We met a friend at the Nailers' Arms for lunch shortly before Christmas. Booking a table is much easier now thanks to the online facility. Having booked, I phoned to request a particular table which was arranged by a friendly member of staff. We had enjoyed the carvery on a summer visit (and on numerous previous occasions) but I thought the standard was even better this time. A choice of 3 joints, beef, turkey and ham and an excellent selection of freshly cooked vegetables provided a very tasty lunch in a calm and pleasant atmosphere.
However busy they are at the Nailers' the staff are always cheery, helpful and efficient and you can anticipate an enjoyable experience. A good choice of drinks together with an excellent carvery at a reasonable price provides good value and is no doubt one of the reasons for many regular diners.

Lovely country pub with a small bar at the front and a large restaurant area at the rear. Bar has a really rustic feel to it but the restaurant had no atmosphere at all.
There was a carvery being served but also a main menu to choose from if you so wished. Carvery looked lovely. Mains from the menu were okay, just typical pub grub though, nothing special but nice all the same.
Staff were really attentive and the service was excellent.
We were hoping for a nice romantic meal out but we didn’t get that here. Felt a bit like a canteen, which was a shame.
I would suggest visiting here mid week for a carvery but it’s not the right setting for a special meal out

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed review of our eatery on Trip Advisor.
It was a pleasure to read your mixed feedback which all helps us to evaluate what we do. We underwent an extensive refurbishment of our restaurant the week before the pandemic hit the UK and our front bar was also refurbished during the lockdown period so we hope that you will like what we have done.
We look forward to extending you a very warm welcome at some point in the future!

My wife likes it here because they provide gluten free alternatives with the carvery. I can always find something else off the menu, faggots are great and the three bean chilli is good as well. Service is usually pretty efficient and friendly.

Absolute horrendous place! We came here as a party of 20 for a 21st birthday bash, we had a great time catching up with the family but it was completely ruined by the rude staff and disgusting food, amongst many other issues!
We were told to preorder food which we thought was weird but could see their point of view, but when we got there we had to wait 30 minutes for our food to come out, what was the point in the preorder? We was told not to preorder desert as there wasn’t any need, to be told there was a 20 minute wait. We didn’t think anything of it and ordered our deserts to be told we need to hurry up and vacate the table as the next guest have arrived to take our table. We hadn’t even had chance to finish desert, bring the cake out, sing happy birthday or pay the bill before a rude customer come over it our table and told us to hurry up because their kids were starving. Completely not our problem, they should have been seated elsewhere as ‘their table’ clearly wasn’t ready, and the staff should NOT have told them who we was and that we was at their table, they created a volatile situation which could have ended up in a big argument as we were all pretty p*ssed off by this point.
All evening the staff were caught rolling their eyes and talking about us and at one point we witnessed one of the waitresses call us ‘f*cking disgusting’. We complained to the manager and received no apology or compensation for it all.
On top of that there was many other issues with this place. The baby changing facility has a broken table meaning we had to change our little one on the floor of the restaurant. We was given dirty cutlery for our desert, one of the spoons looked like someone had just wiped their a*se with it.
The food was all over cooked, dry and burnt as if it had been left under a hot light for a couple of hours.
One of our guests were vegan and had the vegan carvery, she went to get some gravy to be told they’ll bring some out, she was left standing their for ages before being told they’ll bring it to the table, it was then another 15 minutes before it was bought over.
We complained about all this at the end and had no apology, not even a slight discount on the bill. It had ruined the evening, all because of silly, immature, rude employees! We were treated as if we wasn’t wanted there, made to feel uncomfortable all evening, it’s disgusting behaviour. We’re not ones to complain or cause a fuss much but this really peed us off!
We definitely won’t be returning and we won’t be recommending it to anyone.
Please avoid this place like the plague!!

