My Husband booked the Black Swan for our 20th Anniversary … he booked a few months in advance as it gets very busy and it's a Michelin Star Restaurant, we went on my day off (yesterday). We heard about this place from MasterChef and had...More

I could not match my words enough to the sheer brilliance and experience we enjoyed from the tasting menu. The most wonderful food experience I ever had.

What an absolute joy it was to sample the tasting menu at Tommy Banks's Black Swan at Oldstead! Simply stunning from the moment we walked through the door. We stayed overnight - our room was lovely with everything we needed to make our stay so...More

The title is only my opinion, I am in no way a food critic but I have been fortunate enough to eat at some nice 2 star places. Everything is just so for a restaurant, let alone a pub. You first notice the neatly trimmed...More

We visited recently for my partner's birthday and it was outstanding. Everything about the Black Swan is exceptional: the service, the food and the uniqueness of the dishes, the location, the atmosphere. Fully deserves all of the accolades that it gets.

We were very excited to go here after seeing it on Masterchef and drove four hours staying in a local pub as the rooms here were booked. Hopes were high as we sat on a beautiful evening in the garden sipping cocktails looking over a...More

We visited for dinner and a night's stay. The ingredients are largely from the fields which you can see from the car park as you arrive. The tasting menu was varied with the Langoustine, Dumpling and Root Vegetable Toast desert standing out. There is flair...More

Came for celebratory dinner. Spent almost 4 hours eating some of the most delightful local produce, cooked in ways which are almost impossible to comprehend, served by bright, knowledgable staff and drove home knowing that I had been somewhere very special indeed!! 13, yes 13...More

Firstly, although it seems restrictive to offer only a tasting menu, this is a specialist eatery, so no messing around with standard food. Each dish is a flavour explosion in the mouth - I started with thinking that the Pea tart was my favourite, then...More

Great service and wonderful food. Good pairings of different tastes. Advice on wines. Only one suggestion our room had all tables for couples and one large table for a group who were very noisy and took over the room. Couldn't hear each other perhaps have...More

Yes is the simple answer. They seem to be able to cater around all allergies and intolerances, but give them a bit of notice.

I didn't have any problems with the Tock system at all, but maybe it is a problem once they are full, the booking open six months in advance so every month they open booking for six months hence, hope this helps!

Michelin-starred Restaurant. 4 AA Rosette Restaurant. AA 5 Star Rooms. "This is an extraordinary place, a true one-off. Unbeatable."- Alastair Sawday's. The Black Swan is dynamic with a truly creative and innovative team developing new ideas from a constantly refreshed palate of produce which we grow and forage ourselves. Guests experience something unique - an intimate reflection of our character, our place and our lives which is in essence "Oldstead Now". Stylishly grounded in tradition and culture yet cut through with a modern earthy, exuberant creativity and the occasional glimpse of eccentricity.
