We were a big group of 13 for a stag meal with friends. All the food arrived in a timely manor and all the orders were correct. The place is clean and has a good atmosphere. We all had the 2 course special, it's very good value with a decent choice. I had onion bargie for starter and it was tasty, a little on the dry side but good texture and taste. My rice was perfectly cooked and the naan bread was up there with the best I've ever had. The curry was tasty and the rest of the group enjoyed theirs. Service on arrival very good, service during meal good. Overall, good value, decent meal, good service.

Went to this restaurant as part of a group for a friends birthday. We had booked a table as there were 10 of us and we were quickly shown to our table (there was a good crowd in so it was probably the right move to book a table especially as there were a lot of us). The staff were very helpful / friendly and our drinks order was quickly brought to the table. They gave us a reasonable amount of time to decide what we wanted to order which was just as well as there is a good selection to consider (no starters were ordered but the popadoms & pickle trays were soon brought to the table). When the main courses arrived the food looked great, it tasted just as good as it looked and the portions were generous. It was a great meal, it's a very nice restaurant with a good atmosphere / friendly staff and we will definitely be back

Rafi and all of the staff are always amazing and the food is the best around! No other Indians comes close. The staff can’t do enough for you and make you feel so welcome and will make the relevant changes required to make sure your meal is enjoyable. The atmosphere is electric and you feel right at home ❤️ Can’t recommend this place enough get yourself down for the best night you’ve had in ages !

Went to this restaurant because the notice's outside the restaurant stated different options for meals ie, midweek special or early evening But when trying to order any of the options was told they are not availabe and they have had no time to take the notices down. REALLY??? staff pleasent enough, but was relentlass for add on's do you want want want??poppadoms, starter, tikka £1 extra, any flavoured rice £1 extra etc just seemed to be how much money they could get out of you. Food very average and NOBODY interested in you as a customer.

Hello Joe, we're sorry you were disappointed with your evening with us. One of our boards outside needs to be updated as it has our previous 'Twilight Menu £13.95' deal which is going to be replaced with our 'Special Menu £9.95' deal as soon as we receive our replacement board. We have plenty new offers on all week you can take advantage off. Such as our new 'Special menu', 'Football scran','Date Night Deal' and also our 'Mid-Week Munch' deal! Follow our social media pages to stay updated on any offers or promotions we have on. Thank you!

We’ve been dining at spice empire and enjoying their food for as long as they’ve been open. Quality and service never fails. Our most recent visit was bank holiday Sunday and although the restaurant was extremely busy the waiting staff were attentive, food was plentiful and flavoursome and the beautiful decor just adds to the ambience. Can’t wait until we return. Thank you!

Food was really good, considering I’m not a huge fan of Indian I thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were excellent, price was amazing especially for the standard of food and restaurant is located down a lovely quirky street in the city centre. Will definitely visit again.

We dined here on a Monday evening, pre-booked to ensure we were in a "quiet" corner as two of our group have hearing difficulties. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was served very quickly and came to the table well presented and piping hot. I can recommend the Manchurian curry, kind of sweet with a little spicy kick, it was delicious as were the meals of the rest of our party. Poppadom, starter, main course sharing a rice and naan bread with a couple of drinks all for just over £20.00. Excellent quality, great value and wonderful customer service. Looking forward to going again next time we are in Sunderland.

Considering its location in the heart of the city, this really is a hidden gem. Upon entering the restaurant you're greeted with smiling faces and a well stocked bar for all ages and tastes. With romantic floral canopies, a statement VIP Neon flower booth and a beautiful hand painted mural, the whole vibe of the restaurant is pure class for the modern diner. The little gem and photo opportunity in the women's bathroom really compliments the direction of the restaurant and gives a unique discussion point for all who use it. Beautiful flavoursome food, generous portion sizes and enough variety to have your mouth watering from the first page, Spice Emipre truly is a restaurant to rival any in the area

The staff made sure me and my family had a great night and honestly could say that was the best seafood dish I’ve ever tasted. All safety measures put in place felt safe and cosy. Great restaurant!

First visit to Spice Empire, not disappointed absolutely lovely. Great cosy atmosphere and very friendly staff. One of the nicest Chicken Dansak meals I’ve had, my Husband had the Chefs Special and really impressed. Will certainly be returning.

I wish I lived in Sunderland so that this was on my doorstep. We visited on the final nighjt of a 10 night break to Scotland and the North East and we wanted an Indian meal. The Spice Empire was nly a 3 minute walk from our hotel (and there was another Indian on the floor above) It was nicely decorated and we got a table for two distanced from other diners. Friendly and efficient service. Poppodoms and a Cobra to start before my usual- Chicken Madras, boiled rice and a plain naan. My favourite Indian restaurant is The Curry Leaf in Staveley Derbyshire which is world class. Spice Empire is a certain contender- it was the best meal I have had for some time. Fantastric meal. It was so good that we will make the journey back up to Sunderland and a return to this restaurant is top of the agenda. Wel done- a real find.

We visited during the ‘Eat out to help out scheme’ and having seen how busy it was we were worried we’d be waiting a long time for any service but how wrong we were. Quick, efficient service with staff not phased at all but all the hungry bellies at their tables. Once we ordered we had a few queries which was no problem and our starters were out in no time. Portion sizes are big enough that you pretty much roll out and everything was hot all the way through. Price, minus the discount would not have been bad by any means. One of the best Indians I have had in a while. I left wanting another the following week.

Spice Empire is absolutely excellent. We've been regularly over the last few weeks and the food is always amazing and the staff couldn't be any more attentive. I'm fairly sure at this point we've tried pretty much the whole menu and it's all so delicious. Their health and hygiene measures are excellent, definitely Covid safe. All the tables are separated by screens and there are plenty of hand wash stations all around.

We regularly use this restaurant. However, due to the attitude of staff, poor quality of food and service we will not be visiting this restaurant again. When taking our order, one of the group mentioned having a nut allergy, bringing this to their attention. No action was received, and there was no comment from the member of staff. After four of the parties had poppadoms before their starter. After finishing these, the member of staff managed to move the tray of pickles, but the used side plates remained on the table throughout the meal. Our main meals arrived, and they were practically thrown onto the table as the waiter seemed to be in a hurry. The meals were very unsatisfactory and not up to the usual high standard of meals on our previous visits. After finishing our main, we decided that we would have coffee and desserts and waited at least fifteen minutes before the member of staff came to take our order. Then a member of staff came it inform us that we were only allocated an hour and a half for the use of the table with it been a Saturday night and that the table was booked at 6.30pm for other people. By the time we got ready to leave and pay the bill (nearly £140) it was 6.45 pm. There was no people near the bar waiting to be served. Due to this disappointing experience and lack of professionism by several members of staff, we will definitely not be back.

We visited after a being at the theatre, late at night but we were seated quickly. We were served by Danya for the full evening who was attentive by offering re-fills and checking on us after each dish was served. It was our first time visiting and the food was delicious, couldn’t recommend it more! Special shout out and a massive thank you to Danya for treating us so well even when it was a busy night with plenty of tables - what a fantastic service she provided, we’re very impressed and overheard other tables complimenting her too! We will definitely be back to try more from this menu and will be recommending your food to everyone! Thanks again!
