About
As the name might suggest, this venue was once a bank, but don't imagine a transformed local branch of Northern Bank this is a grand, towering building with ornate ceilings and has been restored to its former glory, encompassing some original features, and with the original bank vault located behind the bar, it gives a very unique style and decadence. Its history that props up the bar here at, The Bank - quite literally. These days, it's well worth investing some time in a bar where you can bank on a friendly welcome, good company and a fine pint. The Bank Bar attracts a loyal band of regulars as well as a city-centre mix of shoppers, passers by and students, many of them lured in by the promise of good food, good music and great times, and at the Bank Bar we do not disappoint. Situated in Newry's Town Centre, just 5 minutes' walk away from the main shopping area, you can experience fine dining in a lavish yet relaxed and comfortable setting, whether it's a quick lunch away from the office, socialising with a group of friends, cocktails with the girls, craft beers with the lads, an intimate celebration or even just calling in for a coffee. At The Bank Bar & Bistro, you're more than welcome

Afternoon tea at the bank
Myself & 3 sisters decided to try the Bank in Newry for Afternoon tea as we seen it advertised on their social media outlets.
We booked in for Friday past, On entering the complex we were pleasantly surprised about how spacious the venue is, We were seated promptly by staff who were all wearing visors (Very reassuring) & given our choice of 3 options, we all decided to go for Champagne afternoon tea, A great choice as it was absolutely delicious, Great portion sizes + the sweets were to die for, All in all it was a great afternoon out & was reasonably priced.
Will be back again soon to try there bistro menu as it looks yummy also.

I decided to treat the other half to a mid week treat, We made the decision to venture into Newry (a short 20 minute trip for us as we live in Banbridge) & head to the Bank complex, We have both heard great reports of this venue.
On entering the restaurant we were put at ease with the staff all wearing visors + hand sanitation stations at the door, The staff were very friendly & escorted us to our pre booked table.
We both decided to try the Sizzling steak offer for 2 which was mouth watering, We both received 2 delicious courses + a bottle of wine, My partner was driving so I got all the wine to myself (Sore head today lol).
We were both very impressed with the Bank complex & will definitely be booking in for another trip very soon.
Simply yummy.

Went on Saturday night for dinner a large table to celebrate a birthday was pre- booked the food was quiet good and atmosphere was nice with a good singer in background. Sadly two of our servers were very good however due to the busyness they needed help a guy that worked there helped he was so rude practically through the food at us even though somethings we didn’t order a dessert that was for the birthday boy he put in front of someone else definitely wouldn’t have him working there couldn’t get his name but he appeared to be the only guy working on the 7 th of March. There needs to be a serious look at staff in this place as it has great potential as I would go back if staff improved .

Myself and my husband arrived for a meal last night, everything looked to be going well. Ordered our meal and drinks. We were brought food to our table that was meant for the next table, food sat down and then had to be lifted and moved to the next table. Then we were served with a meal that was not ours, then told it would be another 25mins for our meal as the server wrote down the wrong order. Then staff came over with drinks that were not for our table but for the next table and again a 3rd time. Now these are minor issues but when you have an allocated time slot for your meal and have to wait due to staff error.
We then went upstairs to the rooftop beer garden for a drink after our meal. This was a disgrace, social distancing non exsistant. 1 member of staff serving everyone - and to be honest unless you were this young ladies friend then you weren't getting served. We waited an hour to order a drink and a further 30 mins after that when our drink had not arrived and we were unable to get the waitress attention we left. Shocking customer service all round and a dampener and what had the potential to be a great evening out.
On leaving we advised a front of house staff that we wouldn't be back and we were greeted with a blank expression and a shoulder shrug - says it all!

We attended The Bank bar and bistro last night for a bite to eat and it did not dissapoint. We had starters which was chicken wings and beef spring rolls, very tasty. Main courses was the steak sandwich and the rump steak both cooked to perfection. 👌 We also had cheesecake and the chocolate brownie for dessert. The presentation and attention to detail was second to none. We will surely be back soon.

I would give this a zero if I could. We went on St Patrick’s Day, atmosphere and band were good but that’s when it stopped!! We ordered 2 steak and Guinness pie with chips, after waiting 40 minutes it was served to us cold with mashed potatoes and no chips, we sent it back and after a few minutes in the microwave it can back, small square piece of pastry was soggy, mashed potatoes had a skin on them and the steak and Guinness - what I can only describe it as was a puddle of brown water laced with salt, chef must have put the entire tub of salt in to try and give it taste! And the steak - OMG!! Lumps and pieces of gristle and slime, I wouldn’t have gave it to my dog incase she choked as it could not be chewed or cut with a knife unless you carry a chain saw with you!
We couldn’t eat it, sent it back and the waiter apologised and said there would be no charge, a few minutes later a woman with blonde hair came over to us, I would describe her as completely stuck up and walked around as if she owned the place!
She said “I believe there was a problem with your food and I will give you 10% off” our 2 full plates of food where in front of us and I said “10%, we didn’t even eat it as we literally couldn’t” I explained about the steak etc and my partner went to mention the 10000 kilos of salt in it, she put her hand 2 inches from my partners face and said one at a time please!!!! When I told her how rude she was and we were not paying for food which couldn’t be eaten she turned up her eyes, muttered under her breath and stormed off!!! Then she proceeded to give us dirty looks while we were finishing our drinks.
I know it was St Patrick’s day but the pie would have been prepared in advance and it should have been steak not pure gristle!!! We left after that and I will not be back. The assistant manager has a disgraceful attitude and should be sacked along with the chef!

