Our first visit but will certainly not be the last , on arrival we were greeted by Naomi who was so very friendly yet professional and at once made us feel at ease and welcome and already we had a feeling the night was only going to get better, the place was full and it’s easy to see why
We were seated at the bar and offered drinks from the bar whilst we perused the menu. We had 2 gin and tonics and given the size of the restaurant (12-14covers) we had a good selection of fins to choose from
Reading the menu, there was nothing on it that we would not have ordered, indeed we wanted to order it all ! In the end the lamb, feta and mint meatballs and locally caught trout gravadlax (of which apparently the chef catches and cures himself !) was opted for followed by pork belly and the most amazing sounding duck dish
WELL WOW , this was by the far the best food we’ve eaten anywhere in Devon, the lamb was so flavoursome and the little side of pearl cous cous teased the mouth with such divine flavours as did the trout gravadlax
Mains were beyond exceptional, the duck with a ginger, orange and chilli crumb was declared to be perfectly cooked, tender and utterly scrumptious
We shared a bottle of very reasonable wine from a small but perfectly formed wine list with prices very competitive
Sadly we had no room for dessert but what we saw coming out and the pleasure on other diners faces only reinforced the opinion that they were indeed of the highest quality
I cannot believe given the absolute stellar quality of the food that the prices are so very good, starters £7.50 and mains from £16-£17.95, I’ve seen prices in local pubs much much higher than this but nowhere near the quality
The ambiance is just perfect here and the chef (Naomi’s husband Brett) is clearly Highly talented and passionate about his cooking , this shows in every dish as presentation was beautiful and flavours to behold
We had a chat with naomi at the end of the evening and she informed us that they had owned the restaurant for 20years this year , this to us spoke volumes of the success that they have achieved , to be at the top of their game for that long and still producing epic fine dining food with friendly welcoming service just shows that this couple know how to run a successful business

I was disappointed I could not get a reservation at No 8 and then not at Memories either, or so it seemed , But the owner told me she could do the day before at7pm . YES PLEASE. I was not disappointed . Car parking was available at the other side of the Church but take a torch to walk through the graveyard. We had a lovely welcome and shown to our table . There were only 12 covers and that is true outside Covid times too, but 4 are moved into the bar area to make for SD tables . Every table has a staggered sit down time and you are politely reminded to sanitise. Water arrives at the table unprompted. Always a plus for me . Bread is wonderful and the complimentary soup was delicious. Our food was exceptional . The presentation beautiful and the crockery complements the food. Our hostess was delightful, chatting to customers but including the other guests around her . We were able to enjoy a chat with a neighbouring table too which created a great ambiance. We arrived at 7 and left at 9.30, well inside the curfew time but never felt rushed and for it rivalled many a Michelin London restaurant . But how refreshing to find people who value their achievements based on the customers responses not awards. They celebrate 20 years in business this year and deserve all the accolades . It was the best evening of our holiday and if I was ever in the area I would book up immediately that I knew I would be near. Thank You both of you for a lovely meal and evening.

If you are lucky enough to spend some time in the delightful fishing village of Appledore in North Devon then a visit to this extraordinary restaurant is a must. Doing just around a dozen covers in an evening makes this a personal dining experience delivered with great care and attention but also means booking well ahead and sometimes taking the chance on a waiting list.
The cooking is excellent, the menu tasty and exciting and the ingredients are local, fresh and delicious. Truly the best dining experience in this area at a fair price where you will be looked after by a gifted chef and his wife as wonderful hosts. I must recommend a visit if you can get a table. Enjoy!

I think the title says it all but I will elaborate.
A small restaurant with a lovely atmosphere hosted in a most
welcoming and helpful way by one half of the ownership whist the other half works away in the kitchen.
The food was just plain outstanding - almost impossible to do justice to it in words.
The starter of fried squid and prawn was delicate , tasty and a joy to eat.
The mains of lamb and duck were cooked to absolute perfection as were the potatoes and other extras which adorned the plate.
Dessert was brilliantly inventive and scrumptious.
As you can gather we enjoyed the meal!
And to top it all food of Michelin star quality at no more than some pubs charge.

We had another superb meal at Memories for Valentines. The food was at the usual high standard and the service was excellent. Brett and Naomi have always found ways of improving the whole experience with a few new dishes on the menu and subtle changes in the decor.
Well worth a visit if you like finer food. A lot of restaurants of this calibre offer small portions but this isn't the case at Memories!

