Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This pub is very friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. Being coeliac, it can be a bit of a minefield eating out, but the people at the Black Lion could not have been more helpful and accommodating. They ensured my meal was gluten free. (Note to coeliacs: chips are gf 👍). I had the Brisket, and it was one of the best meals I’ve had for a long time. My husband had fish and chips, a standard and a good measure of a place - also excellent. They source local produce, here, and my husband had some excellent local beer and I had a very good local gin (guided by a very helpful bar staff). Everything about the place was lovely, from the garden across the road overlooking the river to the attention to detail inside the pub - bar area, toilets etc all tastefully decorated and presented. We can’t wait to go back.

This pub has it all. It offers the best food around in this area, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. We go regularly and Lynne and Phil are wonderful hosts and the staff are lovely. A lovely, cosy family pub. Highly recommended.

Lovely lunch at the Black Lion. Great atmosphere and so friendly. So impressed by the homemade vegetarian burger which was delicious and nutritious. Really amazing to find such good vegetarian food in a country pub. Highly recommend!

We went here for Mother's Day Sunday Lunch. It was a bit of a distance from where we were staying but we were not disappointed. The ambience was very homely, the food was outstanding and the staff very accomodating. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

This is a cosy little Pub with friendly locals and welcoming Hosts. We visited in Winter but in Summer weather it must be wonderful to sit in the Beer Garden next to the River. We had the most fantastic meal, which was by far the best Pub or Restaurant food we have ever eaten. Lovely Forest walk close by too.

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch on our way to West Wales and found this little gem. Firstly, so welcoming, we had our two dogs with us who can be very loud, no problem, just went in and settled them down after the noise subsided!! Food was excellent, my husband had the meat burger which was great and I had the best vegetarian burger I had ever had, Moroccan spiced burger, loved it. Homemade ice cream, yummy. It’s only a shame we haven’t got to time to revisit this week. Highly recommend Lynne Essex

Was passing and thought it was a quaint pub advertising food from 12 midday. Staff not welcoming to strangers at all .asked about food and road the chef had gone home .whilst having a drink the chef appeared from the back. No offer of a meal .very rude and don't go there if u are wanting a meal .

Hello Firstly we advertise that we are open from 12midday not that we serve food from midday!! If you arrived after our service time (12-2.30) then that is unfortunate for you but we begin again at 5.30 and some preparation time for the evening service is necessary. I’m a little perplexed at how you decide that we are rude to strangers because you couldn’t get what you wanted outside our service hours!! We are never rude to our guests whether they are known to us or not! In addition we would never say that the chef had gone home as he lives here!! Another example of people leaving negative reviews because they can’t get what they want, when they want it.

Had a meet up with 4 friends at this wonderful picturesque riverside pub, the staff and owners Phil and Lyn were great hosts , nothing was too much trouble ,the bar is lovely and cosy with a log burner making it such a really relaxing place to sit and chat, we had the 3 course sunday lunch which was incredible and for the quality and amount of home cooked fresh local food was very good value. Between us we sampled a few of the local beers and they were excellent , we then explored the different gins and then finished off with some excellent Penderyn whiskies. The last time i visited the pub was just after Phil and Lyn took it over , then it was just another tired country pub , i could see on this visit how much care they had put into turning the pub into an asset to the local community .The locals who popped in whilst we were there either to eat or just grab a pint ,you could tell the affection and high regard the owners were held in . Also if it is just coffee/tea etc and cake you'd like ,they have that covered too and a very large selection of local products for you to buy. Cant wait to visit in the week to sample the weekday menu . thankyou Carl
