We had dinner on Saturday evening December 3rd. and were most pleasantly surprised. This is so much more than Pub Grub and at reasonable prices but please book it's worth it.The bar where we ate was warm and welcoming and i wish it was my local. The staff who were all young were attentive and friendly and the food and choice of... A little gem, food is spectacular, and the local ales are great. Friendly staff and a real log fire in the winter.

Warm and friendly greeting from star and locals. A good selection of ale and open fire contribute to making this pub immediately likeable. Ale was good too, but can't comment on the food as we discovered the kitchen wasn't open, so moved on after one drink. Good collection of books for people to take and also leave for free.

Warm friendly pub with a good selection of draft beer, the food is excellent but remember to book as the pub is popular.

We popped to the wheatsheaf for a beer, glad to find that the chef was on holiday, so had we planned to eat we wouldn,t have been able too. It's cosy, friendly and set in a great village, we have eaten here before so I know if we had been able to eat I don't think we would have been... More

We dropped in by chance for lunch having been to Hadrian's Wall. The food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and we got value for money and quick service. Definitely pop in again if we were in the area.

Dropped in for dinner and were very lucky to get a table without booking. We both had ribeye steak with trimmings and brandy and peppercorn sauce, it was delicious, compliments to the chef! We couldn't manage pud, but WILL be back for a second attempt before long. Thanks for a good evening.

We had never been before (2 adults /2 kids) and called in on spec, the Sunday Lunch was very good, lovely beef and proper homemade Yorkshire Puds. This is an ideal place for Sunday lunch if you are in the area, this kids had a mini fish n chips (which was a good size) and pulled pork, both were of... More

Called in with a small group of friends for a quick lunch and ended up staying untill closing time, i love this little inn, real ale, delicious hearty food, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The fish and chips with mushy peas was so tasty and the 12 pints of ale after that were even better......10/10

My wife and I called here for an evening meal. There was a general buzz of busy-ness. You are advised to book to ensure a table. The staff were welcoming and the menu offered a good choice. My wife had Hake from the main menu and I chose Venison from the specials board. Both were nicely cooked and good portions.... More
