We booked for a special anniversary and were not disappointed!!A lovely evening with exceptional food and attentive unobtrusive service. All at a very good price.
We are not local to the area, but had looked at the menu for The New Inn and thought it looked interesting and reasonably priced.
We were shown to our table within a couple of minutes of arriving, and although it was not set, it...didn't matter as everything we needed was brought to us in due course. The Italian waiter was helpful, courteous and friendly. I ordered a pizza, made with a homemade sourdough base and it was excellent, as good as in Italy. My husband ordered off the specials menu, a barbecued chicken brioche and it was very tasty. We had a lovely evening.More
Rubbish experience of our first and last visit to the New Inn in Baschurch. We have eaten out at many restaurants and never felt the need to give such a negative review before now:
1. We were directed to our table which wasn’t set out....Had a few napkins and incomplete cutlery just randomly placed down.
2. A lady asked to take our drinks order but we hadn’t even been given any drink or food menus.
3. We ordered some nibbles, one of which was pigs in blankets with cranberry mayo to start. We were served honey and mustard chipolatas which were nice but not what was listed on the menu. We pointed this out to the waitress and she didn’t realise that it was different from the menu offering.
4. The mains then arrived. The garlic/chilli prawn skillet was unbelievably bland and no sauce or dip for the pitta bread so dry as well. Pie was over cooked as were the chips. Filling was just meat with gravy, nothing else. No real flavour there either. Kids had battered halloumi which was a little greasy. Only nice thing on the mains was the bit of dressed salad.
5. We spoke to a member of staff regarding the food who said he would speak to the kitchen. We thought maybe they were having an off day or overly busy but the waiter said all was fine and that no one else had complained about it. By this time, we just wanted to leave so sat with our coats on trying to track somebody down to get the bill. They did quite rightly discount our bill but they didn’t really seem to want to address the issues.
A couple of things that made it feel worse was that the reservation was for my husband’s birthday dinner (which I mentioned on the booking form) which turned out to be a huge disappointment.
Also, really surprised to read that the executive chef (as listed on the website) who oversees the kitchens is a previous Masterchef quarter finalist! Not even close to any kind of masterchef standard and not a patch on any of the amazing food from the many restaurants in Shrewsbury.More
On a beautiful Friday evening in June we decided to dine outside in the glorious Grecian style garden area of The New Inn and it didn’t disappoint! The tables were large and spacious, the chair coverings were comfortable and if we wanted respite from the...sun, our table had a wonderfully large parasol to shade us.
The front of house staff were busy making sure all customers had drinks, clearing empty glasses and chatting to the friendly locals. They created a really lovely atmosphere for a birthday dinner for my partner.
Now for the food, I mean WOW!
Firstly the value for money was extraordinary. My scallop starter was £9/£9.50 if I recall and I couldn’t believe it when the dish came out. The scallops were absolutely gigantic and cooked to absolute perfection. The curried parsnip purée married with the sweet scallops, micro coriander and pomegranate incredibly, a great dish for a sunny day.
The sirloin steak was equally as huge and absolutely delicious, you can tell that the chef uses quality ingredients to produce his dishes. All accompaniments to the steak were scrummy. I enjoyed it that much I unfortunately didn’t have room for dessert but they all sounded amazing.
Thank you very much to The New Inn team, your skill has made my partners birthday weekend one to remember!More
This was our first visit to The New Inn as we've only just moved to Baschurch. Some recent less than favourable reviews were a concern, but we were keen to try it out as it is now our new local!
We received a warm welcome...as soon as we arrived, and were immediately shown to our table and provided with menus. Our drinks order was soon taken, followed by our food order shortly afterwards.
For starters, I had the scallops with parsnip puree, and my husband had the black pudding, bacon and poached egg salad. Both dishes were excellent, and beautifully presented. I then had leg of lamb roast dinner and my husband had roast beef (served pink, just as he likes it!). A good selection of fresh vegetables accompanied our meals, together with the biggest Yorkshire puddings we've ever had!
All staff were friendly and attentive and the Inn had a lovely atmosphere. It was very busy, so it's a good idea to book. We will definitely be back!More
Went to New inn Baschurch with my husband, somewhere we have visited on numerous occasions over the several years and during covid restrictions. Some what disappointment coming back after several months break. This location used to be one of our favourite.
. The first thing...we noticed was how unkempt the front of pub was. Half dead hanging baskets and weeds everywhere.
This immediately got us thinking that something had changed. Historically the whole experience has been fantastic but this time they’ve lost the edge. Decor looked a little tired inside
The staff were very attentive and couldn’t be faulted. I had the haggis and chicken sizzlers. My husband had steak which he described as average. My haggis didn’t have the spicy punch you expect from haggis. The chicken sizzlers was ok
We won’t be in any hurry to come back, which is such a shame, because we used to count this as one of our favourite locals. Hope it’s just a blipMore
My husband and I have just been for a meal, and quite frankly, we are both shocked at the level of service. I may as well have not existed to the waiter who barely acknowledged my presence. We had to ask for menus, ask to...order, and at no point we're we asked how our food was. I didn't know such chauvinism still existed in today's world but it was on full display today. The waiters back was turned to me from the start and when I asked for the bill, it was given straight to my husband.More
We visited last night for an impromptu meal. Delicious food, interesting menu and attentive hosts. I love lamb shanks but am not a lover of mint …the chef altered the meal for me and made it with a red wine jus. Top marks from all...four of us. Thank you.More