Thank you for taking the time to share your very poor one star review of our eatery with the Trip Advisor community. First and foremost I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us and rest assured this is never something we take pleasure in hearing and apologise sincerely for our part.
Due to the number of reviews from your party I hope that you will forgive me for writing one detailed response which I hope will satisfy my formal reply to the content of all your reviews, which I will detail below:
Thank you for taking the time to share your very poor one star review of our eatery with the Trip Advisor community. First and foremost I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us and rest assured this is never something we take pleasure in hearing and apologise sincerely for our part.
Due to the number of reviews from your party I hope that you will forgive me for writing one detailed response which I hope will satisfy my formal reply to the content of all your reviews, which I will detail below:
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your review of our establishment with the Trip Advisor community, albeit a very poor one indeed.
I will post the same response to all the Trip Advisor reviews received in connection with the incident and sincerely hope that I manage to cover everything. If not then please do not hesitate to make contact with me direct at the pub and I will try my best to respond with my findings.
First and foremost I would like to sincerely apologise on behalf of my business and my team of Staff for the way your meal with us ended, this is never something any of us want to experience and is very upsetting for all concerned.
We have run The Nailers Arms for over twelve years now and can fortunately count on one hand the amount of incidents in our Restaurant that ended in this way. This is no excuse believe me and we are happy to learn from it, try to make amends which I have discussed for Miss D (shortened with respect to protect their identity) with her Mom and apologise when it is needed. We do care passionately about what we do and we naturally feel upset when any Customer leaves with a negative opinion of us.
We certainly miss managed your timings and can learn from this with larger parties. We now allow 2.5 hours for larger parties in our Restaurant. The Customers who approached you and asked you to leave should never have done so. They were certainly not asked to do this by a member of our team, they already knew where they were sitting so took it upon themselves to ask you to move on. We would never condone a Customer asking you personally to move as we certainly recognise how this can escalate an already uneasy situation.
I spoke at length on the telephone with both Mr D and then Mrs D on the evening of the day of your visit.
I then spoke at length with several members of our team that evening/the following day/following week to ascertain the facts as they saw them and exactly what they felt had happened. The main member of Staff who was assigned to looking after you also kindly wrote me a detailed report on the circumstances that sadly escalated throughout the afternoon of your visit.
On arrival my colleague said that you’d brought along banners and decorations which she helped you put up. Mrs D also commented during our phone call to say how lovely and helpful she found her to be upon arrival. Mrs D was also aware that the table was allocated to your party for two hours prior to booking and then again on arrival which she was happy with.
We should have had your meals brought out to you in a more timely manner, particularly when you had kindly taken the time to pre-order and you only had a period of two hours. We fully accept responsibility for this and once again apologise that this has contributed to fuel the afternoon.
When your main meals were brought out my colleague table checked both ends of the table to ensure everyone’s food was as it should be to which there were no concerns and everyone reported to her that they were happy, no negative feedback only positive comments were received by her.
Comments have since been made in reviews to say our food offering was disgusting, but Miss D kindly said herself that thankfully her food was very enjoyable. My colleague did say that it took a very long time indeed for you to all finish your mains and it is normally company procedure not to remove plates until everyone has finished. Mrs D also said during our telephone conversation that she was aware that some were still picking at their food but would have stopped if we’d removed the plates, which is not something we’d normally do but on this occasion it appears we should have asked rather than wait until everyone had completely finished which we take full responsibility for and apologise.
When my colleague was taking your dessert order she became aware of a pungent smell in the air which she ignored as she assumed it was just the baby that needed changing, however a lady within the party then asked a man “was that you?” to which the table erupted in response, which my colleague ignored and continued to move along the table to take the orders. She then mentioned the flatulence incident to her colleague at the opposite end of the bar, who was polishing cutlery at that time, which she willingly accepts was wrong and apologies for. It was this colleague whom she mentioned it to who passed comment to say that this was disgusting, whilst sadly using totally inappropriate language. She has also apologised profusely for this and has assured me that this will never happen again. All our team are fully aware that our customer’s behaviour, no matter how inappropriate, should never be discussed openly amongst Staff and any issue should be discreetly brought to the attention of a Supervisor if there is any cause for concern particularly when a customer’s behaviour is sometimes questionable. It was this same colleague who sadly heard a member of the party belch earlier in the afternoon and had also commented at this time to say that this was rude of him. I would not normally go into such detail but felt given the appalling reviews we also need to explain the events that lead to the escalated situation. My Staff were later shouted at across the Restaurant by your party which too added to the upsetting events of the day.
The comments within the review to say my colleague was laughing when you left have been explained by the fact that in all honesty she was in shock and under extreme stress relating to what had happened and said if she hadn’t of laughed at this time she would have been in floods of tears. Other colleagues and Customers too were checking to see if she was okay given the hostile situation that they were faced with. The whole party were crowding around the Bar which was very intimidating for our team as I’m sure you can appreciate. This also created a very disturbing scene for all other Customers to witness and be party to which is not something we take pleasure in and try our very best to avoid and diffuse.
Given the situation I think our Supervisor handled it to the very best of her ability with as much patience and professionalism as any other, I cannot see what anybody else would have done differently given the hostile environment which they found themselves in. There was a request for all the orders/drinks to be individually split for payment which was carried out in detail throughout the afternoon, then the bills were asked to be joined and then when it came to payment, the gentleman only wanted to pay for certain items therefore they were individually selected again, which caused a great deal of unnecessary confusion also resulting in multiple items being left unpaid. Our Supervisor did the correct thing in my view to not challenge this further as the situation was becoming out of control and she was trying her very best to diffuse it as best she could.
Sadly we did not have a working baby change unit on the day you visited as our new unit was on order and due to be fitted the following week. Our previous facility had sadly been broken by an adult Customer who broke it whilst under the influence but had kindly agreed to replace it at his own cost which we were grateful for. Therefore we apologise we did not have this facility during your visit but it was essential it was replaced with a safe and pressure tested new unit for everyone’s safety.
We were also fully aware that we were having an issue with sticky tables at the time of your visit. All our table tops were sanded during lockdown and we couldn’t source our regular varnish, therefore this resulted in us having to purchase an alternative varnish which then began to react with our table sanitiser spray when we reopened. Since your visit all our tables have been re-sanded and re-varnished using our normal product which we have now been able to purchase and I’m pleased to report our sticky table situation has now been eradicated.
All in all I am just so upset the situation has occurred at all, particularly on Miss D’s very special Birthday. In all honesty we can all make mistakes and when you throw multiple people/and a series of unfortunate events into the mix which we must all take some part responsibility for then a difficult situation can easily become a living nightmare. In our defence our team were told on the day by your party that our business would be totally ruined across social media and we would receive 19 awful reviews across Facebook/Trip Advisor and Trust Pilot. If a Customer wants to destroy you and they have the time, the will and the passion to do this then it is an easy thing to do with the internet today.
We love our business which we have worked tirelessly to build and if our time as custodians of our beautiful pub has come to an end based on your multiple negative reviews then so be it.
Thank you also for the removal of some of the Facebook reviews on the evening in question, we recognise that Miss D’s meal was essentially spoilt by the events which we would never intentionally want for any of our lovely Customers.
Finally … please once again accept our sincere apologies for the events and if Miss D would like to make contact at a time to suit her then I will make sure I’m there to look after her personally.
Kind regards

