I have just returned after staying 2 nights at the Railway and not knowing the place chose it by sheer accident but what a lovely find! Homely and very comfortable, lovely place with good beer (Wainwrights (tick!) and Saltaire Blonde (another tick!)) and the staff...are great. As well as being a local pub, there is a small and busy restaurant at night which looks pretty busy and popular with folks staying and locals alike and justifiably so as the food is great, game casserole is highly recommended. Breakfast had to be the full English with orange juice, cereals, great coffee which was all quickly served and great quality. Good job I do not stay there often as I would be the size of a house in no time. If you do stay there and Bonnie the collie dog is around who belongs to one of the ladies who does breakfast, make sure she gets a corner of toast as tummy rubs and laying by your feet is the result, she is lovely!More

Called in tonight for food and drinks. Superb! Firstly, the food was delicious and superbly presented, was better than much more expensive and “fancier” restaurants I’ve been to. Superb value for the quality of the food. I had onion bhajis for starters and game casserole...which was served with a creamy mash, delicious dumplings, roasted beetroot, chantenay carrots and red cabbage for mains, all cooked to perfection. A pint of Hetton Pale Ale, a glass of Chilean Merlot, glass of tap water - £33.45 all in. Incredible! The service from the landlady and the young man on the bar was exemplary. I would urge you to try this place if you haven’t already, it’s a real gem. Well done The Railway. I will be back for sure next time I’m working in Skipton.More

Went for Sunday lunch. Despite a mix up on our booking we were accommodated. I had a small carvery which was delicious. My mum had the small fish pie which she loved. I totally recommend this as somewhere to eat.

In Skipton for a short break and came across this little gem. Just wish they'd been open on Monday night too! I've just had the oven roast salmon with Parmentier potatoes + baby vine tomatoes with a cream and spinach sauce. Divine. Hubby had a...balti, we shared spring roll starters and both broke the rules and had sticky toffee pud. Couldn't fault the food, staff friendly, attentive, professional - and the pub has a really good atmosphere. 5 mins walk from the bus station over the canal, put this on your must do list. I envy the locals!More

We were in Skipton for the weekend visiting friends. They took us to a pub (The Railway) for a meal which had a very lively atmosphere, probably a bit too noisy for me, but that did not detract from the food which was fabulous. I...had roast pork belly, generally my favourite on any menu, however, this was probably the finest I have eaten; the meat was cooked to perfection and the crackling crispy but not tough and the balance of flavours in the accompanying sauce truly flavoursome. I would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone especially as a two course meal for four people including two steaks and drinks came to just £22.00 per head.More

Quiet lunch on a Friday. Food was delicious, portions were generous. Sides also quite big. Very good value for what seemed to be ‘home cooked’ food. Well worth a visit.

Have been to the Railway several times and food and service never disappoint. Went yesterday for Sunday dinner, and food was excellent. Quality ingredients, well cooked. Beer is always well kept. Prices are fair and reasonable. One disappointment though was one of our party ordered...a large (250ml) glass of wine. When it came it was only a medium (175ml) measure. When this was queried we were told that this was the biggest they do, as the till was unable to process a large measure. It was only when the size was queried that this was explained, and not when the order was taken.....which is what should have happened. Amazed that they cannot serve a large, 250ml, measure of wine, and never experienced this in any other pub.More
