Went for lunch for friend's birthday. I hadn't been back since the renovation so we were all excited to return.
We ordered coffee to start and it was a lovely smooth flavour with a lovely Welsh cake on the side. We chose from the fixed price menu (starters + main or main + dessert). I had the soup, tomatoes and herb, to start with fresh bread and generous helping of Welsh salted butter. It was absolutely delicious! For the main, I had goats cheese flat bread. It was huge and again delicious. The birthday girl had the cod (honestly it was so big, I thought it was a shark!). She had white chocolate and blue berries cheesecake for dessert and she said it was stunning. Overall, the outside scenery, the setting and the staff, who are very helpful, I would recommend it. You need a car to get to it. My only little niggle is, I am a vegetarian and there were only two main meals to choose from, but they have only just reopened so not really a complaint, more of an observation. Definitely going back.

The old house, you cannot deny the beautiful setting perfect for a wedding venue.
The staff were very friendly and organised. The food was very well cooked and a good selection on the menu, however if you are hungry don’t expect good portion sizes you will need to fill your meal out with extra side orders. The price was obviously was really good due to the eat out help out, I would however say this place is on the pricey side as a starter normally is around 6.50 which mine consisted of 1 small piece of bread with 3 small prawns, but you are paying for the view and atmosphere over food quantity. Overall this place I would say in my opinion is great for a mid-lunch meal or a nice family birthday / celebration occasion.

My wife and I had lunch here and it was excellent.
From the service, extensive menu choice, quality of food and surroundings it couldn’t be faulted.
The price of the 2 course lunch was justified by the quality and presentation of the food.
Will return.

Wedding anniversary dinner left much to be desired. The lady who showed us to our table asked completely inappropriate questions and appeared not to listen to the answers. On automatic pilot. Young waitresses were pleasant but unprofessional. For expensive for what was delivered. Even the chips my husband received appeared to be reheated - something similar to the end of the batch at a chippy takeaway. We noticed people who were served after us had better looking chips so we must have had those which should have been binned. Cannot recommend and soooo disappointed. What should have been a celebration was a letdown with no happy memories.

Called to the old House mid week menu very limited and has not changed since opening,
Food was very very poor the deserts were sent back one stale and the other
did not taste good at.
The big room at the rear is very noisy even with only a few people there. something has to be done with the acoustics. The cost of drinks is a disgrace I understand it is not trying to be a budget restaurant but it has to perform a lot better than it is.
During each coarse the staff has no clue not organised at all should be given training or replacing.
The owner has spend a tremendous amount of money on the renovation and deserves for it to work (owner please look at the cctv to know whats going on).
The valley need a Top restaurant in a location like this but until things change please take a trip out of the valley.
Which is a shame.
Covid the same menus are passed from one table to another without being cleaned the wooden boards they are clipped to cannot be properly sanitised please only use the sheets of printed paper and dispose with after each customer.
The light by the side carpark steps is not working and needs replacing.
The light by the side steps needs replacing cannot see a thing

We booked a 1 night stay for my birthday and have just returned. The location and venue are absolutely beautiful! The rooms are finished to a very high standard. The only points I would make is that I’m not too sure about the frosted glass window in the bathroom looking back into the bedroom (that’s just my opinion though), and there needs to be some sort of shower screen. They’ve gone for a wet room style however the floor is real wood and it was absolutely soaking everywhere after a shower and was impossible to walk on without getting your feet soaked. I don’t think it will take long for it to become a bit disgusting after a few people have showered in there.
We decided to have a meal there and the food was decent, we both had steak. The lady who showed us to our seats was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. I didn’t get her name but she is a credit to the place. However the younger waiting staff where rather blunt, the one read us the specials as fast as she could and pretty much ran off before we could say anything & they completely forgot about us at one point. Our plates were sat on the table for a good 30 mins after we’d finished eating our mains. I had to interrupt a group of them chatting to ask for the desert menus and to order more drinks. Now I’m not that picky with stuff like this, but we weren’t eating at a 2 for 1, when paying the prices they charge for the food and the way the place markets itself you’d expect top end service from start to finish.
All in all a nice night away and probably a beautiful place to have a wedding or something. Probably wouldn’t visit again to stay the odd night though.

