Very much a mixed bag. For a change, I'll bullet-point the good, the so-so, and the not so good. Good - atmosphere, menu selection, wine selection, starter of goat's cheese, mains of pigeon. The latter two were absolutely excellent. So-so - starter of pate, mains...of fish and chips (despite the fish being plonked on top of the mushy peas, leading to the fish having a "soggy bottom"), dessert of apple crumble (despite the crumble not being "proper" crumble), and service ( I had spilt something on the table after my mains, but it was left there for the rest of the meal). Not so good - apostrophe abuse on the main page of the web site, and the appallingly bad profiteroles ( a steak knife to cut through them would have been advisable). The confirmation of my on-line booking also referred to the fact that I had been "approved" for my booking - what investigative methods are used to approve me? The chairs were a bit hard, causing my wife to fidget uncomfortably after about 45 minutes. So, a little bit of a curate's egg. If the restaurant can replicate the excellence of the "good" items elsewhere, apply small alterations to the "so-so" items, and eliminate the "not so good" items, then a stunning venue will surely result.More

Really top quality food - loved it! Started with Oysters - from Lindesfarne absolutely fresh and stunning with shallots and added a dash of Tabasco. Last time I had oysters that good, they were taken straight from the sea. Similarly with the Mussels superb, not...had better ones, since the ones taken from the ropes of the mussel farm in Kotor Bay. Tempura prawns with Asian salad, and Stornaway black pudding and cheese tart top notch. My first visit - so annoying I didn’t visit sooner. As Arnie said - I’ll be back!More

This restaurant is just divine. It has a beautiful atmosphere, the service is impeccable! Gabriel was superb x then there’s the food OH MY DAYS! This is one of THE best meals I have had in a very long time , absolutely sublime👌🏼 The mussels...were succulent, steak tartare was scrumptious and the partridge was yummy. The wine was delicious too! Thank you Bistro Verite for a wonderful evening. It’s no wonder it’s always booked up - I would absolutely recommend this gorgeous place for any occasion, just book well in advance xxMore

good food but so, so noisy and also music. people were almost shouting and very loud. i cannot fault the food at all, it was good but it was our first and last time there im afraid. we were so looking forward to it!

What a fantastic meal again! I had the sticky Chicken kebab to start followed by a venison special which were both 10/10. The two friends I went with had not been to Verite before and were both blown away by their meals. In my opinion...by far and away the best restaurant in the town for quality of food, staff are always friendly and the restaurant has a great vibe.More

We had a gorgeous meal at Bistrot Verite. Staff are SO friendly and very attentive. I am coeliac so I am always a little anxious when going out. The staff were so helpful informing me what I could have and there were so many options...which were or could be made gluten free! We had a really lovely meal and will definitely return soon.More

Easily the favourite haunt of my wife & I. Gorgeous food with no pretence and a lovely, bustling atmosphere. Steak tartare is a must.

What an amazing find! We were on holiday in the area and wanted a nice meal out. We researched the local restaurants and this one really appealed because of the French influence and the committed husband and wife team. It did not disappoint; in fact...it far surpassed our expectations. The bistrot has a lovely feel. We dined at 6pm on Saturday and it was buzzing. We were warmly welcomed and received attentive service all evening. The specials were superb…on top of an already excellent menu. We were literally spoilt for choice. We don’t often want more than a starter and main, but ended up having nibbles, staters, mains and puddings! Everything was absolutely delicious. My husband is an outstanding cook, so I am spoilt on a daily basis and he is very fussy about his food when eating out, but last night was a true delight for both of us. I lived in France for a year and I can honestly say that all the Frenchness came through beautifully. Thank you so much, team Vérité. We wish we lived nearby as we would be regular visitors and it would be our “go to” place. We will definitely be making the trip to visit you again.More
