Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had planned to lunch at the Anchorage but like a lot of places on Harris, not much is open passed the end of September. However, that didn't apply to the Butty Bus. A really nice portion of fish and chips for £5 sat in the car watching the ferry come and go was delightful. Does soup as well and other snaky things.

We have been going to Harris for several years to visit now who is a good friend Tony at flodabay b&b and motorhome park, Tony put us on to the butty bus for food and Chris who owns it. We have had some fantastic food, the fish and chips are delicious the scampi is superb, the specials Chris does are fantastic. We have two newfoundland who Chris always makes sure they have a little treat, and my 2 year old little girls is spoilt with a lovely little meal followed by a delicious ice cream. I can't recommend Chris and the butty bus highly enough. Always a warm friendly welcome and great food

Not going to be the best food you'll ever taste but it is excellent to see someone catering to travellers needs. Couldn't make out opening hours but seems to cater in time for ferries and boat trips. We needed it when coming back at 7pm (and that time there is not much available !) and there he was serving hot drinks and food. Wonderful before the long drive north to Stornoway. Can't praise him enough.

We waited in the rain outside the bus for 30 minutes, during which time the cook managed to produce fish and chips to only 2 customers who had ordered before we arrived. There were 3 other couples waiting with us, and at no time did the cook attempt to communicate with anyone in the queue. It wasn’t until the lady at the head of the queue managed to attract the cook’s attention and asked him directly whether he has any fish left that he told her, not the rest of us, that he had only 3 pieces left - clearly not enough for everyone waiting. He made no attempt to apologise or even talk to the rest of us, just returned to his deep fat fryer. We left without any food, having wasted over half an hour.

I called into the butty bud for a bite to eat with a friend. Great conversation and banter whilst ordering. The food was served fresh, hot and quickly. A wonderful place to eat. I can’t visit Lewis & Harris without calling in at the butty bud, highly positioned at the Leverburgh ferry terminal.

Stopped for breakfast when we had come off the early morning ferry from Berneray. We were very hungry and the Butty Bus did not disappoint. Freshly cooked on order our various breakfast rolls were delicious and enormous. Thoroughly recommended

We were going to cross on the sound of Harris ferry to Berneray but wanted to get a take away from the Butty Bus to have on the ferry. We stood in front of the owner and he just ignored us. He was preparing other meals but he could have taken our order. I wanted to ask if we would have enough time to order before we went on the ferry - we had 40 minutes - but he just ignored us. We gave up waiting for him to acknowledge us after 15 minutes, despite trying to speak to him. We went to the Anchorage and they were very helpful. I would recommend that you go there for something to eat. I have never met anyone so rude in my life.

Stopped here on way from ferry and then again on the way back from a boat trip. Fish and chips were wholesome and generous with surprisingly efficient food paging system for a small business. Little bit of a wait but did not mind as clearly a one man band and freshly cooked. Bit of a queue as travellers waiting for the ferry also ordering drinks but lovely to watch the ferry cross the sound and look out for birds. 2nd time less of a queue and food out quickly.

My amazing Partner and I are doing a Western Isles trip. We were headed to Leverburgh and wanted to eat prior to getting the ferry. Traveling in October we knew lot's of places would be closed. We were amazed to find that the Butty bus came to the rescue. Really wide ranging menu, prices reflect genuine bargains! Our first fish supper in the Western Isles was the best fish supper on Earth. Thanks for being open off peak tourist time. It takes time to make good food.

Only go there if everywhere else is closed . Service is terrible … disorganised and owner abrupt and unfortunately can’t take even simple orders . Waited over 40 minutes for 2 bacon rolls and teas . He had forgotten to pass on the order to the chef in the back . Still took forever …. Food average . Offered us free ketchup sachets due to the error . Don’t go unless you have to . PS Don’t call women “Lovey”

Waiting for the ferry to Berneray. Had already had a great bacon and egg doubler from here for breakfast and it was perfect. Our ferry wasn't till late in the day so I ordered fish and chips for dinner. While waiting I noticed soup of the day was yom tum veg. Had a bowl while waiting.(rude not too). Off the scale brilliance. Home made, all authentic ingredients sourced from Thailand on owners annual winter trip. Fish and chips were great, very generous portion. Delicious. Yom Tum soup was incredible. Perhaps you'll be lucky when you visit and Tom Yum is soup of the day but I would suggest that with those skills all food here will be great. (PS. I have been here a couple of years ago and the food was great then too. Consistent quality. Good value. Thank you. Hope to eat at the Butty Bus again soon.

We received the most delicious breakfast butty after coming off the early morning ferry. A lovely cheery man greet us to take our order and managed all of our request, even the unusual. Thank you very much you have set us up for the day 😃😃

Stumbled across this place on a quiet Friday night down by the pier and has fish and chips. Good sized portions and well cooked. Paid by card and was given a buzzer so could wander whilst food was cooked.

I had a lovely haggis and black pudding roll with a nice coffee. Service was quick and the owner knew whether I had enough time to get it before the ferry loaded. The roll was perfect, as was the amazing views. Outside seating too to sit and enjoy the food. I would completely recommend (and he was open early too, 7.30am?)