We came for a family meal to celebrate my 21st, with covid this year we were all looking forward to getting to see one another as we’d not been able to for nearly 2 years. However whilst we were there we were made to feel unwelcome, in the way and uncomfortable.
2 members felt starred at when they walked in. Whilst queuing for my carvery I overheard two waitresses talking to one another commenting on a different customer saying they were a “rude b*tch”. I pointed it out to my partner thinking that was a shocking thing to have been said but didn’t think much of it.
As our meal continued we noticed staff members rolling their eyes, watching us and commenting about us as they walked past us and behind the bar. As we ordered our desserts we were then told that there would be a 20 minute wait due to the large order. Once we had finished we were then told we needed to leave as the next party were waiting. This would have been understandable if we hadn’t have to wait for our meal - barring in mind we’d had to preorder the food to attend.
My mom had brought in a birthday cake for me which we’d not yet been given so began worrying that it had been forgotten and had to remind them we had it.
We finally got given the cake and we’re then rudely interrupted by the party following us telling us to hurry up as they had hungry kids waiting - but how would they know where we were without the staff telling them? We also had hungry children who were still eating at this point but unfortunately couldn’t finish.
After this a member of our party pointed out that they had over heard members of staff call our table “f**king disgusting” which is completely unacceptable.
When we raised all this with the manager/staff member, we didn’t receive an apology and we’re actually told they didn’t believe that member of staff would say that. When it was brought up with the person who had said it, they told us she hadn’t said anything but as we left was seen laughing by a member of our party.
I was really looking forward to getting to celebrate my 21st with all my family… instead I’ve been left with the horrible memory of a meal where we were left to feel like an inconvenience… what a way to ruin someone’s 21st!!