There were 4 of us out to celebrate my daughters 22nd birthday.
We ordered nachos & dips and the Asian pork starter. The nachos and dips were tasteless and completely unseasoned other than the spicy dip which was overwhelming. My husband enjoyed the Asian pork.
Hubby and daughter ordered steaks which were lovely, although quite pricey when you had to pay £4 each for a pepper sauce. . My son had the burger which he enjoyed. I misheard the description of the special pork loin, which I ordered. The pork was quite nice, but the whole meal was very boring. The service was average at best, we had to ask for the same drinks twice and we were offered a dessert menu, but after 30 minutes of waiting gave up and just requested the bill. I was very underwhelmed with this noisy restaurant.

Had a lunch yesterday with my ladies, it was a late lunch as fully booked until 14.15.
Beautiful building and beautiful place, front of house works hard and is so polite and professional, a lovely lady.
The four of us were seated under the canopy and although the table was dressed lovely it was freezing in the shade so my friend asked if we could swap onto the table in the sunshine, the waitress asked what seems the head waitress and she shouted "it's booked" didn't realize you could book the sun tables when booking but hey get on with it we did.
Two of us ordered the chicken in garlic sauce with some sort of stuffing, it arrived half cold, although the veg was hot, the chicken was very bland and the stuffing was awful, we ate it as we very hungry by that time. The other two ladies had the fish and the pie and this was very nice, no complaints.
Desert took a little longer but was beautifully presented, worth the wait although we were all frozen by this time.
Time for a ciggie, two of us headed off into the sunshine way out from other diners, here she comes shouting in front of everyone to move up to the top of the car park so off we go to the top of the hill and she shouted again from down the bottom to move out of sight around the corner where there is a bench. Yes I understand the diners don't want the smell of smoke around them when eating but there is no way they could smell it from where we were, besides that shouted from down the bottom, how rude. Off we went like naughty schoolgirls (average age 50).
Ciggie out and back down we go to pay the bill, we needed to pay the bill separately but was told by the rude waitress that she couldn't do that as there wouldn't be discount price! What discount price you may ask, the set menu of £16.50, so if I went in alone would it be more ? No I didn't think so. I paid the bill myself and ended up with some cash I didn't need and didn't want. Customer service is missing here. Couldn't be bothered came to mind.
She is very rude and very abrupt, we are paying for this, it is not free, felt like I was visiting a prison and we were lucky to be there!
She gave us all a laugh anyway, she would be more suited in the Faulty Towers, perhaps that is what they are going for.
All the other waitresses/waiter are lovely by the way, hard working and polite.
Yes there is a Pandemic and first day of opening but there is no excuse for rudeness. I don't pay to be treated that way.
Will I be going back? Not until she is gone, let me know please.

It started off poorly when we were not shown to the table I had reserved for a wedding anniversary meal.
They then completely forgot to cook my wife’s meal, but served me mine anyway.
When we pointed out their mistake, they offered no explanations or apologies and said my wife's meal would be ready 'in two minutes'.
After 10 minutes had passed, I had to leave the table, find a member of staff and ask them to take my meal back until my wife’s was ready and could be served at the same time.
There was an additional 25 minute wait while they did this.
When the food arrived for a second time, it was clear that they had simply scraped the sauce off my steak (which I had paid extra for) and re-served it so that one-half of my meal was cold and covered in the now-congealed remains of the sauce, and the other was hot.
They provided no replacement sauce.
The wine was served warm. The crème brûlée and shortbread served for dessert was not set and ran like custard, while the ‘shortbread’ was actually two sponge fingers (the kind used to make trifle with).
When we complained, they offered to deduct the cost of the desserts from the bill, but we paid a set menu price anyway!
Nobody seemed to know what they were doing, what was going on or more importantly, to even care.
The end result was that the Old House at Llan spoiled what should have been a memorable wedding anniversary meal.
Why invest so much money into refurbishing a restaurant when you can’t even get the basics right?

Firstly, we arrived to the most amazing welcome by front of house, the lady was exceptionally polite and promptly sat us at our table, which was situated beneath the canopy outside.
Our drink and food order were taken by a very pleasant waitress, who kindly asked if we were happy with our seating location. The setting was stunning with tables all neatly presented, it’s very clear to see that a lot of time and effort has been put into making the experience as warm and welcoming as possible.
Our food arrived and it was outstanding, we really have no complaints.
My husband and I have been here a number of times and although it’s not the ‘normal’ experience, it’s not fair off! Yes, it was cold, but isn’t that expected given the current climate? It recommend you dress accordingly.
We really cannot wait to attend again and enjoy the full ‘indoor’ experience- there’s not long to wait at all!
Thank you all for a wonderful few hours out, it’s exactly what we needed!