This place never fails to please, if anything it gets better and better
A recent visit meant we enjoyed Thai style calamari salad and home smoked salmon tart for starters , the calamari was so fresh and tender and the accompanying salad was everything a Thai salad should be, hot spicy, sweet and sour ! The salmon tart was in contrast smooth and creamy and bloody delicious!
Mains of venison and lamb were outstanding and perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth
The reason we return time and time again is because the food is all home made , delicious and so very reasonable for the quality you will get
I 100% recommend you try here but book early as they only seat 12/14 with one sitting but my god is it worth the wait

Wow, amazing night at Memories. Host Naomi was exceptional, nothing was to much trouble, very attentive, very knowledgeable regarding the Menu.
For a small restaurant the food was outstanding, cooked to perfection. You will need to book, you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be going back. Thank you Naomi & Brett

Everyone I'm in the county, I make sure to visit Memories. The food is phenomenal. And the experience is always delightful.
It's a a small family restaurant, so make sure you book in advance as it will be full for good reason.
The atmosphere makes it easy to feel at home especially with Naomi, who goes out of her way to make your experience memorable. The quality of Memories is second to none. There is no doubt I will go again.

We had booked to go to our special restaurant in March and then lockdown put paid to it. So it has been a long wait to go back, but of course it was worth it. The new Covid precautions seemed sensible and made us feel safe with only 10 guests in the restaurant. The food was amazing as always! Brett had used the lockdown to create new dishes which were delicious and beautifully presented. Naomi was her usual bubbly self as front of house and ensured we had a very special evening.

Visited here 25th March and from the initial greeting the to the meal was exceptional and customer service was first class .
The food was five stars and beats the rest but far and with only a seating of twelve to fourteen this gives you space and feel that your are special.
Will definitely be going back.

We were so pleased to get a reservation for dinner at Memories and to be able to introduce our friends to our favourite restaurant. It didn’t disappoint and proved to be the highlight of their stay with us.
Our meal was superb from start to finish. The great thing is that it is always so difficult to choose what to have… we all agreed that we could have eaten everything off the menu. In addition we were served a beautifully smooth and tasty soup as an amuse bouche to get our taste buds going. I could honestly have just eaten a huge bowl, it was so delicious. Beautiful mini French loaves and butter are automatically brought to the table and a generous side portion of vegetables accompany the main course, no extra charge for either which is most unusual these days.
Brett and Naomi really are the perfect team and along with excellent food guests are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome and superlative service. We are always amazed at the exceptional value for money too. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to this lovely restaurant - but be sure to book early, with this sort of quality reservations can be hard to get.

I’ve been to memories a couple of times when visiting my dad, and the food, atmosphere and service is out of this world. It’s truly amazing that it’s only run by a husband and wife team - the fact that it’s always busy is a testament to them. Naomi even gave us some milk to take home when we run out of some at home! Fabulous and would highly recommend! Thanks for having us! X

We had a very enjoyable evening at Memories during Tier 2 restrictions. Naomi and Brett have done a great job in keeping to Covid rules. But the best thing alongside the great ambience and service is the food. A good menu and the food was superb. Highly recommend the duck and lamb which were both "melt in the mouth". Nice touches with an amuse bouche, bread and water on the table. Very good value and totally underpriced if you're used to London prices ! Naomi recommended the Westleigh Inn (a few miles away) for Sunday lunch which was great pub grub. thank you Naomi and Brett, please keep it up so we can return. The Hills.

We make sure to book 2 or 3 tables in advance as they restaurant is so good we never want to miss a month and on this visit we bought some memories virgins !
Once again , like every visit service is exceptional, professional yet warm and welcoming and our friends were made to feel like they’d known them forever despite it being their first time!
The food is just sublime, it’s a level of cooking not often found in North Devon, Brett truly is an exceptional chef and a man of many talents , flavours just sing together, nothing competing for dominance , every mouthful is a pure delight and it’s a sad occasion when we’ve finished !
There’s already 3 more dates in the diary to look forward too !
Whatever you do Brett, Naomi and Libby don’t stop doing it !

Memories is now without a doubt our favourite place to dine out...really do think it's the best restaurant In north devon for that specail meal out..fantastic food cooked to perfection by Brett. And always made more than welcome on arrival and the whole evening by Naomi. Excellent value for money .The kind of place you have your table for the whole evening...your not rushed and the atomosphere is relaxing. We've decided to make our monthly treat , Because if your going to go anywhere for a treat you deserve the best...piece of advice booking in advance,As it's a venue in demand. but you won't be disappointed. X
