On a cold Tuesday there was a warm and pleasant atmosphere with friendly landlady. It's a lovely old pub with low ceilings and plenty of warnings to mind your head on low beams. There was a good beer selection and a good draft cider. There...were four other tables occupied. We ordered a steak pie and a chicken pie with winter vegetables. We had wait a bit for the food but it was not excessive. The pies were pretty good, good pastry on top and with mostly tender meat with no gristle but a couple of chewy bits. Overall good. I would go again.More

Meal for 7. Sat down at 3.20 and order quickly taken. Starters did not arrive until an hour later even though all but 2 were cold dishes. We waited until nearly 6 o'clock for our mains. Over 2 1/2 hours after ordering, even though the...place was not busy (it was late afternoon). Four of the dishes immediately sent back. 3 were venison pie - in fact turned out to be small sections of a much larger pie that has obviously been reheated as they were all heavily overcooked and very dry - the gravy at the side of the pie slice was actually crispy! The other dish returned was slow cooked belly of pork that was as tough as old boots. It was served to a butcher who pointed out it was so thick it was clearly from a very old and large pig, hence the poor quality meat. Only main dishes that were edible were deep fried. 4 of us left the place hungry and upset at the experience This place used to be amazing. Seems to have changed hands and gone downhill. Chef needs the sack before he drags the place under. I'm very local (Capel) and they've lost my business until things change.More

A lovely old English pub We booked a table a week ago for 5 for Sunday lunch. It was very busy, but we like a good pub atmosphere. Initially the table we were given was in a chilly area ( it is exceptionally cold today)...we were moved without a fuss. A lovely lady apologised that there would be a delay with our food. We didn’t mind as we were warned, and we were comfy and having a nice time The food when it arrived was well worth waiting for, the staff were polite and accommodating. It isn’t a large venue and coped very wellMore

They need to get their act together. Pre booked a Sunday roast but arrived to find they had no roasts available. There was an apology from a young staff member but nothing from the management who seemed not to comprehend how stupid they looked. Seemed...very take it or leave it.More

6 of us thought we would go for the advertised super Sunday roast. We prebooked, they had full contact details, we arrived on time. They told us that the table was available but they had run out of food! No thought to contact us and...stop us from travelling some distance for a non event, and we were hungry. The Star in Rusper came to the rescue, accomodated us, initially with difficulty but as soon as a table came available we were seated and had an amazing Sunday lunch, thank you Kosta. Needless to say we will not bother with The Plough againMore

We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious roast dinner today. The service was brilliant, a warm welcome and great to meet the new Manager Katrina, who spent time chatting to the patrons. There was a lovely fire too. The atmosphere was very cosy, and again our food...was gorgeous.More

We went in July and was really good but just been again today and was awful. Had the veggie roast. Very underwhelming to say the least. Very disappointing. We wondered if it has changed hands and just looking on here it seems to have. Definitely...would not recommend from our experience. ShameMore

Just a shambles start to finish. Our first contact at the Plough was very sporadic in whether he would reply to emails or not. He got all the booking details wrong and could rarely be contacted. A second manager then took over and again was...liable to not reply to any emails - meaning that requests made in good time were completely ignored and people got the wrong meals on the day. On the day the service was very messy. Some of the food was good, but some of it - particularly vegetarian options - were just plain bad. Then the day after, which happened to be my wedding day, the pub started accusing guests (who had fortunately kept their receipts) of not paying. We sent receipts and bank statements but quite stressful really. Another sign of their just fundamental disorganisation. It is probably a good locals pub for a pint but they shouldn’t be doing big group bookings if they can’t actually handle it. I would strong advise avoiding if more than four people.More

Under new ownership and food was good enough, not spectacular but decent enough. The charcuterie board was all bread and olives with very little meat which was a little disappointing, let’s just say had better. But overall friendly atmosphere, not back to its former glory,...food was coming out but the waitress didn’t have a clue to which table it was ordered by so room for improvement.More

I would rate it a 4.5 but you can’t so I will rate it a 5 as my mum didn’t complain about anything! Amazing pub, we sat in large garden and enjoyed the sun. The attics rooms are a must see even if you aren’t...eating inside. The food was fresh and delicious, my husband and I just had the ciabatta lunch options while my mum opted for the gammon egg and chips which she said that it was delicious. Set in a lovely village in West Sussex with the church opposite, very picturesque. Will definitely be returning and recommendingMore

Perfect Saturday evening family meal out. Walked into a buzzy, warm and inviting atmosphere. Harrie, our waitress, was super friendly, attentive and ensured that everything was okay for us which made the experience even better. Can definitely recommend the homemade pies. I had the lamb...kleftiko pie which was delicious and the whole family were satisfied and happy with their food too! Best pub of revived inns for sure.More

Thank you for your quick response however it is not how I remember the experience on Sunday. You say that when you told me " not to come back", it was not mean't maliciously, it certainly came across like that. To say I was shocked at the time was an understatement. I'm a pensioner and have eaten out a lot. In fact I went out on Tues to a restaurant in Horsham which was very nice. I did tell them about what had happened at the Plough, the manager was shocked, she said she would never dream of talking to a customer like you spoke to me! (Regardless of how you feel). I think that you were just overstretched & stressed because a table near me were also complaining to a waitress about the poor service & the exceptionally long wait for their desert. Secondly I think that you were not happy with me when I first arrived and was ordering my meal and I questioned the price of the Sunday roast on the ONLY menu available in the bar £13.95 - however on the internet you were advertising on your web site, a deal over all of Easter for £12.95 which was for roast dinner, desert & coffee. Your response to me asking you politely was, "it is £12.95, the menu I had been given was for in the week". That didn't make any sense to me, as it clearly had a section saying what was available on Sunday's! I didn't bother to challenge you because I am not a argumentative person as you suggest in your response. I just believe in giving people good service and value for money having worked at the CAB voluntarily for many years. I hasten to add I have eaten at the Plough (not Sunday lunch) at least 6 times before with a friend. Had it been like this last Sunday I would never had returned. I think you should have taken my comments on board graciously, and apologise - like pouring gravy onto peoples meals - some people don't even like gravy, this is elementary to put it in a gravy boat and let people decide for themselves. If you the Manager behave like this, I feel sorry for the FEW staff that there were and their training.
