Sunday afternoon it is Xmas market in Skipton and the whole place is choca. 3pm and hunger kicks in, we tried several pubs (no tables) one cafe (shutting despite queue down the street). Walked into the Royal Shepherd first impression was another packed pub, but...More

We ate at The Royal Shepherd after cycling with our two children 6 miles along the canal towpath from Eshton. Our meals were served quickly and were lovely. My husband raved about the Game Pie

Evening meal was absolutely lovely in this quiet but friendly pub. Lovely short pastry on the steak and ale pie and plenty of other meals available.

Further to an earlier, excellent visit, my wife and I returned for another visit during our week's stay. Steak was on the menu but there were no sauces. The chef heard my request and not only whipped up a juicy, succulent steak, but made a...More

A cosy old fashioned pub. Although we didn't eat there, the food looked good quality and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the barman didn't know how to make an "Irish" coffee so my wife educated him lol :)

Visited the Royal Shepherd for lunch on Tuesday 4th October. Had excellent pint of Guzzler and then the best steak pie I have ever had in a pub. The pastry was exquisite and the filling delicious. Would definitely go back.

Lovely little canal-side pub in centre of Skipton. Plenty of classic choices on the menu: but these aren't 'cloned' meals (or microwaved for that matter); great attention to detail. Beautiful steak and ale pie with short crust pastry: perfect. Good selection of beers on tap...More

Frank & Sue would like to welcome you to The Royal Shepherd. The Royal Shepherd takes its name from King George III. He was aptly nicknamed the 'The Royal Shepherd' because of his passion for sheep breeding. He introduced many new breeds to the country, famously the Merino sheep from Spain. Unfortunately the King died insane, immortalised forever as 'the madness of King George'. The Royal Shepherd is the only pub with this name in the country!
