The Refreshment Rooms are rightly a local institution. A great location, beautiful decor, a lovely garden and benches out front, warm, knowledgeable staff with a sense of humour, a fine drinks selection and a well-balanced menu. The fishcakes come well recommended, as does the Hake....The bacon and black pudding was most welcome, but.. The Greek salad was truly disappointing. Large, tough marinated sundried tomatoes, rather tired chunky-cut onion, cucumber, and green pepper, large, tough green olives, kidney beans (Kidney beans?), Feta bashed through into a thoroughly unappealing mush bound with a generic dressing. Greek salad should be a light symphony of colours and flavours, sensitively assembled with, preferably Kalamata olives, very fresh mise-en-place, cut with a sharp knife, or mandoline. A nice lemony dressing with some oregano, perhaps some mint leaves and a lovely bit of the ol' pita bread? The young waiter was most helpful and deducted it from the bill. Fanks everybody peeps, Stavros.More

Absolutely blown away. We went as a group of 6 and all had different meals, every single meal was beautiful. Lots of gluten free options listed on the menu as well which is fab to see. Team were all friendly and helpful. Cannot wait to...go back.More

Stopped in after a walk from Port Sunlight. Warm welcome, friendly, knowledgeable service. Food was amazing. Try the Chicken with Honey & Soy - stunning. Cold day so had the Scouse (loved it). Good home cooking. My husband had the Steak & Kidney Pie (again...home made and stuffed with meat). Not his usual fare, but very pleased with his choice. All in all a lovely experience and will be telling anyone who’ll listen that they must visit. We’ll be back for sure.More

Booked a table for myself, my fiancée and my sister for her birthday as she's always wanted to try dinner here as we did following a very impressive Sunday lunch here a while ago. We ordered the scouse, the belly pork and lamb shoulder for...our mains. Lemoncello trifle and the churros for desserts. Every meal was delicious, the pork and lamb just melted in your mouth even my fiancée (worlds fussiest eater) loved every mouthful of the scouse. The desserts where just as impressive and delicious 😍. Staff were great, attentive, polite and not pushy so we didn't feel rushed to eat drink pay and leave. Would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone who would listen 👌👌👌More

Had Sunday roast there. Food largely good but not special given the price. Green veg was too al dente, uncooked would be a better description. And why do restaurants provide such a small amount of gravy on a meal? Anyway, a second portion was very...quickly provided. Big problem was the outside toilets which I had to visit before the meal arrived. They were filthy. Looked to me as though they hadn't been cleaned since they were installed. The toilet pan was very very stained. No soap in the dispenser, and a layer of dust over everything. What does this say about the kitchens? Finally, to cap things off, a large dog sloped into the garden border near us to do a number two. The owner was told and he came back with a pile of kitchen paper as he obviously wasn't prepared with a plastic bag. I know this isn't the restaurant's fault directly, but maybe a sign saying "dogs welcome but please keep on a lead" would help. We will give this place a miss for a while. Pity, the location is lovely for a walk.More

Service was good as always. Food is very good, nearly excellent but not quite there, just lacking a little finesse. We will be back though!
