Came here for lunch on Saturday. Went to the bar to order drinks and waitress asked where we were sitting and would come to us. She was so friendly! We found somewhere to sit outside as the weather was lovely and she came out quickly,...More

Firstly, I will say that on my previous visits to the George IV I have been pleased with the food and the service has been OK. However, following a long walk this morning my sister and I decided to pop in the George IV for...More

Dear Julie, it is rather unusual to be reviewed when a service has not been provided but, I will take the time to reply and clarify the position in relation to Bank Holiday Monday. While not all tables were occupied at the time you came...More

Today the food was not up to the standard of previous visits (admittedly quite some time ago). My Hunters Chicken was over cooked, my wife’s King Prawns were rather small and the pastry on my son-in-law’s pie was very hard!. On a good note the...More

Dear Sir, With reference to your review on our Trip Advisor page, please note that since taking over the George IV in Great Amwell 3 years ago we have never served Hunters Chicken, King Prawns or a pie with pastry. I believe you may have...More

I was taken here by my family for my birthday. Car parking was a little difficult. The eating area is quite small so reservations would be needed. Staff were lovely and really helpful. The food was excellent for all three courses. Not cheap but well...More

Delightful, typical, old pub building. Tastefully furnished on inside. Good selection of draft beer but somewhat limited to light, summer ales. Pleasant and friendly young staff and very obliging on taking group photos of customers upon request! Varied and interesting dinner menu but pricey. Quality...More

Dear Jeremy, Thank you for taking time to review the George IV. We do have some lighter (summer) ales given the time of year although during September they will be changing to ales that reflect the season. All dishes are freshly prepared on the premises,...More

This was chosen by two of our party of eight. The food was excellent with a large enough set menu to cater for all tastes. The price for the food was perfect and service was good. This was our first visit but we would definitely...More

We had a friend over from the USA and George IV was recommended to us. We were not disappointed, the food was fantastic, taste, presentation and service. We will definitely return.

Following on with reviews of recent pubs visited with a group of friends - having previously tried on a Monday when it’s closed - we walked in the pouring rain from Hertford - well worth getting wet for!! The beer was great and the food...More

Dear Clive, Thank you for the very positive review and we are pleased your party enjoyed their visit. To clarify the important point you raise with regard to the service charge, this is discretionary and is paid to the staff rather than retained by the...More

We went here to celebrate a birthday and found it to be superb. The food is expertly cooked and presented. It is actually a restaurant which is part of a pub but the food is far from being pub-like - it is certainly bordering on...More

Lovely pub off the beaten track. The food is excellent and the service is very good. Specials are always interesting. Parking can be a bit difficult but worth it.