If there are any coeliac' s out there like myself that tend to not eat out due to the bother it causes or the bland food we are given, making it a waste of money. Well i recommend eating at The Bank in Newry, My meal was amazing, I was told to pick from a range of options and the chef would make them " Gluten Free ", This was great to start with. Food came out, Soooo tasty, I mean amazing, the colours, The Flavours, OMG, I had the Salted Chili Chicken " gluten Free Version" I will definitely be back and highly recommend it. The party i was with all enjoyed their meals, Clean plates all round. Top Quality. Well Done to the Chef. Also have to mention our waitress who served us " short haired girl" very friendly, Cheery and nothing was any trouble, Both made our experience fantastic and will be back

We had a recent visit to the bank bar Newry which did not live up to past reviews. We ordered a starter of artisan bread (beetroot/soda & foccacia) we were told by our server this "should still be available" we got naan, garlic & ciabatta, which looked like it had been pulled together at the last minute possible of another plate. We then ordered meddalions of beef with asparagus, vine tomatoes, mushroom and a black pepper butter sauce, we got a
Fillet steak cut in half no tomatoes or asparagus and a pesto/butter type sauce. When we asked we thankfully got the asparagus but told they had run out of tomatoes, on the plus the steak was cooked well. To finish we ordered a raspberry creme brulee, how this dessert is identified as a raspberry brulee were the two raspberries that were placed on the side of the plate, the brulee was also runny but tasted OK. We thought we would finish with a gin from the banks extensive gin bar after the third gun requested which they didn't have I settled for one the barman suggested (that they had in stock).... the final drinks bill came back with an overcharge for a tonic but was rectified by the staff when queried. The bill was quite high for what resembled pub food that looked poorly put together with little regard for their actual menu. The staff however were all very friendly and made the best of the situation.

Myself & the wife were out for a nice Sunday drive when we decided to stop by the Bank bar & bistro, Great decision as the food was simply delicious. I went for the traditional Sunday roast, Great portions + the beef was amazing, the wife went for the weekend special which was the Ribeye steak ( I tried some of it & it was cooked to perfection), After our mains we decided to try the dessert special which was Jawbox gin rhubarb crumble again simply delicious.
We must say the staff were very friendly & looked after us, They are a great credit to the venue.
We will def be back again real soon.
Thanks,
Rob

Probably one of the worst menus for vegans I've seen yet, and that's saying a lot in Newry. I ordered soup and chips (the old standard) and it came with butter and wheaten bread, neither vegan. The waitress looked at me blankly when I pointed it out.
With a portion of chips and sparkling water, this came to £15 with tip. Unbelievable.
My friends and I have already said we won't be back, there's plenty of other places to eat that don't begrudge vegans a decent meal, with staff and chefs who are educated about plant-based eating.
Move with the times, folks - more and more people are choosing to eat plant-based meals now, not only strict vegans. You're going to be left behind.

Eight of us rolled in for dinner on a last minute, unplanned visit, and it has been a long while since we’ve been.
The menu choices hadn’t changed very much but the prices have sure increased by 20% 30% in most cases and I’m cynical enough to think that it’s not wholly justifiable. I do understand some costs have risen but suspect some price gouging too.
We had a range of food: beef and chicken burgers, steaks and a vegetarian. Now pasta and vegetables have not risen 30%. Nor have spuds.
The food was excellent, with one annoying exception - the baked Alaska. It was far too granular sugar loaded, the ice cream was mean and poor tasting, there was very little raspberry coulis, the sponge wasn’t spongy and still worse it had frozen sliced strawberries within.
Clearly the dessert was in the freezer to go to the hot oven in its iron skillet and it woulda worked but for the science.
Baked Alaska works as the meringue insulates the ice cream to keep it frozen while the outside browns. So the frozen sliced strawberries benefit from the insulation and also stay frozen. Just stop putting strawberries into a dessert to be pre frozen and add to the dessert post cooking. I won’t knock a star for this as it’s easily remedied.
The service was tip top and the servers were real attentive. One of the attractions of places like this was that you got a bargain so you went more often but those days are gone and now with prices coming much closer to the top notch places like Fitzpatricks while the food offerings aren’t commensurately better it’s more likely that folks will go there so price gouging can be counter productive.

Had dinner for ten tonight and every member of our party praised the extremely high standard of the food. We had a wide selection of the dishes from the seafood tagliatelle to highly popular Thai curry and all were so tasty and portions were generous. Without a doubt the standout dessert was the apple pie served with ice cream and custard, which tasted amazing! Speedy and friendly service, excellent food,we already have our next visit in the diary. Thanks for a lovely evening!

From the time of our arrival until departure we were greeted with warm friendly service. The ambiance was just right with fast efficient service from a moderately varied but well produced fare.
The spicy sizzling prawns were a great starter. The crusted salmon was a great hit.
I would happily return to this restaurant.

I Googled Seafood Restaurants in Newry as I fancied seafood chowder. It was on their menu online & hanging up just at the entrance door. I was quite disappointed to be told that their menus had been updated with no seafood chowder. I ordered a burger & it was absolutely delicious. A fraction on the spicy side for my taste but with garlic mayonnaise I didn't notice. The chips & bacon were yummy. Food are much the same as in Drogheda but the wine 🍷 is a lot cheaper. Very friendly Staff

Four of us visited on a Monday evening. The restaurant is well appointed and very spacious. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. We were served by a few people but the one who stands out is José, originally from Valencia, Spain. He was friendly, chatty, funny, warm and very attentive. Sadly, it’s not near to where I live, but I’d certainly go back if I were in the vicinity.