Visited here with friends (I wasn’t too keen on their choice of venue as last time I ate here I sent the meals back twice as they were cold) but I was pleasantly surprised in the difference 12 months makes. Service was excellent, the menu was excellent with the option of picking any two sides to go with your main choice and when the meals arrived they were hot and delicious. We all enjoyed our courses and we all

We came here as a family to enjoy a meal out on a saturday evening. We have been here many times before. Firstly, the pub is clean and covid safe and the staff are friendly and attentive. My sons both enjoyed their meal of chicken goujons, chips and beans and was a good portion. My partner had gammon and it was fine but it was a little greasy. I ordered a chicken and bacon salad main. It arrived and looked nice and what i thought was garlic bread on the top was infact chicken. The chicken was so overcooked and dry i couldnt eat it at all, the rest of the salad was ok. I did mention it to staff who refunded the meal after they saw that i never eat it and they did offer to replace it but i declined.
Its a shame as the food here is usually nice....maybe its just an off day.

Thank you for sharing your review on Trip Advisor.
First and foremost please accept our sincere apologies for your over cooked chicken. Although it should not of been overcooked I’m glad our Staff dealt with your complaint there and then to the best of their ability.
I’m glad you’ve previously enjoyed nice meals with us which we love to hear, it’s always nice to hear positive feedback too via Trip Advisor if we will hopefully see you again at some point in the future and your meals are as they should be.
Thank you for your custom in these difficult and very challenging times for our industry.

Visited Nailors Arms on 11 August and have been there many times and always enjoyed it but not this time. Our booking was for 7pm. On arrival the car park was rammed and had trouble parking. On entering the restaurant it was packed , people everywhere didn’t feel happy.
Sat down and waited for a time for someone to come over and asked for normal menu, to be told we would have to wait for an hour if we did not have the carvery. We said this wasn’t fair as the restaurant was too busy to serve us, as we had booked, people were being served outside as well, so we had to settle for the carvery. If there is not the capacity to serve everyone in a reasonable time surely extra bookings shouldn’t be taken. Also not enough staff on we were told three. Always loved this restaurant but unlikely to visit again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your Trip Advisor review albeit a very disappointing one.
First and foremost please accept my sincere apologies for your disappointing visit, this is something we ever wish to hear and will do everything within our power ideally at the point of dining if any complaint is brought to our attention.
You did indeed visit us on an very busy Tuesday when the weather was exceptionally hot which brought a large amount of additional Customers to both our front and rear patio/garden terraces many of which also wanted to take advantage of the Government's "Eat Out To Help Out Offer". Our restaurant was also fully booked with 68 diners at significantly reduced capacity as compared to pre-covid numbers which seated around 110 and the tables are more than adequately spaced out I'm sure you'll agree.
There was indeed a 45 minute to an hour wait for food cooked to order as the vast majority of Customers had chosen on this hot evening to eat from our menu rather than the Carvery which unfortunately is something we just cannot predict what Customer's choices will be. We ceased taking further orders for walk in Customer's who were sat outside in order for us to fulfil our booked Restaurant Diners albeit at it's peak with just under an hours wait which I can only apologise for. We were doing our very best under very difficult circumstances with both the Government's offer, the exceptionally hot/ humid climate and the CoVid secure guidelines.
At the start of the evening there were initially four members of Staff on duty in the kitchen and six members of Staff on duty front of house. Due to the number of walk in drinkers enjoying the terraces an additional two members of Staff, being myself and my Husband came to assist at around 7:20pm, which made twelve members of Staff on duty in total, therefore I'm not sure why you were told only three were working?
It is a real shame that you say you will be unlikely to visit us again as I read that you have been to us many times before and had always enjoyed your visits. I noticed from your profile that this is your very first Trip Advisor review. It's a shame that despite previous enjoyable visits that we did not here about these too?
I do sincerely hope that you will allow us another chance and visit us again in the future and that your visit is as it should be and once again please accept our apologies for your disappointing experience.
Kind regards
Shula Witherford

Went out for the day as a family, was on the way home when we stumbled upon this gem.
Very very busy in the main dining area could not get a table but we didn’t expect to because we didn’t book, was told that we could try get a spot in the bar.
HANDS DOWN one of the best Sunday dinners I’ve had. And that’s coming from a man who loves his Sunday dinners :)
Would advice booking a few weeks in advanced if you want a spot in the dining area on a Sunday!
Will definitely return!

