosty and rude reception to others at our Work Do along with another female staff member with long blonde hair and glasses. This was despite this staff members not directly waiting on our table that night. Our whole group left in a state of shock at the reception we had been left with. It is a shame because they really let down some fantastic staff members that worked so brilliantly that night. A young boy at the bar and who waited on us was fantastic, despite not being old enough to serve us alcohol as well as a very friendly, tall barman with glasses. Unfortunately, due to these few highlighted, extremely negative incidents, our firm will not be back in the future and certainly won't be recommending The Bell to others while rude staff continue to be present.More

Having lunch with a view to booking a table with elderly mother prior to Christmas. Have visited pubs in this chain frequently over the years and always been very satisfied. What has happened to service lately!!?? No welcome, no smile, waitress sniffed very loudly at...table whilst taking our order, no condiments on any table in our area. My husband asked for Worcestershire sauce for his tomato juice which was followed by a very large bottle being “dumped” on the table. Asking for Dijon mustard we were told very flatly “we only have English”. Plates cold and food accompaniments tasted as if they had been reheated although the sea bass and liver themselves were very nice. Sorry but there will be no future booking. Such a shame because the pub itself is lovely.More
