Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to dinner for my birthday celebration. Couldn’t have asked for a better setting. Food was superb, especially the desserts & staff could not do enough for us. Will definitely be returning & telling friends what a lovely eating experience we had.

Visited for food and drinks with a friend… greeted by very welcoming staff who showed to our table. Food was outstanding along with our service all night. I had a beautiful fillet steak and my friend the minted Lamb rumps both highly recommended. Finished off...our night in the bar next to the fire. Lovely atmosphere will definitely be returning.More

Such a pretty place to visit. Christmas decorations were beautiful and gave it a lovely festive feel! Was nice to sit next to the fire in the bar and have a drink before food. Had the duck which was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend.

We went for a romantic getaway and had dinner drinks and breakfast. We stayed over night and went for a long walk the next day before having lunch and coming home. The views are picturesque and the building it self is stunning. It was such...a relaxing stay with great customer service. The steak was cocked perfectly and and was complimented with a fantastic bottle of red wine. I would highly recommend to any one to stay here or even just go for food .More

Lovely looking pub, excellent views sadly food was well below average, very disappointed. We had steak and chips for lunch. Peppercorn sauce was over thick, tasteless and cold. Rest of the meal was not very warm, glass of wine was £8.50. I will not visit...this pub again. Plenty of restaurants around serving lovely food.More

The Old House is reputed to be one of the oldest inns in the UK and it is lovely - the period building is quite charming and the view spectacular. Staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. Rooms are charming and spotlessly clean, but tiny sinks...in bathrooms with nowhere to put toiletries is very irritating, especially as there is adequate room for larger sinks and storage areas. There are no chests of drawers, just hanging spaces- another annoyance as most clothes stayed in a suitcase. Trying to take a shower in practically stone cold water wasn’t great - neither was the incessant noise of the extractor right outside my room which was on all night. Dining in the restaurant was fine. My roast rump of Welsh lamb was delicious. Breakfast choices weren’t extensive, but everything was very well-cooked and my poached eggs were delicious. This is a unique place, so, despite my disturbed sleep and irritation regarding storage, I’d highly recommend it. Room water temperature really does need to be sorted out though!More

Booked 2 nights and ohhhh so wish I hadn’t. We were booked in to room 6 which is at the bottom overlooking the beautiful grounds and fab views but under the restaurant. Check in was ok as we pre paid so was just given a...key and told where the room was but not escorted to the room or told anything about the place or any offer to carry the cases or welcomed. The room was fine , clean and had everything you needed apart from a bloody comfy bed which was just horrendous. Woken at 6.30am with the sound of chairs/tables above being moved and dragged about which went on and got worse until we eventually got up at 8am. We went for breakfast at 8.45 and choice very limited, no breakfast menu etc so you could have either mini pain au chocolate and mini croissant or 2 types of cereals or fry up so we opted for full Welsh breakfast, at 9.05 we asked for toast and was abruptly told NO as the kitchen closed at 9am and we need to be quick. Anyway went out for the day with friends for a long walk and returned late afternoon for showers and an hours sleep before going out again… here we go again, just got to sleep and next thing loads folk right outside the bedroom door watching fireworks and shouting so we got up and got ready and left for our night out returning 11.40pm and went to bed to again be abruptly woken up at 6.19am to the same sounds. So guys AVOID this place and spend your money with a hotel that values its customers as the staff are bloody rude, no customer service and basic food. Just not worth the money which is such a shame as it’s a beautiful building in a beautiful setting but I think they are more of a wedding venue than a nice comfy welcoming hotel.More

Booked here to stay for an anniversary treat. When we entered our room it stank of urine…actually smelt like a urinal! When we complained we were told the room had been used by wedding guests the night before and they were unsure what had happened....There were no other rooms available, we had to leave as no way we could stay there! We were not given a refund - £180 down the drain and a ruined anniversary! The cleaner would of noticed the smell when the prvious guests left, obviously trying to not loose money and hope the next person wouldnt notice!More

We had a wonderful stay at the Old House following our wedding. The wedding was wonderful and Laura and her team went above and beyond to make the day so amazing. Brian and the kitchen staff served top notch meals and the over night stay...(rooms, breakfast etc) did not disappoint. The kitchen were able to cater well for GLUTEN FREE guests and managed other dietary requirements safely. I highly recommend a visit for good food, good atmosphere, good service, and good value.More
