We really enjoyed our stay in this very pretty historic hotel. We booked a dog friendly room which had a lovely outlook towards the hills and direct access to a large grassy area. The service was great, friendly and charming. We had a lovely dinner...in the garden area and breakfast was great too. Our dog was very happy too - bring your own dog bed & bowls.More

One of my favourite places to eat. The service from Steff, Helen and the rest of the team is second to none. The food is outstanding. I Always try something new whenever we visit but my husband always has the pie(could I get a weekly...delivery of them. He loves them). The burger I had this week was so flavourful and very filling and the views are to die for xMore

2nd visit so booked lunch for my birthday as our 1st experience was amazing, what a difference!! Staff attentive but food appalling. King prawn starter excellent, Asian pork cold and very salty. Lamb rump over cooked and chewy. Beef burger so oily I couldn’t eat...it and I love fat !! Onion ring batter raw, like dough, not able to eat. Chips were the bits that you used to be able to buy cheap at the chip shop years ago. Offered free dessert but my husband couldn’t stomach one as his meal was ruined, I on the other hand tried the Eaton mess which was at least edible. We paid £50 for a meal which was not edible and because we didn’t complain before we had eaten a couple of mouthfuls were not entitled to a discount, just a free dessert as compensation!! If you enjoy hot, well cooked food which has been prepared by someone who is proud of what they serve then DON’T EAT HERE. Birthday lunch ruinedMore

The food and service that we experienced was 10/10. The cockles to start were delicious and the burger was excellent. Great staff always make the experience that little bit better, also.

Small 90th birthday lunch for a relative at the Old House a week or so ago. Despite being very busy all the staff made her (us!) feel wonderfully welcome and she had a lovely time. Not our first time there, certainly won't be the last....Also - food was excellent!More

In spite of a beautiful new restaurant extension with great countryside views, the food was very poor. All three portions of chips and the side of onion rings were cold. My fillet steak was raw; I asked for medium rare but the 2inch thick steak...was completely raw in the middle. Which is no surprise as the thickness would have meant it would have been impossible to cook the middle anyway, even if I’d asked for well done. Why it wasn’t cut in half and cooked as two steaks I don’t know. My mother in law had chicken au poivre which came with rosti. She does not like rosti so asked to swap it for chips. This request was refused and we were told we would have to order a side of chips and waste the rosti. How ridiculous is that? The table service was very good and our waitress was exceptional, informative, engaging and professional. I would not recommend this restaurant; the prices are top end (£24 for the steak) but the preparation was very poor. There are much better restaurants in the area which charge the same but know how to cook.More
