We hit traffic just south of Exeter and sat Nov diverted us to the pretty village of Idea. The Huntsman has just been taken over by a new owner. Sitting in their garden eating well prepared lunch was preferable to any chain cafe motorway services....More

We knew Bryan and Carole when they ran the Pub opposite our house in Braunton, so we were keen to visit IDE and catch up with them in their new surroundings. As always, the lunch was delicious and the same high standard as before. The...More

We had a small birthday party, for four. The food was very good pub food, which is what we expected. Do not expect to be served quickly as it was freshly cooked, which allows more time to try some of the good beers for sale....More

Had a really lovely meal. Quite difficult at the beginning due to the boisterous locals at the bar - but it soon cleared and we could hear ourselves talk. Only downside was the overpowering smell of woodsmoke even though it was a warm day and...More

I always like coming to this pub! Not due to the banter but due to excellent service. All staff are friendly and some if your lucky, entertaining! Atmosphere is lovely, especially with the refurb! Prices are reasonably cheap!

I am sorry that you felt the need to give such a scathing review, however what you failed to mention was that your original query regarding the bill was of being undercharged as your husband wasn't aware that you had paid for your drinks separately...More

John I'm a regular at the Huntsman so you may feel that what I'm about to say carries some bias. Perhaps, however my question is this: Did you say anything at the time to the staff regarding your main meal? My understanding is that you did not. Given that you found the staff friendly and amenable, given that you stayed on to have a dessert which you enjoyed (i.e. you didn't wish to finish up and get out as quickly as possible - which would have been a more understandable reaction) and given that you would have been asked whether everything was alright with your main meal; you would have had every opportunity to provide your feedback at the time and so allow the staff and management the opportunity of responding and making restitution. But you didn't. Of course everyone makes mistakes and it might be that you had every reason to find the main meal unsatisfactory; however the fact that you chose not to say anything but instead to instead provide an incongruous and unhelpful review coupled with the worst possible score, I believe says more about you the reviewer than it does about the Huntsman Inn, its food and staff.

You obviously didn't read my review, which was fair and accurate. As we only had a sandwich you are obviously confused.

I should ring the very friendly staff ---- as we have no dog at the moment, I couldn't be certain but it is quite tiny and cosy in there! If weather good, sitting outside is very pleasant. Sorry I can't be more help!