My second visit to The old house 1147 in 1 week. I loved it so much the first time I had to return to sample the Sunday lunch menu, and it didn’t disappoint....Truly one of the nicest Carvery lunches we have enjoyed. Everything was so tasty and cooked to perfection and plentiful.
Pristine, beautiful venue with the loveliest, staff.
To top it all off the pudding list was to die for...... Bara Brith, Welsh cake cheesecake on
St David’s Day was a huge hit with our family.
Thank you all so very much for a perfect Sunday afternoon, we will return !!

I went this evening with my husband and six year old twins. We specifically asked for early evening (6pm) as we travelled a few miles to get there and we wanted them home at a reasonable time to go to bed. The Old house is beautiful and and been renovated to a high standard. The food was also very well cooked and we were seated at 18:05 to being served our dinner at 18:30. We had finished our meal by 18:45 and asked to see a desert menu at 18:50 when the dishes were being cleared. Now here’s my problem, the children wanted a desert for a treat and had chosen what they wanted, but nobody came back to take our order until 19:25. Then we had to wait again to be served the desert by which time one child was virtually asleep and the other very fed up indeed.
We left with one very upset child who cried all the way home because we simply couldn’t wait any longer for their pudding. When we paid for our meals the waitress tried to say that it was because the desert takes a long time to make (cheesecake and creme brûlée!) Actually no, it was because we were forgotten about and left waiting like dummies.
Did we enjoy? Up so far as the end of dinner, yes! After that it went very downhill through complete lack of consideration to the only table with children who needed - not even fast - just prompt service to have a nice evening.
Would we go back? Probably not when we were shown so little thought. Considering the waitress even asked us if we had been the guests who travelled to get there it was very poor and completely spoilt what was supposed to have been a nice treat for our children, who, let’s be honest, have all had a rough time in 2020.

Booked for an evening meal at 6.30pm.
Arrived and were shown promptly to our seats. Unfortunately despite our request when booking, we were seated in the courtyard not under the teepee as requested.
Our drinks orders and food orders were taken .
For starters we shared the mezze board. After quite a long wait it arrived and was an ample portion for two of us.
Unfortunately, when my wife cut into the chicken, it was Luke warm and raw with visible blood. We called a waiter, who apologised and took my wife’s plate away. We waited for a long time, before the same waiter returned and asked if his manager had spoken to us which we replied no.
We waited another 10 minutes, by which time the rest of the food was cold. We began eating the rest of the board, with my wife having to eat hers off a napkin as her plate had not been returned.
We finished the rest of the food and a short time later, the waiter returned with a small dish of piping hot chicken. Still nothing from a manager and no other food left, we ate the chicken.
25 minutes later a waitress asked if we had finished our starters as the chef is waiting to serve our mains! This was despite the plates being placed on the edge of the table for 25 minutes.
We had both ordered the pie for main course. My wife’s arrived, but mine did not. A few minutes later it did. The pies were very tasty and we both enjoyed.
Despite the restaurant not being full, we then waited another half an hour, before our plates were collected. By this time we were cold and fed up of waiting, so asked for the bill and skipped desserts.
The bill arrived with no reduction for the raw chicken and no sight of a managers apology. We felt quite let down by the the experience and especially the wait times.

Lovely location, but really disappointing experience. Service was very poor, my wife asked for potato rosti instead of chips as they were both on the menu, and we was told you'll have to pay extra for that, we said OK no problem and the meal still came with chips and the server said the chef wouldn't do it, we had to ask 3 times for our ordered side dishes and peppercorn sauce. Steaks come under cooked and were cooked rare rather than the requested medium, when we raised with the manager she was great and took the 2 meals away, but the same steaks come back, it was unclear if the same steak went to the same person, and were only a little better, with one end being medium and one end being still rare, at this point my wife give up and just ate what she could ( as 2 of us had already finished our meals).
Deserts were OK but not great, with the brownie being served at room temperature when we told it would be served warm and also having a mousee consistency inside. The "special" cheesecake also had a similar mousee consistency rather than that of a cheesecake., which was a little strange.
It's a real shame as it is a lovely location and staff were very pleasent, but won't be going back and will not be recommending.