Thank you for taking the time to register and set up a Trip Advisor account to share your experiences of all eateries you're fortunate enough to dine out at.
I'm very sorry that your disappointing experience at our eatery was the trigger for your efforts to join this internet forum and award us with a dreadful one star review.
My husband personally spoke to your partner on the telephone following her complaint of both of you having bones in our "Wye Valley Battered Cod" which our menu clearly quotes "this dish may contain bones". Please accept my sincere apologies for your disappointing meals, this is certainly something we do not take any pleasure in hearing.
Your partner was very abrupt with my Husband who took the time to call her personally to apologise and offer her a full refund, but she was sadly unwilling to accept his apology. She did also decline to acknowledge your Trip Advisor review yet also passed comment word for word on the fact our Carvery looked cold and overcooked, yet neither of you actually had the Carvery which I think is very unfair indeed, particularly during a global pandemic when all businesses are working so hard to comply with all the restrictions and desperate to just survive.
We wish you all the best for the future and once again apologise for your disappointing experience and negative opinion of our business.
Kind regards

I have been aware of your renowned carvery for a number of years now and today I finally paid you a visit which was well worth it. A lovely area so lucky to have it near me. On to my dining experience with you. I telephoned to reserve a table for carvery staff were more than helpful to speak to and booked me in smoothly. I arrived today and was welcomed and shown to our table. Young lad was very mature and went through everything with us, took out drinks order and invited us to carvery. At carvery you have a good choice of meats and vegetables to choose from. Me and my friend went all out and had the works. Just managed to get to the table as my plate was full to the top. I tucked in and it was warm and tasted fresh. The meat was very flavoursome and enjoyable. Me and my friend just about managed to get through it all. The deserts sounds very nice and tempting (especially the cheesecake) but was too full at end. We were looked after and staff come back to check if everything is alright with our meals. As a frequent diner this is key to enhancing the dining experience. I was also impressed with the layout and safety procedures you have put in to follow the guidelines during this Covid time and of course participating in the eat out to help out scheme. Danny

I visited this pub recently with my wife, after a period of absence. Following an initial stop at a hand sanitiser station we were welcomed on arrival and shown to a recently cleaned table. Contact details were asked for and given as per government guidelines. Table service was second to non, despite the relatively small bar area being complimented by a sizeable garden marquee (well lit and heated).
The small team of staff remained cheerful, chatting with customers as they cleared tables and checked on customers requiring service, presumably smiling behind their masks.
We can't comment on food quality from this visit but from what we could see it looked plentiful. There is a sizeable restaurant on site but due to Covid restrictions we couldn't visit it without a reservation.
For all those with concerns about venturing out into the modern world, don't worry, do it. Businesses like the Nailer's Arms are doing what they can to put customers first and allay our Covid fears. They need us. I just wish that we hadn't left it so long.

Just been for a lovely family meal at the Nailers. The pub has a lovely ambience even on a Monday night during Covid restrictions.
On that note, the restaurant felt very safe with plenty of hand sanitizer, all the staff wearing masks, tables well-spaced etc.
We were met with a warm greeting by a charming young lady called Nicola who turned out to be our waitress for the evening. She was very friendly and served us well all evening.
Starting with drinks, there was a small but good selection of cask ales available and the white wine was served cold and crisp as it ought to.
Onto the food. Two of our party went for the locally famous carvery and were not disappointed, with plates filled with fresh meat and vegetables till they nearly touched the ceiling! I had the faggots which were like cannonballs in size and weight but meaty and well-seasoned. Delicious! Needless to say, we left full and satisfied.
All in all, very good, great meal and value for money. Highly recommended if your in the vicinity.

I've been to the Nailers Arms many times with different friends and everyone always agrees it's the best carvery they have ever been to. HOWEVER since they reopened after lockdown I have been 4 times. The first 3 everyone was wearing masks unless you were seated at your table but I went with friends yesterday and no-one was wearing masks even when they were getting food from the carvery. Bromsgrove is in the top 50 for covid infections so surely masks should be worn when moving around the restaurant and especially when serving yourself to food. Under these circumstances I won't be going there again until the infection rates fall.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your review with the Trip Advisor community.
We fully appreciate that not everyone is comfortable with the relaxation of the rules earlier in the year.
We now respect everyone's individual choices if they choose to wear a mask or not. When the rules were relaxed further our Staff were also given the choice to wear one should they wish at this point in time. The majority of our team have now been double jabbed and still maintain our excellent hygiene standards and have their temperatures checked before every shift so we feel they are as safe as they can possibly be whilst we navigate our way through this ongoing difficult time.
We do kindly ask that all Customer's continue to use the hand sanitiser at the Carvery before handling the spoons to continue to help protect themselves and others.
We look forward to extending you a very warm welcome on your next visit when you are ready and you feel that it is personally safe for you to do so.
Kind regards
